On smaller files, (say, below 50mb in size) my speed bursts to over 20mbps. I've approached 3 megabytes per second from some servers.

mind you I was torrenting something at 20 k/sec when this was done.

I pay $30-something for this DSL connection. Before I had moved my upload speed was twice as fast as the one I have now (80->40 MAX). Havent gotten around to calling the place to see exactly what service I have.

Well, as you can tell by the little bar at the bottom of the image, I'm using a connection provided by the college I'm going to be spending a couple of months at for the summer. Got this sucker for free. :3:

Don't know how restricted it is yet, though. :(

What sort of speed would you be getting from torrents and direct downloads with a line like that?

384 Kbps for downstream, and 64 kbps for upstream. I pay $25 for this (intially it is $75, but I share the burden with some housemates). Internet in my country is a very expensive commodities sadly. :(

What's funny is I download at well over 100Kb/sec fairly often over this connection.

(Currently on wireless in my lab.)

Edit: Just did it 10 seconds after my post to another server and got somewhat different results.

Much better than what I was expecting, but I have noticed an improvement in my download/upload rates lately, so I guess it shouldn't be all too surprising. Still, nowhere close to CHz's god-like speeds. :(
