I've tried listening to it a few times and it's never stuck. I suppose I'll give it another spin.

Well it is pretty different from the rest, but I thought it had a kinda 70s prog rock feel to it, so yeah.

Upon bringing up the copy I have on my hard-drive, my dislike can probably be attributed to the horrendous quality of the rip I have. I'm downloading a high-quality one right now.

In-before you hate it anyway. xD

So, for example, how do you like Carpathian Forest's Journey Through The Cold Moors Of Svarttjern ?

knkwzrd Nov 28, 2007 08:05 PM

I listened to First Spell again, with the same conclusion. I didn't dislike it as much as I used to, as the keyboards were a lot higher in the mix on this copy, but it still didn't do it for me. I think it was the vocals mostly. They were too... I don't know, clean-sounding?

Anyway, don't hate it, just doesn't do it for me.

guyinrubbersuit Nov 28, 2007 08:40 PM

I saw Enslaved on Monday and it was a great show. The turnout was pretty small but Arsis, the Faceless and Enslaved did very well. I got two shirts over there and had a great time. Enslaved played some older stuff but I'm not too familiar with the song names unfortunately.

Yeah, I actually wondered why it has such a good reputation among troo black metallers because of that but heh.

I guess you don't like Bak De Syv Fjell either then ?

Pretty much. Gehenna's vocals beat Bak De Syv Fjell's pretty handily, though, in my opinion. The guy in Bak De Syv Fjell just sounds bored.

My band was actually supposed to open this show when it came through So Cal. Due to complications, this wasn't possible. :/ Kinda sucks too, because I really wanted to play with Arsis and The Faceless. I'm not too huge a fan of Enslaved unfortunately.

Doesn't surprise me that there wasn't much of a turnout.

Thanks, downloading. But I'll listen to it later, since I'm leaving for an hopefully not too boring Christmas party at my boyfriend's folks. He got them a Wii, let's hope that makes things more fun a bit. :P

Holy pumpkin! Helloween! *_*
It took me a while after I got Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy flying around here for some months before I actually got through to actually listen to it, and then it really got me. King for a 1000 Years is really a mind boggling piece of music.
Now I got me the new album, Gambling with the Devil, which is catchy, fast, and incredibly fun.

Get the original Keeper albums - The Legacy is good, but the title track on Part 2 shits all over it. Best song they've ever done by miles.

Walls of Jericho >>>>>> all other Helloween.

It's the only Helloween album I can listen to all the way through.

Krelian Dec 29, 2007 05:13 PM

Quick question for Morrigan - What's going up with the EM? Is your hosting being problematic, or is some kind of upgrade rolling in?

guyinrubbersuit Dec 29, 2007 09:59 PM

Yeah I miss the Metal Archives. :(

I need to buy more Summoning.

Morrigan Dec 30, 2007 02:28 PM

Hosting problems, as always. I am getting very, very impatient about this myself. It's been nearly five fucking days now...
The retards made some sort of server/control panel upgrade (without ever notifying me, mind you - I checked my bulk folder and got NO email from them), and apparently "missed" my site somehow while doing this (nevermind that I'm doubtlessly their biggest fucking client). And I'm not even part of their new billing cycle. The whole thing is a complete mess and I can barely reach them for answers - in fact, what little news I've got came from an ex-senior employee there with whom I've kept contact (and who in turn contacted them), not even the company themselves. What the fuck, indeed.

So I started downloading some more music from the metal album blog and I found some pretty cool bands like Vinterland (black metal, reminds me a bit of newer Immortal), Imperial Crystalline Entombment (American black metal featuring members of Aurora Borealis and Divine Rapture. Pretty good stuff) and Profanum who play, at least their newer stuff, an interesting mix of classical and black metal but they eschew the guitars and bass leaving in the drums and harsh vocals. It's done pretty well actually.

So, I was washing dishes yesterday and listening to the metal channel on our digital cable, and I heard a song by Epicurean. I thought it was pretty fucking awesome, what with my predilection towards the more melodic forms of metal.

Then I thought "Goddammit, System of a Down isn't metal." Then they played some Byzantine, and all was fine.

Anyways, to the point: anyone have any Epicurean? I'll play you in backrubs.

guyinrubbersuit Mar 9, 2008 02:54 PM

Epicurean seems ok. Fairly typical power metal style.

Schadenfreude Mar 9, 2008 11:26 PM

Long time no see, metal thread. <3

Anyway, any recommendations in regards to good death metal bands? Preferably ones that don't blast endlessly from start to finish. I have enough of those. Maybe something like Funebre and/or Unleashed?

Wow, really? I can't seem to get into that one and I like a good portion of their discography. Their new album is pretty solid. Vouching for the Keeper albums as well, but took some time to get used to Kiske's voice. "I'm Alive" and "Save Us" (along with "We Damn the Night" from Dark Ride) are probably my favorite Helloween songs.

Anyone familiar with Wolf? Really good power/shred group from Sweden that writes pretty good songs. Normally with power metal, once is enough for most songs, but these are ones I have to keep hearing again.

Also loving Edguy...Hellfire Club is one of my favorite albums of all-time.

Nile, Spawn of Possession, Vital Remains, Deicide, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Decapitated, Deeds of Flesh, Gorguts, Sinister, Abysmal Dawn, Aborted, Severe Torture, Anata and Atheretic.

There are tons more but that's all I have.
