I'm just curious...was the MGS theme by Konami composers or Williams? Im just merely curious.

I definitely see a similarity in the themes, but...to call it a blatant ripoff...eh I wouldn't go that far. Perhaps an inspiration if anything.

I can't believe no one heard about this before. The theme was clearly lifted (or at least, "heavily inspired by") a Russian piece from the 1970s. It was plagiarized.

Whoops.

I remember when people first brought up the incident a while back. All the Kojima-addict fans were trying to justify how it wasn't plagiarism, but went to a crashing end usually with those discussions. Hell they went so far as to sending hate mail to those that said it was copying.

Sexninja May 12, 2008 06:53 AM

Potential spoilers dont read, infact ending confirmed

Spoiler:

MGS hype begins.

As of now few pages are out, if anyone has link to all scans post them.

Also where is hibino, he composed for entire series now his name is missing WTF?

Hideo kojima clears up how his interview was twisted by the western media and how the PS3 is not a letdown
__________________________________________________ _________________________

On the internet, there's stuff saying "Hideo Kojima" isn't satisfied with the PS3. I'd like to talk about that today. I just got back from Paris and did 15 interviews and everyone asked me about it, did I say that. The meaning of what I said has totally been changed, made totally different. Today, I'd like to talk about that. Why did it turn into that? When I'm doing an interview, I answer in Japanese, and I can't control how the writer will interpret that into English... What I say is then translated in English, and the writer then changes that into their own words and writes that. So, right there, the meaning of what I say changes a lot.

i hate to say this myself, but i am a Japanese man, so i try to be modest, or even more. i dont wish to brag about it to say "OH I AM THE MGS4 GUY (it's true, he doesn't)" or to say "THIS IS THE BEST ONE", just like how AMERICANS brag stuff like this [i was a bit mad on this part...but then again, it is true...right?] i do enjoy myself, but in my mind i still think insufficient of myself. that's why i interview in Japanese, and SAI (translator) translates my side of the inteviews very well in English. Because the WEST does not heavily carry the idea of MODESTY, i am getting criticized in the magazines/blogs. in conclusion, on my recent comment about my disappointment with MGS4, the comments derived from "MGS4, inside the biggest PS3 Game" to "Hideo disappointed with MGS4" it was translated compeltely translated wrong due to cultural differences. There are several comments that is like the disappointment articles, like the one that says "Hideo think PS3 can't not handle the GAME" or "the 50GB Blu-ray is simply not enough." it's funny how others think "did Hideo really say that?" then ask me, and my answer is obviously "NO" but then...i guess i am responsible for all of the articles...

from now one, i will say what i plan to say

for example, let's say this dveloper is making a new kind of a car. he claims that this can FLY. now there is no stop when you say "there is a car that can fly." When you claim that it can fly, the speculation grows from "oh so it can FLY?!!!" and the developer would set his goals higher. the specualtion is that if the car flies, then it should reach a MACH speed...but it doesnt stop there...it'd go beyond the specualtion of then "it sholuld go into space!" with all the excitement around, the developer would go deeply into making the car going into space...however, he'll come up to the public and say the car reaches the MACH speed, but it fails to go into the space. but he shouldnt give up, because for a car to even reach a mach speed and go into air is revolutionary. i wished to trasnfer my thoughts like such, but i guess it didnt work very well

the next time i interview in America, i will just say "MGS4 is the BEST, THE END" it is shameful for a japanese man to speak so blatantly, but if i dont, things like this [above] can happen...MGS4 isnt exactly MY proerty, so i dont have a TOTAL control over it and sometimes i get confused with it. some may be disappointed the way i say things, but i do release the game with confidence. in fact that what i have been doing, not just this ps3 game, but my previous ps2 titles. i always reached for the higher goal and i try to go for it. even in my company, im learning a lot about media training, but i wanted to do more than just that and here i am with the interview. but this [like the incidents above] wont stop me from doing moer interviews, i mean its not like interviews have ratings. i wont QUIT!

Kilroy May 12, 2008 09:38 AM

Well, I don't know how much of a spoiler that is.

Spoiler:
It could be interpeted in a couple of ways. Rest isn't always "death".
But since the second trailer we've seen Snake putting a gun in his mouth. How suprising is it that he actually shoots out his own brain?

Sexninja May 12, 2008 09:56 AM

Two things first the spoiler tags weren't working for some reason i tried them.

Second, what i said

'Potential spoilers dont read, infact ending confirmed'

And it was link of scan not something copypasted 'text' which could abruptly spoil the holy game plot.

I had warned.

Anyways suit yourself.

OmagnusPrime May 12, 2008 10:45 AM

I personally didn't read the text that followed, since you'd said "Spoilers, don't read, ending confirmed". There was a lot of text following, so I assumed that was what you were referring to. Next time make it clear what you mean, otherwise you are expecting people to read up to the point that they find out what is, and what isn't spoilers (which is stupid, yes).

Anyway, on topic: The UK has had its limited edition confirmed, and it's exclusive to Play.com.

Quote:

The Limited Edition will retail for GBP 79.99 and will include a six-inch-tall Old Snake action figure, a soundtrack CD and a "Making Of" Blu-ray featuring a pair of high-definition documentaries including lots of chatter from Kojima Productions staff, including Hideo himself. The package is exclusive to Play.com.

The US version of the Limited Edition also promises "collectible packaging with exclusive artwork by famed Kojima Productions illustrator Yoji Shinkawa", but a spokesperson for Konami wasn't able to immediately confirm that for the UK.

Meanwhile, those of you who pre-order MGS4 from GAME can expect to be rewarded with a DVD called Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2, featuring a seven-part documentary about the series origins and evolution - the same disc made available for US and Canadian pre-orders.

Actually, I felt bad for Kojima primarily in all this. He's not the composer, it's not like he was the one actively commiting the offense, here. I can understand that he's the face of the series, but people either defended or insulted the wrong man too often when this is concerned. He was clearly embarassed. People looked the wrong way, here.

Rotorblade May 12, 2008 02:21 PM

Makes me wonder if that gaming magazine gets many interviews with the MGS staff these days.

That was one problem that came out of all this. They made it seem like all the blame was on him to begin with, where he's just the head guy in it.

True, TAPPY probably had a bunch of arrangements and the theme that we all know and love sounded the best to Kojima at the time. ]

They are probably not on any good speaking terms especially after that incident.

£80 for the LE?!

That's $160! ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY US DOLLARS.

I'm not made of fucking money.

Christ and I thought the US LE was a little on the expensive side. :eye:

The UK OPM is now out and contains the first MGS4 review awarding the game a 10/10. Of course being a console exclusive mag pretty much renders the review worthless but there are some new details and screenshots with the latter being mostly of the South American region that looks beautiful.

I've got the entire review in readable hi-res scans which I could post later but here's 1 page resized that has no spoilers save for a new look at the mentioned South American location:

Sexninja May 12, 2008 04:08 PM

Post others man , that is nice quality.

And my question again, where is hibino, he composed for entire series now his name is missing?

Simo May 12, 2008 04:33 PM

Cropped and resized. Again the new shots just show off more of a location officially revealed and contain no story or cutscene spoilers but given the size of each image I had to spoiler code them:

Also GamesRadar has an interview up with the OPM UK reviewer who reviewed MGS4 to talk about some details including that it took him just over 29 hours to complete, not including cutscenes:
Metal Gear Solid 4: The first review is out!, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3 News | GamesRadar

Tagonist May 12, 2008 05:14 PM

29 hours not including cutscenes? Woah. Also not including codec conversations?
If so, then that is one long dong of an MGS. Or does that impression fool me...?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor May 12, 2008 05:15 PM

It more than likely does. When was the last time anything lived up to gameplay hours estimates?

It doesn't need to be long, of course. The last ones haven't been, and length hasn't negatively effected them, so.

Thanks for the scans, Simo. Jesus fuck you are awesome. <3

Freddy Krueger May 12, 2008 05:23 PM

Actually it was 29 hours with cutscenes which is still very long. MGS my first time took me 7-8 hours, MGS2 10-12, and MGS3 16-19 so if this is 29 then that's awesome. I want this to be one long epic adventure. I just got my PS3 and pre-orderd the game I can't wait!

Krelian May 12, 2008 05:51 PM

First MGS took me 11 hours.
MGS2 took me 15.
MGS3 19.

Another ten is cause for CELEBRATION.

Also, FUUUUUUCK YES the Altaïr costume is in the game. Along with other "bonuses"! I can't wait. :3

Clamjouster May 12, 2008 05:56 PM

wow why did it take you that long to beat MGS3, for all the games it was below 10 hours for me, specially with 3, it took me like 6 and I was playing on hard so I didn't just shoot everyone on sight. MGS2 was around 8 and the first was I think 10 flat or so.

Freddy Krueger May 12, 2008 06:00 PM

Well I probably explored a bit more then you or something, the thing about MGS games is it can really be short or long depending on how you play which is cool for people who like short and long games. BTW I forgot what is the Altaïr costume?

Clamjouster May 12, 2008 06:08 PM

the altair costume was shown as part of an april's fools prank, I guess I can provide a link to it without having to embeed the video in my post, here.

Might have been because I left the console paused for a few hours on occasion.

Freddy - Jade Raymond & Kojima collaborated for a kinda-cool but awkward-and-not-funny April fools joke with Snake dressed as Altaïr from Assassin's Creed. Turns out the costume's in the game, as indicated by the scan.

Freddy Krueger May 12, 2008 06:28 PM

Oh yeah I've seen the video before didn't know that was the name of the costume. That sounds cool though, is it supposed to be something you unlock?

Hantei May 12, 2008 09:04 PM

The SA location looks vast, heh, and from the screens it looks like much of the briefing occurs within the NOMAD. Oh and a 29 hour completion time? I was expecting maybe 20 hours at most, so that's just awesome news! I'll definitely be checking out everything, including all the codec convos. I'll be playing the game non-stop from start to finish (better stock up on some energy drinks) the day I pick it up. One more month!

My completion time for the previous titles clocked in at about the same as Freddy Krueger's. Heh, and that was because I took the time to actually call everyone on the codec/radio to pump every piece of info/story element about the individual (I think I recall getting, like 8 pages of images/info for each radio contact in MGS3).

Not a problem. Again I have the scans in a higher resolution that are readable that can be posted if necessary but I haven't even read the text in fear of spoilers though I hear there isn't really much revealed given the press is under an NDA until June 12th. One of my favorite new shots:

One tidbit from the review I got was that if you managed to buy every upgrade possible in the game for your weapons then you have to have Snake take periodic rests by laying down as not to get a hernia...

Can't really remember my playtimes for the series except that MGS3 took the longest but then it always did seem to be more epic and more vast than MGS1 & 2. So if its anything like MGS3's length then I'm happy. I mean when I played MGS3 last month I was still finding new tricks I never realised were possible and it's been almost 4 years since it was released!
