Good sir, I applaud you. It's nice to hear from JazzFlight that all's well so far. Man, this will be a long wait, but it will be worth it.

:crosses fingers:

Oh come on now, we've waited like 5+ years already for a true FF game since FFX. I think we can do another 30 days or so. ;)

Cobalt Katze Oct 3, 2006 02:13 AM

I certainly can :) Plenty of other amusing games keeping me occupied until then. Enjoy, though, to those that took the chance.

The voice acting is still incredible, and it looks great in widescreen. I'm addicted to the license system, and I try to steal from every enemy to harvest sellable items.

The main story is excellent, very mature and emotional.

you summed it all up right there.

I was surprised to hear that all the voices didn't annoy me one bit. Especially Vaan's, despite his looks his voice isn't anything what I've expected.
I never really researched the game or knew anything about the story so seeing the opening scenes really surprised me.

I only played for an hour but it was so damn addicting traveling through the large town. I can't wait to get deeper into the game. The new leveling system looks alot deeper than that of the sphere grid in FFX.

Weeklan Oct 3, 2006 07:44 AM

The intro video is soo damn choppy. >_> Like I cant even start the game.

What media do you guys use? I used Verbatim DVD-R.

EDIT:
OK that is weird now. After the intro and I started the game, the next intro (with faram and the battle with Dalmasca) plays just fine.

So.... does the intro vid run choppy for all of you guys then? (the video at the VERY beginning, before u even start the game)

Shenlon Oct 3, 2006 07:55 AM

thats the same brand I use and everything looks perfect. Make sure you burn it at the slowest speed.

Weeklan Oct 3, 2006 08:15 AM

Well I did burn it at 8x instead of the lowest speed possible for me (which was 4x) I guess I'll try that next. Although I don't believe it should matter, I usually always burn my games at 8x.

rpgcrazied Oct 3, 2006 08:43 AM

I can wait :) i still got BKO, Okami and Tales of the Abyss to play.

Then FF12 at teh end of the month, while some of you will already have it beat :P

They've actually added a widescreen option for this release?

once you start a new game it gives you the option for wide or full screen.
It also gives you other options like shake and flicker, although I have no Idea what those really do o_0

Nissay Oct 3, 2006 10:35 AM

Yeah the Widescreen option pwnz XD, and the voiceacting is INCREDIBLE...if i think about FF X... ( URGH!).

I love the battlesystem, it's less chaotic then let's say Valkyrie Profile 2....i hate button bashing,i like to THINK in a battle..but anywayz,i've put every rpg on hold for this one:p..

and thank Piracy for bringing this great gameXD

B4-Hunter Oct 3, 2006 12:44 PM

All right, I can forgo you for saying FFXII's battle system is great, which from what I've seen and played from the demo is great so far, but please don't think any lower of VP2's battle system ;____;. VP2 isn't pure button mashing when the enemy is in your line of sight/radius of attack --> it requires planning and proper timing to get the most of out that one sequence and maximize the use of your AP, which I think already requires some strategic thought right there. As well, it makes you think fast and on your feet of the shortest way to get to the leader.

Okau, finally got my preorder internationally booked for FFXII release. I will be playing it again in English just like B4-Hunter :)

25 Days to go *fingers crossed*

Oh just a question for those who pre-ordered internationally for the Limited Edition of FFXII + LE strategy guide. Do they give you that 20% discount? Coz when I mentioned about the bundle discount they said that doesn't apply for international orders :(

Freelance Oct 4, 2006 06:38 AM

FFX's voice acting isn't that bad. Sure, it's not perfect, but I've heard worse.

That said, if FFXII's acting is better than FFX, then it'd be even better. It's a good thing I got other games to play with until it comes out. Why does it have to come out on the very last day of the month? >_>

Freddy Krueger Oct 4, 2006 07:53 AM

Man this game is just awseome, it's really great to be playing a good FF game again. Last FF I really enjoyed was X and that was awhile ago, so far this game is amazing in all areas and I'm only 10 hours in.

FFXII's voice acting is better. I know this by watching the trailer. FFX was a laughing nightmare. lol. I'm burning the game right now I can't wait to finally play it in English.

Hey, don't diss FFX.

The execution may have been lacking, but at its core, the story of Spira is truly wonderful.

That being said...

FFX feels like an anime.
FFXII feels like Shakespeare (mixed with Star Wars).

Motsy Oct 4, 2006 11:23 AM

That's Matsuno for you. The man shits gold.

To tell you the truth, Yuna was the only person whom I thought had crappy voice acting. I'm not saying FFX has the best voice acting ever, just that I've played other games that are much worse than what FFX had.

The game looks incredible in Widescreen, the dub is also great. However even though I have now played a version that I understand (I d/led the import before), it still hasn't changed my mind about the gameplay, as I find it dull and non much interactivity. If I am not having fun within the first half hour of gameplay, than I call it bad design. I played it for about 2 hours and I am not having fun, and I doubt I need more party members or the glorified AI system to actually know how Party battle works, playing the demo showed me how it works, and it wasn't very fun.

And now knowing how the Licence board works and how to start mob hunts makes me cringe.

So if I get an equipment I can't wear it? I need to aquire enough points to gain the LICENCE I need to wear a damn armour? And we thought the DMV is bad enough.

To start a mob hunt I frst have to check the billboard in the bar, and THEN have to go search for the guy who put it up there to even start it? I'm all for realism, but this is just way too cumbersome and annoying, especially since the city too damn big. Oh and of course we then have to SEARCH for that damn thing, kill it, and go all the way back to FIND the same guy to get a couple of gil that probably won't be worth of my time.

And the fact this plays just FFXI only offline irks me even more. No gil for you unless you sell items and do mob hunts! Oh! And you can't learn magic! You have to BUY them! Even though you can't earn money cept through mob hunts!

VP2's skill learning system is bit annoying too, but at least my mages already know their magic to begin with, and most of the equipment can be found in dungeons too, and if I need to buy stuff, I can get money from monsters! How about that? And I was having fun with that game within 20 mins of its gameplay time! (Not counting scenes when I say that)

Some changes made in FF12 are good, like no more random battles and such, and its production values are excellant, graphics, Voices, music, art design etc, but in a gameplay standpoint, I'm afraid its just isn't for me.

So glad I didn't buy the overpriced import like I always do with FF...

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Oct 4, 2006 05:55 PM

Lemme get this straight.

You are not enjoying it after two hours, and you said if it doesn't grab you by the 30 minute mark you think it's a bad design...so why are you still playing it?

That does sound like the best analogy. Truth be told, most of the stories told in past FF games were pretty silly, when you break it down. Traveling to the moon on a giant whale to fight an evil alien? A wimp who thought he was a badass due to a case of mistaken identity and implanted cells from an evil entity from space (I'll refrain from calling Jenova an alien, even though that's likely what she was)? Another evil alien who seeks to turn into a giant tree to rule the world?

So yeah, past FF stories were pretty standard anime-fare. But what made the series work was the execution of those stories, along with a strong cast of characters. That said, I always found FF Tactics to have the most believable story, good enough to use in novels or movies. Themes of political corruption, betrayals, nobles vs commoners, and good old devil worship made for the darkest story of any FF title, even though I personally found the bit involving
Spoiler:
Ramza's sister as the vessel for St Ajora
too convienient to the point of absurdity.

And that is the one thing I'm anticipating the most for FFXII. I'm not just hoping for RPG of the year, I'm hoping for an evolution of RPG storytelling, ditching the age-old cliches of aliens in space, love triangles, and even (yes, even) silver-haired villains, and delivering a story that even non-gamers would find interesting.

I'm surprised not too many people (at least in this board) have taken up and downloaded the game already. That said, I'm downloading it too, but I won't play it unless I crack. I definetely won't be playing it this week, since I'm adjusting to my new job, and next week isn't too likely either, since I have a final. But the week after that is possible, if I can't stand waiting a mere seven days from there.
