Because Nintendo decided to screw us, I've decided to not buy a Wii until I can buy component cables alongside it in stores. I'm not sure if that'll be next month or not, but I'm not going to pay for it on launch day if I'm not going to be able to play it, since anything on composite is damn near unplayable on an HDTV.

Bravo, Nintendo, Bravo.

It is still said that Component cables will be in stock at Gamestop's and Best Buys. My roomie went to finish trading in games to cover his Wii purchase, and I had him ask if there were component cables available on launch day. They said yes. Don't count out the retail component purchase quite yet.

JasonTerminator Nov 16, 2006 01:42 AM

First party cables?

The DDD sale ends on Friday, so I don't want to take a chance and not get my orders in if I decide to not buy a Wii. Honestly, the only reason I want one is Zelda. I've waited 3 years, so I think I can wait another few months and avoid all this hassle (Plus, Nintendo might give me an idea of when a black Wii will be out.)

The final surprise was just a mockup. This is confirmed by Reggie in an interview (he said there won't be any more secrets unless not even he knows them).

Looks like I'm holding off on my Wii till I can get my hands on some component cables....damnit =(

majario Nov 16, 2006 12:25 PM

Well, I just got an email from amazon.com saying that they will start to take orders for the Wii right on launch day. I don't think they will doing the super expensive bundle thing like EB.

Hotobu Nov 16, 2006 05:43 PM

Well I guess Nintendo finally started to use different connections for their cables. They'd been using the same connection for S Video for the SNES, N64 and Gamecube. I figured they'd do the same for the Wii and let us use Gamecube component cables on it.

On another note someone mentioned above about a black Wii, and I remember seeing pictures of those a while back. Does anyone have any word on when that one will be out?

FatsDomino Nov 16, 2006 07:45 PM

Probably sometime next year when sales are slower than normal.

Omnislash124 Nov 17, 2006 11:51 AM

So, say by chance we don't get one at launch, when do you think we can expect subsequent shipments? Because there is a good possibility I won't be able to get one at launch.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Nov 17, 2006 12:26 PM

Shipments this close to the Holiday shopping season will probably come at least once every two weeks.

Lukage Nov 17, 2006 01:00 PM

This is my last time here before I get the system. Work. Packing. Wii'ing. Enjoy it, folks!

majario Nov 17, 2006 03:30 PM

I just paid off my Wii and all of the accessories along with Zelda. The only thing left to do now is to wait until Sunday. Good luck all and make Wii #1.:)

rpgcrazied Nov 18, 2006 07:32 PM

I want one.. but it'll be near Metroid Prime's 3 and the new Mario Galaxy launch.

Cant wait to hear some of you guys thoughts of the system

Darkcomet72 Nov 18, 2006 07:43 PM

Well that was depressing.

Went to Wal-mart, got a ticket, came home. Will go back midnight.

It's too easy.

Grubdog Nov 18, 2006 07:49 PM

Anti-climactic. I'd just keep standing there anyway. =D

What ticket number were you BTW?

Darkcomet72 Nov 18, 2006 08:09 PM

I was number 16. Pretty high, but they weren't giving out tickets until an hour before I arrived. I called in the morning, there was no line of any sort, and they told us to call back at 5PM.

Boring. Standing there would've also been boring, since everyone else who got a ticket also left, or lol explore.

Now I'm wishing I preorded.

Double Post:
Well I am now the proud owner of the Nintendo Wii! Was extremely surprised to hear the Walmart I went to only received 23 (WTF) consoles. I got Zelda, Excite Truck, and Banana Blitz, and Metal Slug Anthology has shot to the top of my priority list.

::gone forever::

nazpyro Nov 19, 2006 01:55 AM

Ohh... GFF is not dead. Anyway, obligatory post that I GOT MY WII. BEST DAY EVER!

Also got extra Wii-mote, nunchuck, TP, MONKEYBALLS, DRAGONBALLZ, and BIG DAMN TRUCKS: $535.44 total.

Obligatory photos, blog entry, and video footage coming up within the next wiik. Quite possibly the best video I've ever been involved with. :p

Officially done with the puns now.

Soldier Nov 19, 2006 02:12 AM

I'd like to hear how the Virtual Console works when you got the time. Are there any extras included with each game, or is it pretty much bare bones? Also, I heard that for 16:9 TVs, the game image is stretched and you have to manually fix it yourself.

From what I've seen: no extras, but you do get a manual for the games that you can read on the Wii. And yes, none of the games are designed or formatted for widescreen so you'll have to switch it to 4:3 yourself.

Soldier Nov 19, 2006 03:19 AM

Well, they better do something to make the fees more appealing then, because it looks like emulation is already starting on the PS3. No one's going to shell out 5 bucks for Donkey Kong if they can play the same game on another system. Well, assuming you have both systems anyway.

Infernal Monkey Nov 19, 2006 03:58 AM

I dunno if anyone anywhere would actually want to play the incomplete NES version of Donkey Kong on anything anytime. It's like going to the cinema and having the place burn down before you can see the end of the movie. Except there's more fire involved. And more hammers. FIRE HAMMERS? No, this is not the case!

The B0mb Nov 19, 2006 04:12 AM

Well just a quick post. I DID GET ONE! I waited outside Wal-mart for 12 hours. They were only getting 20.. and I was the 20th person. Lol. Good Stuff. I got the Wii, another Wii mote(they didn't have another nunchuck). I got Raymen and had to go to another wal-mart..but it was worth it for ZELDA! hah.. i'll give more detail tomarrow. I'm playing this until then.

Krelian Nov 19, 2006 06:07 AM

Paid another £30 on my Wii yesterday... Which means I have £70 left.

Is it actually at all likely that they've oversold pre-orders in the UK? I have a feeling not too many people in Canterbury are going to be ecstatically excited over a) buying a Nintendo system, b) purchasing it on launch day or c) buying it in HMV, so I get the feeling I won't need to appear at nine in the morning to pick it up.

*hope*

cubed Nov 19, 2006 09:13 AM

I never thought the Wii was going to be so popular even in holes like where I live ;_; My friend who preordered it went to the Zellers to pick up his copy and see if he can get one for me as I didn't preorder it. People without preorders were camping there when he came in.. No Wii for me for now :(

Nintendonomicon Nov 19, 2006 09:39 AM

I GOT ONE TOO!!! I camped in the freezing cold for it, buy damn! It was worth it. Stupid Walmart didn't have its Zelda shipment yet, so I got Rayman and Red Steel.

TheReverend Nov 19, 2006 10:00 AM

Well, there is a Wii sitting in front of me. All I have to say is thank God Zelda doesn't look like ass like everyone was saying it does. Composite cables are working pretty good on this 32" HDTV. I'm heading to Best Buy this morning to see if they have any component cables.

Had quite the time last night though. My roomie Jared who preordered at Gamestop preordered zelda and a few other games. So we go into the gamestop, and they had 3 copies of Zelda and 16 Wiis.... How the hell does that happen? So we ran over to Walmart, and grab the 2nd to last copy of Zelda out of 28. Lucky...

Well, I'm off to BB. Wish me luck!
