I have a bit of a question, can't quite figure this one out.

Let's say I'm raising a Magnezone. Apparently Mirror Coat is a move it can learn upon its own, but only at level 1. Naturally, you cannot get a Level 1 Magnezone; it's just not gonna happen without major hacking. The trouble is that a level 1 Magnemite will not learn Mirror Coat.

I tried the Heart Scale guy, but since Magnezone never had Mirror Coat in the first place, it couldn't be remembered.

I'm genuinely stumped by this. It seems like there should be a simple answer but I'm not seeing it. Does anyone know how to get these Level 1 moves onto evolved Pokemon?

Kairyu Jul 26, 2007 06:44 PM

Ok, I've decided to move the tournament date to Sunday. Hopefully this will give everyone sufficient time to prepare their teams (I only got two private messages on team selections so far ;_;.)

Oh and Crash. I do plan on making more tournaments if this one turns out to be a success. I may even consider prizes.
And yes, about once a month is what I'm aiming for!

Oh! Sorry for the confusion. The battle is not free-style, I don't have enough information on what level everyone is at to make that kind of decision. So I'm sticking with the lv.100 preset.

Hm, you can relearn moves a pokemon never knew in the first place. This is how I got my Dragonite to know Fire Punch (Though it's only available when it is in its final evolution.)
According to serebii's pokedex entry you should be able to go to the heartscale guy to learn the move. Unless that entry is a massive typo.

I'm not trying to insult you or anything but did you look through the entire list of relearnable moves available to magenzone? My only other conclusion is that you need it to learn the move as a magneton in pokemon emerald. I can't say that for sure becuase I didn't check.

Edit:
wait a minute, is the pokemon you're raising a magnezone right now? It needs to be at that evolutionary form in order to learn it. Magneton and Magnemite simply cannot learn Mirror Coat ;).

Chaotic Jul 26, 2007 07:01 PM

Argh. Level 100s? I don't have a single one. T_T

Highest level is 86.

T_T

Forget trying to get the Modest Riolu Egg. It's time to even out my team. <_< Hopefully to the 80s or so. That would be my general average.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jul 26, 2007 07:08 PM

No, I'm not raising a Magnezone. I am raising something else (I'm secretive!) and was in the same situation though. I found myself desiring a move that apparently has to remembered.

I'll try the Heart Scale when it's fully evolved and see if your hypothesis holds true.

Chaotic Jul 26, 2007 07:14 PM

But either way, I'm sure that once it's a Magnezone, it would be able to learn it through the Heart Scale dude.

I leveled my Arcanine past the time it was supposed to learn ExtremeSpeed (Level 39). When I evolved it at Level 42, I ran to the the Heart Scale dude, and coo coo ca-chu, he was able to learn ExtremeSpeed.

So you should be able to.

Slash Jul 26, 2007 07:36 PM

Chaotic, don't worry about the lev 100 -- when you do wifi for a battle you can choose Level 100 battle or level 50 battle.

Those two AUTOMATICALLY boost the levs to lev 100

Chaotic Jul 26, 2007 07:54 PM

Oh. T_T

Well damn, then.

^-^ Jul 26, 2007 08:55 PM

I still need to pm Kairyu my team.

Chaotic Jul 26, 2007 09:32 PM

Just remember, if anyone needs any last minute TMs. I have all of them available in massive bulk. So don't hesitate to PM me if anyone needs any for the tournament.

Thanks for the help but I think I manage... hopefully.

Level 50 Battle doesn't boost your party to level 100. :p

Just a reminder,
The new tournament date is Sunday, July 29!

So you have until noon Sunday to send me your team roster and movesets.

My messages seem to be getting lost in the shuffle real fast. I should start the tournament thread tomorrow anyway (don't worry I won't post any vital information yet.)

And for those that did submit a team to me you can still tweak them if you want just remember to update me when you do! If I hear nothing from you by Sunday I will assume that is your team and movesets. Changing moves or Pokemon during the tournament will probably get you booted from the tournament, just so you know.

edit:
haha I just realized. It will also help to add your pokemon D/P friend code along with your roster information.

Chaotic Jul 27, 2007 01:19 AM

Whoo. I have some evening out to do with my team. I just got me a tank and I gotta figure out how to work him in with a bunch of sweepers... Because that's pretty much what my whole team was before this tournament.

Hopefully this weekend I could get all my 70s up to at least 80. T_T This is gonna take a while.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jul 27, 2007 01:28 AM

I still think it's a bit wonky that you get to see teams and movesets ahead of time, Kairyu. Individually, the benefit is limited, but as a conglomerate, you might observe that a lot of people are using Tanks, so you'll know that packing a Hazer will be statistically advantageous.

I should just hand you a list of nine Pokemon. From that list, I'd select my team to use throughout - and they'd all be confirmed legal - and the rest would just be left out.

Ah, but which six is Crash bringing? What's his team strategy? Will he bring the Special Sweeper or the Healer? You don't really know!

I like it better that way, honestly. Keeps it all fair.

Slash Jul 27, 2007 01:30 AM

Yeah...I think if everyone knew what pokemon were being used would take all the fun out of it...hell...even if we showed 6 or 9 and picked three, that'd add an interesting element to the game.

Chaotic Jul 27, 2007 01:33 AM

I'd agree to that. I have a couple of Pokemon I'd want to shuffle between in battles.

But just to be certain, 3v3 or 6v6?

Hmm that's why I was toying with the idea of using bench warmers. At least that way you'll always keep everyone guessing :).

I'll go head and modify the rules accordingly (for a while I thought you guys didn't care for that idea since I got no comments about it!)

Rules *updated July 26*:

- Entry info: To enter, private message the tournament coordinator (Kairyu) the 9 pokemon you wish to use for the tournament. Also, be sure to include movesets from your roster. This is to ensure everyone will keep to their pokemon and current movesets.

- 6 on 6 OR 3 on 3 single battle @ lv.100 <-preset

- Matches will be done in best two out of three. Each win equals a point to your score. A loss is of course zero points.

- In between each battle you may switch out your team and/or your hold items. Try not to take too long.

- The following pokemon are banned from this tournament:
Mewtwo
Mew
Wobbuffet
Lugia
Ho-Oh
Wynaut
Latias
Latios
Kyogre
Groudon
Rayquaza
Deoxys (all forms)
Dialga
Palkia
Giratina
Darkrai
Arceus

- Sleep Clause: At any one time only one pokemon on your opponent's team can be put to sleep by you.

- Enigma Berry Clause: Do not use that hold item!

I leave that up to the battlers. I suspect there will be times where one of the players can't stick around for a full 6 on 6 match for whatever reason. So I'm allowing the players to shorten the matches, as long as both players agree.

^-^ Jul 27, 2007 11:22 AM

But... ugh okay.

RABicle Jul 27, 2007 12:26 PM

Why is Lati@s banned? It's not banned in Standard Cup/Battle Tower. Just ban Soul Dew.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jul 27, 2007 06:14 PM

Other than the Enigma Berry, will there be any other item clauses?

I looked at both pokemon and I can see why some would just ban them while others would allow them in tournaments by banning Soul Dew.
It seems like the consensus on this duo is mostly "no, they're too strong." Probably because of the addition of Draco Meteor and their unique type advantage, they're even harder to take down. Even without their Soul Dew. Soooo, unless I should consider otherwise I think I should leave them on the ban list for this tournament.

I doubt it, unless someone can put up a good argument on why I should ban more items.

Edit:
As promised, I went ahead and made that tournament thread: http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/sh...974#post479974

If you can, be a good sport and look for any horrible typos or things that need to be added.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jul 27, 2007 09:41 PM

Might wanna include the part about submitting teams of 9 instead of 6, then choosing which 6 before battle.

But it's mentioned in the rules. It's pretty much a given that we can only use up to 6 of the 9 every battle =o.

Also the tournament thread title could use a better name :gonk:.
You're welcome to change it if you can think of something better.

^-^ Jul 28, 2007 05:23 PM

PM Sent, what time does this start?

Kairyu Jul 28, 2007 05:28 PM

Check the tournament thread dude it's all there: http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/sh...ad.php?t=23788

If everyone submits their rosters by tomorrow I'll have the first backet setup by Sunday. You will have at least 3 days to find your target and win :3:.
Again, check the tourney thread for more details.

Metal Sphere Jul 28, 2007 06:38 PM

Hopefully someone can help me out here, especially after I saw that advanced moveset discussion a while back. I was thinking about putting one of my favorite pokemon on my team, Kingdra, but I've never actually used it in battle before (mainly because of the whole trading requirement). This isn't for serious battling mind you, just want something that can cream the elite four and get the monsters I like in the hall of fame.

Brine
Dragon Pulse
Ice Beam
Toxic

Anything I should watch out for/glaring holes in this moveset? Ah forgot to mention, I found out these moves for it from this site if you're curious.
