I missed this time but just in case it matters later: is Beefi wielding the mace or does he just possess it?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 14, 2011 04:38 AM

Given we're only really going to be fighting undead from here on in and that all I'm losing is Headsman's chop by doing so, I think it's safe to say that Beefi is wielding the mace, although he's currently mainly brandishing it in a threatening fashion.

Those skeletons are minions, right?

The unmovable stubborn Mar 16, 2011 10:54 PM

So they are but I thought it would be fun to let people blow encounters and dailies on them before answering. Really guys, did you think there would be ten of them otherwise?

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Mar 17, 2011 12:06 AM

I was under the impression that the power was referring to ally's of the person losing the surge. So for future reference neither the caster nor the target can be healed? Not too big a deal but it does effect my planning on how and when to use the power.

Seems like a lot of these runepriest abilities are a rules lawyery pain in the ass.

The unmovable stubborn Mar 17, 2011 12:50 AM

Yeah runepriests are pretty much the most convoluted, highest-skill-ceiling class in the game. I was always kind of surprised you went for it (albeit partially).

So, like, theoretically, do you guys think the Furious Five would rather have an RV or a helicopter. In theory.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 17, 2011 05:33 AM

Clearly a helicopter since that allows for at least one of us to have a comically irrational fear of flying.

I was thinking about using the Mow Down card we've got to try and kill all the minions in one go but they're a bit too spaced out (And half of them are already dead) so I'll save that for next time.

Edit: I'm assuming that the standard "Adventuring pack" contains a pipe and tobacco, right? You can't very well look smug and propose a poetry contest without a pipe in your mouth.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Mar 17, 2011 10:24 AM

At the time it seemed like the perfect marriage of healing and smashing people in the face. OH well I guess it's like learning to drive a standard transmission first. Kind of ugly but after you've got it down you can drive anything.

On that note RV decked out to jump hella far.

The unmovable stubborn Mar 17, 2011 01:40 PM

Right, so I've never adjudicated a D&D poetry slam before but I think we'll go with a two-part combined Insight/X check, where X is whatever skill is most relevant to your poem's topic. Actually writing a poem instead of just describing how great your poem is will grant bonuses.

Never before have I lamented the loss of Perform (Oratory). I am really looking forward to Slim's Intimidating Poem though.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 17, 2011 04:38 PM

Now I've gone and suggested it, I better start thinking up a decent poem I suppose.

Additional Spam:
Ahahahahahaha, I knew I'd roll a 1. :(

Since the story is mainly about warriors, can I add my athletics to that?

wvlfpvp Mar 17, 2011 06:20 PM

I'm going to be away from a steady connection for a week, so if this devolves into a battle, someone take over. Just use purple and don't speak, unless you've figured out my ultra secret method to dialogue for my Windsoul manifestation.

That would make sense, I told you guys to add a second check based on the topic of your poem. How many of you have done that? Oh, none? Ok.

"Yeah, I—"

"Give me your sheet, Colin."

"What? Why do you need—"

"Give it."

(scribble, scribble)

"Here."

"You erased my Intelligence score and replaced it with a picture of a dick."

"Yes."

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 18, 2011 02:26 PM

Oh, I thought you meant to add our two scores together and add a single check. I'll roll again (Another 1 coming like what?).

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Mar 18, 2011 05:48 PM

Dammit Pang I'm a runepreist not a minstrel.

Also I also got what shin did from the rules laid out.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 21, 2011 03:30 PM

If we go through too many more fights without Beefi getting injured, the mace is going to leave I fear. Next time I'll specify that the losers of the contest have to explode into harmless chunks at the end of it.

I see Howard as a more long-term companion than St Cuthbert anyway, although the more NPCs we get on board the better at this point.

Animechanic Mar 21, 2011 05:25 PM

Unless the mace is somehow bound to Beefi, you could hand it off to Slim if he wanted it. The mace would probably approve of his smashing-based approach to problem solving.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Mar 23, 2011 01:31 PM

Well I think it'll come round a bit should Beefi actually do some skeleton smashing, he's pretty good at it once he gets going.

Of course I'm going to go out of my way to make sure he doesn't ever fight anything but that's half the fun of the game innit?

Apparently nobody cares about rituals (surprise surprise), so I'll just skip the details there!

Not to alarm anybody, this certainly isn't anything I'm going to change in the immediate future* — but is anybody, say, really attached to D&D as a rules system? I'm not looking to change the general campaign feel or anything, but there are plenty of other systems we could use for what is basically an everything-goes fantasy sandbox — systems with combat that's a little less, uh, fiddly and slow.

Ok that and Hawk has basically succeeded me as Remedial RPG Instructor and maybe we could move on to something a little less mainstream? Sperg sperg

*Tomb of Horrors is kind of a long-ass adventure you may have noticed.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Mar 24, 2011 12:41 AM

RIFTS RIFTS RIFTS!!! It already has sentient dog people as a core race you so can have corgi's right out of the box!

But seriously I'm down with anything as long as I can play a midgety psychotic.

No. Hard Pass. Mar 24, 2011 03:17 AM

I'm happy to go to an alternate system. RIFTS, RuneQuest, whatever.

The unmovable stubborn Mar 28, 2011 05:44 AM

Right, since Slim went back for them here's the rituals such as they are

I know I said we wouldn't be making the system changeover anytime soon, but I found a ruleset that fits our needs so well it'd be a shame to delay any longer. I'll fill you in on rules details later, but for now here are your updated character sheets:

I stopped paying attention and everybody turned into fairies. Okay...I can dig it.

The unmovable stubborn Apr 1, 2011 02:12 AM

Oh right I need to convert over all the inactive characters too

You, sir, have far too much time on your hands. I've got a bunch of reading and assignment-writing for you to do. It's due Monday. I'll send you a link with more details in the morning.

I'm not quite sure how to feel about the fact that this rules system even exists. I'm halfway between perplexed, horrified, and very, very sad with the state of the world.

No. Hard Pass. Apr 1, 2011 04:52 AM

This is the best D&D game EVER.
