*sighs* I didn't go to the tournament that GameStop held because as strange as this might sound, I know too many people online that lives in RI that I don't want to bump into them at one of the store (for personal reason). >_>
Anyway, I like to take part in the tournament. I don't know if I would last long though. I want to see how my EV trained Pachirisu does in battle! lol >_> I prefer to have the tournament via DS as I don't have PBR yet. (A friend might be selling her copy to me. No way I'm spending $50 on a budget game. */cheap bastard*) |
Big..its not even worth the 50
|
That's what I was thinking. After experiencing such a let down with Collosseum...

But even before we figure out anything about what the level ranges are, what kind of battles are we doing? Singles? Doubles? |
I would prefer singles. The only experience I have with doubles is in PBR, and that's hardly good practice.
|
You could just ask one of us to battle if you need any practice... Besides Crisis on PBR, I haven't faced anyone here at all.
|
I'm always waiting for someone to play. Even though tonight's not a good time for me.

Ugh, if there's anything that bothers me about this game, it's the damn PokeRadar. T_T
I've been trying to see if I could get some decent shiny out of it or something. Some people have gone on these massive chains with them, and I could barely break nine. THERE ARE SO MANY FUCKING RULES TO POKERADARING. WHAT THE HELL?! Also, I've seen people going on chains of three and get a shiny with them. T_T WHY CAN'T IT EVER BE THAT EASY?![/rant] |

Like you I've tried it a few times myself and got nothing. I even consistently ran into the same pokemon 15-20 times in a row. Still nothing. I only follow one rule, just go for the grass that is farthest from you. And of course use lots of super repels. |
I haven't really tried the pokeradar; I'm still trying to get through the main game itself. I've transfered/restarted my games so many times...
|
Just to bring a little activity to this thread...
Slash, I got the Cyndaquil Egg. Despite Typhlosion and Ditto not wanting to get funky, they got funky anyway and made an egg, so probably later tonight we can trade or something. |
alright, cool, I'll be leaving for vacation tomorrow so yeah, tonight would be good
|
Cool, I'll IM you later then.
Ugh. Finding a Modest Riolu is starting to piss me off. T_T |
I can trade you one if you want it, Chaotic
|
I want the benefit of nicknaming it because my Pokemon lack fancy nicknames. >.<
I want to use some interesting, but rather out-there nick names. Thanks for the offer though. |
*bump*
Well I had some time to figure out the tournament layout and I came to this *click here for a bracket layout.* Nothing fancy since my word/excel skills are rusty but this is a easy way to keep track of results. Ie, we can simply hold each bracket on a schedule (maybe every 3 to 5 days) instead of scrambling to find whoever you need to battle. Any input on this? Q: Ok so it's round robin, what do we do next? A: Well the next thing I'd like to know is the team of pokemon you plan to use. Once that's out of the way and If we're all ok with this setup. Then the next thing you need to do is contact the person you're supposed to challenge. Once you finish your match(es) for a bracket, you can report to me via PM/IM and tell me the results or post about it in this thread~ afterall we all like war stories. From there, I'm still thinking. There's only nine of us participating so I was thinking each player in a given bracket plays best 2 out of 3. In between each battle you can modify your team order if you want (hopefully that'll make the matches less boring.) I was also considering the idea of "bench warmers" but that might lag things a little too much. Any input there would help! Or! Same idea, just nix the "best 2 out of 3" stuff. It'll go much faster but that may seem a bit, I don't know. Less exciting. As for rules I'll go with the standard I've seen around other sites, which is:
So what do you guys think? Questions? I'm pretty sure the Round Robin page is self-explanatory-- but if you're confused on the system just say so. I'll try to answer as soon as possible. |
The Level clause. I don't have a single Level 100 Pokemon in my possession. I'm at least saying we should get an average so we can even out what the range of levels could be so we can have a fair competition for everyone.
Other than that, the Round Robin set-up is fine. |
Whoa, wait, the tournament started already? Ack, I wanted to join. ;_;
Is it possible for me to sign up at this point in time? |

I meant lv.100 as in the preset level. That won't affect EVs or anything, will it? We could free-battle our way through this tournament but I get the feeling the level ranges will be HUGE. Even my current team is extremely varied. lowest being at lv.55 and my strongest one at lv.90. Quote:
It'll actually be a good thing. That way everyone will get to battle in every bracket. But if more people join up, like say six more. I may have to switch out the tournament style to single or double elimination. |
Sounds good to me, so far, you aren't thinking of the evasion clause are you? yunno moves like Double Team and Minimize cause I mean it would and will be ridculous to fight some pokes that you can't hit at all, or that need to be hit and extremely high hp (blissey), or already really high defenses, that have other abilities that make them busted anyways, with the combination of evasion moves, you asking for really really looooong battles there.
|
I don't think I quite follow you. How would a singles battle get situations like that? If you have any prime examples I'll consider adding the rule.
|
The jury is still out as to whether preset levels affect EVs.
My thought is that if they do, then they affect everyone and people are still on an even playing field. Otherwise, let those who put the extra bit of work into training reap the potential rewards. When we list our teams, do we have to list the attached items? I'd like to think that some of those things are supposed to be surprises (like Focus Band) and revealing them beforehand ruins the entire strategy. I know some tourneys require item listing so that nobody has a team full of Leftovers or Petaya Berries, but I don't mind. They're all valid strategies in my book. As for Evasion Clause, I find that is going too far. Those moves exist for a reason and it's not like one Double Team makes a Pokemon untouchable. There's still moves like Aerial Ace and Faint Attack. But there's a legitimate strategy to creating an insane defense, and it has to happen over several turns. The first few turns, you're very vulnerable to Sweepers, so it's not like Evasion is some God-like tactic. |

EDIT: Also, I've been reading up on my clauses, and apparently there's also an Enigma Berry clause. It basically states that no Pokemon is allowed to hold an Enigma Berry. I doubt anybody here would use the Enigma Berry anyway since I'm the only one that has them (I think), and, if the berries are busted enough to have a clause, well, I'll opt not to use it. |
But it doesn't mean that you can't counter with your own strategy and just Psych Up to their stats. Then you'd probably be just as invisible as your opponent.
As for what Crash is saying, there's a nice handful of attacks that don't miss. I mean, it's pretty much the opponent's job to stop something like this. If they get to max evasion, it's pretty much the opponents fault for not trying to finish them off more quickly in the first place. It's their loss, you just have to find a way to counter it. Boring, yes, but any good trainer would do their best to find some sort of light in the situation. I don't think we should ban the Evasion Clause altogether, but there should be some sort of limit to it or something. Like only one Pokemon in your party could have a Double Teamer in there. Others would have to have a different move set or something. I dunno. |
