I just picked up R-type: Command for PSP. I'm starting to favor the PSP heavily in favor of the Wii. I almost picked up GoW for PSP, but I figure that will be Greatest Hits eventually for $19. (GoW2 for PS2 is already GH!) Also, I figure R-type: Command will eventually be kind of rare. I've wanted to pick up a strategy game for PSP ever since I got it this Jan., and since I already own Disgaea and FF: Tactics on other systems I've been waiting for this one to come out. Also, I like the fact that it's unique to the PSP system. I'll post a mini-review in the dedicated thread after spending some time with it.

Good. I've been wanting to try out R-Type Command for myself, but I haven't seen a copy around since it came out. Also, Jeanne d'Arc for strategy games. It's not FF Tactics or Disgaea (at least, not as difficult, but then again I kinda suck at SRPGs) It's a really cool title and a lot of fun to play.

I guess I'll do my somewhat-monthly recent game purchases update...

I actually received Grand Theft Auto IV (Special Edition) and Mario Kart Wii. Those two games have combined to own my life for the past few weeks. GTA IV is quite overwhelmingly awesome, and Mario Kart Wii overwhelmingly frustrating; both are mad addictive. After getting blue shell'd/lightning'd during a jump/shell'd/bumped/bullet'd/squashed for the third grand prix in a row, I go off to blow the living shit out of every moving thing in Liberty City.

I also got Odin Sphere and Rogue Galaxy for the sole purpose of putting them on my backlog. Yeah, I'll get around to them eventually. Same deal with Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES even though I'm still currently playing Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3. I'm only in October. ;_;

Octomania was an impulse buy inspired by Summonmaster, who's still too scared to play me in it... or rather I haven't played it much. I got my first WiiWare game in Defend Your Castle. It's pretty damn boring quickly playing by yourself. Get some multiplayer going to spice things up, but then it's boring quickly again. =/

Some Wii accessories as well... I got 3 additional Wii Wheels for 4-player MKW madness. Boxing out and KART-ing is pretty intense. I also tried out the Wii Perfect Shot by Nyko, and it's so much better than the Wii Zapper. I need to get another one for some co-op HOTD.

When will you be bringing GTA4 by so you can blow my mind with next/current-gen graphics that I don't have. Also so I can blue shell you in Mario Kart as well.

Persona 3: FES has been grabbed, but I'm committed to not playing it until I finish the original, to which I'm currently on Christmas. I should've finished awhile ago, but I bought Nobunaga's Ambition for PS2, then went to Japan, then had to finish up my Japan conquering campaign first before I touched Persona 3 again.

Ha, there's no way I'll be toting around the 360 anywhere. You come to me. Are you even back in MD yet? =p

And for the record, the only reason you'll be able to blue shell me in Mario Kart is because you'd be way behind me the entire race while I'm in... first. :tpg:

GTAIV son. I was surprised they let me buy it because I'm not technically 18 until September but I flashed the college ID so that might have worked in my favor.

Anyways, is nice. I want Metal Gear Collection and Mario Kart Wii though.

Jin May 26, 2008 12:27 AM

Got another copy of FF7 Crisis core since I gave my copy away to my nephew. He just bought a psp so I thought I'd start off his game collection with a game he always takes off of my shelf.

Freelance Jun 6, 2008 10:26 PM

I finally got SimCity 4. I was waiting for it to go down in price, and I snatched it up today at Wal-Mart. I got the Deluxe edition with the Rush Hour expansion. I can't believe I used to hate this game.

Now if only there was a mod for Asian buildings. What I loved about SC3K was the inclusion of an Asian tileset.

Leknaat Jun 8, 2008 01:09 AM

I just got Tales of Symphonia. I'm really enjoying this game. I'm still waiting for Rogue Galaxy to show up.

Chaotic Jun 8, 2008 09:59 AM

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!

I finally got around buying BioShock. I placed an order at Videogamesplus.ca with Bioshock and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Been wanting both of them for a while, and got some cash for my birthday today.

I'm really looking forward to Bioshock. I've heard a lot about it, and during the demo I noticed the atmosphere is obviously something special.

More old hard-assed games

In the past week I picked up all of these good games:

PS2:
Gradius III and IV - There was one copy of this otherwise sorta pricy game buried in the 'cheap shit' bin at one of the local Gamestops, which I think was the only copy available in my entire county. Both of these arcade ports are absolutely hard as hell (I think III was actually pulled from arcades because of its abusive level of difficulty). I'd been searching for this disc for a while and at Gamestop it was only 7 bucks or so.

Gradius V - Gamestop also had a copy of this, so I grabbed it up. This game is amazing-looking and just as good (if not better) than the other entries in the series.

Metal Slug Anthology - These games are fun and challenging as hell and I love the amount of fan service that SNK does with its Neo-Geo reissue packs, which beats the hell out of trying to scrape together several thousand bucks to buy a NeoGeo home console or arcade unit. The Metal Slug disc has 7 games on it (2 of which are different versions of Metal Slug 2, so 6 really) and it doesn't cost much.

N64:
Perfect Dark - I've never played this and I like pretty much every Rare-related title released during their years working with Nintendo. This game costs a handful of dried beans at Amazon.

Star Fox 64 - Slightly more expensive since it came with the very large N64 rumble pack, this cost me a little more (but still less than 10 bucks) at Amazon. I've been having a blast lately trying to get better at the SNES original and I'd heard lots of good reviews of N64's reinterpretation of the game.

Dreamcast:
I bought a giant musty box including the console, four controllers, six memory thingeys, the fishing rod controller, and 10 games (strangely enough, not including the fishing game  ) for twenty bucks at a garage sale. The best games of the bunch are Ikaruga, which I'd wanted for a long while, and Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

I'm trying to complete gathering up the shmup games I really want. I still need to fill out my R-Type collection including the rare one for the PS1 and I'd love to find a copy of Radiant Silvergun at another garage sale, hopefully in another giant box full of Saturn shit.

Another Cheap-And-Awesome® game. You'll enjoy the soundtrack too :)

So naturally after I bought Wii Fit, I had to buy a cover to keep the thing from getting dirty. That I did... For 20 bux. <_<

Along with that, I bought a grip and a holder thingy for my Classic Controller and Wii-mote. Yeah, why the hell would I buy this? It's only $3, that's why.

Spending as much money as I have already this month, I picked up Boom Blox also at Target using that $5 off coupon that nutty provided in the Bargain thread a couple months ago.

Project #13 Jun 9, 2008 11:03 PM

I actually picked a lot up this past two weeks. Brave Story, Valhalla Knights, Metal Gear Solid collection, Baroque, Rondo of Swords, Drone Tactics, Ninja Gaiden 2.Thursday I am picking up Metal Gear Solid 4.

Identity Crisis Jun 13, 2008 02:41 PM

I totally took advantage of a GameStop 50% off sale today after I was done with some last minute shopping for Father's Day. Buying Katamari Damacy for $10 seems good. I remember playing the game on a friend's PlayStation 2 for hours, and I'll be damned if I pass up an opportunity like this.

The Sega Genesis Collection was also only $10. I figure, at worst, I'll be spending only two bucks more on Sonic the Hedgehog for the PS2 than on the Wii's VC. I'll also get to play some other games for that extra two bucks.

Odin Sphere was only $20, so I figure I'd grab it before it skyrockets back to its original price tag of $40.

Although not pertaining to the Gamestop sale, I bought a used copy of Valkyrie Profile 2 for about $20. The disk seems kind of beat up, but I can return it when I'm near Gamestop tomorrow if it turns out to be completely unplayable.

WolfDemon Jun 14, 2008 12:53 AM

Finally bought, and am now installing CoD4 for the PC. It was a hard choice between that and Age of Conan. I'll probably be picking that up my next paycheck though. That or GTA4. I can't decide!

Regardless if the disc actually functions or not, this is basically what's going to happen, yes.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jun 14, 2008 10:28 AM

Don't mind Skills, Icy. Aside from the horrible ending, Valkyrie Profile 2 is a great game.

Let's see... not much purchased recently (this Pokemon tournament has kept me really busy). Etrian Odyssey II and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 are on the upcoming list, but they're not here yet.

15 hours for signed MGS4. Since I didn't really have a chance to play the other 3, I picked up Metal Gear Essentials the next day along with Odin Sphere and a used Motorstorm for $20.

Overall pretty good deal. I need to get Mario Kart Wii and some of the other PS3 games I want.

Karasu Jun 14, 2008 10:54 PM

What can I say...it's fucking amazing.

Leknaat Jun 15, 2008 02:02 AM

I got my copy of Rogue Galaxy the other day. *dances* Will play it as soon as I'm done Tales of Symphonia.

Dhsu Jun 15, 2008 02:57 AM

Haha, nice ava/sig.

I got Neo Geo Battle Coliseum. It looks fun.

Dark Nation Jun 15, 2008 03:00 AM

So, since I put all of my game purchases in my journal, this will seem like a lot, but its spaced over a long period of time:
  • Ninja Gaiden II [360]
  • Grand Theft Auto IV [360]
  • Tales of the Abyss [PS2]
  • Katamari Damacy [PS2]
  • Odin Sphere [PS2]
  • Persona 3: FES [PS2]
  • Skies of Arcadia [GC]
  • Beyond Good and Evil [GC]
  • Evolution: Worlds [GC]
  • Super Smash Bros Brawl [Wii]
  • Mario Kart Wii [Wii]
  • Okami [Wii]
  • Ratchet & Clank [PSP]
  • Luminess II [PSP]
  • Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles [PSP]
  • Darkstalkers: The Chaos Tower [PSP]

Probably forgot a few, but oh well.

Leknaat, let me know how Rouge goes ok? I've been eyeing it for a while but I didn't like how it refused to drop in price.

No. Hard Pass. Jun 15, 2008 03:43 AM

Rogue is fucking great, son. Go buy it. Now.
