Well it's official guys (well, at least in my opinion). Wii ROXXXORZZZZ!!!
I went to the Wii displays at a prominent shopping central (Melbourne Central) coming back from the exams and LOOKY LOOKY! The graphics of Wii games aren't as bad as they have been claimed to be. Of course, they ain't X360 or PS3 but even still they look quite pretty. OR maybe it was because they used component cables (the picture quality was more refined). Excite Trucks looked pretty lush and it was even better when the boosts and the BIG DAMN JUMPS kicked in. Wii Sports, though simple in terms of models, still looked attractive enough. Wii Play, though 2D, displayed some nice (though any system could do it) effects. AND ZELDA!!!!! It's way better in real life than the trailers. Plus it looks damn pretty. How did they play? All of them had a slight learning curve but after that it was all natural. Like, as in, no exaggerated "swingin' Mcgraw" type stuff. Wii Tennis was cool, with little touches such as the speaker going "thwack!" and force feedback. Wii-Play was just frantic, multiplayer fun. Excite Truck was, to my surprise (but not others), quite exciting. The steering was a bit awkward but I got adjusted after about 5 minutes and played for about 30 seconds after until I was shooed off by the Nintendo representative. Zelda was (sorry GCN buyers) natural. My only gripe with it was that the build was the E3 build, therefore the control was different from the final one, but after mucking around with the controller a bit it seems that IGN, Gamespot and whatnot's impression on the controller is pretty accurate. It takes a while but after that it's hard to go back to the GCN controller. BTW I just went to play Wind Waker just then and yep. The Wii controls seem to have pretty much convinced me. Anyway, just throwing in the experience I had today with the Wii. |

I went today (well, technically yesterday) but its gonna be on again Thursday. Not only that, there's an expo in about a week that'll have Wii etc. Australia is finally being taken seriously!
W00t!!! Red pocket from my uncle overseas! $100AU GET! (probably for Red Steel or Excite Trucks) |
Hey guys what are these component cable dealies. Chaofan said that the graphics might have been better because of them, how does that work? Also I've had all the other ninendo consoles does that mean that I already have a set of these component cables?
|
No. You have composite cables. Only the cube had component cables in the past and those were only available online. This time however component cables will be available for the Wii in retail stores. If you have a television that supports component video then be sure to get them.
|
Lol, too bad my TV still only supports the composite format. I need a new TV. Preferably something that's light and sexy-looking (aka, LCD TV).
Anyways, I'll probably be camping out my neighborhood Best Buy the 18th for my Wii. This is going to be so much shit to buy..... Wii - $250 Excite Truck and Red Steel - $100 Wiimotes+Nunchucks x 3 - $180 ---------------------------------- Total - $530 Seems expensive, but then you realize how much you actually got and it suddenly looks cheaper. At least relatively speaking. Two games and max supported controllers. Would cost a bit more with 360 and PS3. Must have a Camera Ready by the 18th....when I will be starving and freezing in front of Best Buy. Sounds like fun. |
ill be freezing and starving at Nintendo world thanx to the local gamecrazy not having a Wii for me BAH!
|
I'm not sure if I'm hardcore enough to actually wait for it the day it comes out. I spoke to some women who works at Best Buy today, and she said that they will be getting in about 12 PS3's, and 50 or so Wii's. So I'm honestly not that worried about getting one or not. I'd honeslty be surprised if that many people are waiting in line for one. And if there are, then I'll swing by Wal-Mart or Target.

Holy crap man, that's a Tiny Box....I didn't know it was that small...
I'm excited. Wii's going to be small enough to be unobtrusive and easily portable. Sweet. |
When I was at Melbourne Central the other day, one of my reactions when I saw the Wii and the Wii controller was HOLY SHIT! SO SMALL!! (As someone had posted previously).
Seriously, Nintendo say it's small but it doesn't hit you until you see it. I swear the wiimote makes me think of a little paddle pop! Argh! I either use $100 for a controller combo, or $100 for Zelda... I should probably get Zelda since the good multiplayer games ain't out yet... |
So, yeah... GameStop.com/EBgames.com is starting their Nintendo Wii bundle pre-orders tonight (CST). For the lazy:
Nintendo Wii Console (includes 1 remote controller, 1 nunchuck, cables, sensor bar, console stand, and Wii Sports game) Wii Memory SD 1GB Additional Wii Remote Controller 6 Games: -Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess -Trauma Center: Second Opinion -Red Steel -Marvel Ultimate Alliance -Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz -Madden NFL 2007 12 Month Product Replacement Plan Game Informer Gift Subscription $694.88 plus tax and handling ... So console ($250), SD card (Nintendo, so +$60=$310), remote control (what was it, $30, so +$30=$340, 6 games (at $50 each so +$300=$640), means this subscription and warranty thing combine for about $50. :/ Plus tax AND handling. Really pricey. I definitely want those first 3 games at launch, and I haven't had a Madden game since 2004, so that would be okay. I never thought much about the Marvel or Monkey games, but the Super Monkey Ball should be instant fun. :p Meh, I might just try to get this since I might not be able to go anywhere on midnight on Sunday, or early for store openings. :/ |

Not sure. I don't socialize with a whole lot of other people IRL to know if there is enough hype surrounding it as I'm sure there is with the PS3. I'll swing by at 10pm or so the night before it comes out and see if there's a line forming or if it's just a few. Just in case :)
P.S. I highly approve of your Avatar and sig. |
My decision in waiting to get a Wii is that of whether Walmart wil sell them at midnight (calls will be made early saturday morning) because I doubt Best Buy will open at midnight for the launch, and I dont feel like freezing out northeastern november cold for hours on end (if I have to I will, but not reccomended).
I was doing some reserch at this late hour (for whatever reason) and now I'm forced to drag my ass to Gamestop tomorrow and pick up the USB adapter since the Wii lacks an ethernet port. At least I can play online on my DS whenever.:juggler: |
I watched a Nintendo rep. assembling the Wii display at my local Best Buy on Wednesday, and I just couldn't help but be a little giddy at the sight of an actual Wii after all these months of seeing pictures. Apparently BB displays, or at least that one, will only be playing videos rather than allow for actual gameplay. I would have lingered around and asked more questions, but I didn't want to be a nuisance. The poor tech was already getting irritated by morons like the guys who walked by and tried to buy the display Wii for $500.
I'm considering going back on Saturday to possibly trade in my DS for a DS Lite since I've been having some issues with it, so hopefully I'll get to check out the completed display. |
I found this on another board but here is a stock locator for finding how many Wii's the stores around you will get. I'm not sure how accurate it is. Check it out.

Awesome, it looks like I got the last Wii at my local GameStop. I'm #24 and they have 24 Wiis.
Woot. I should go there tomorrow and preorder some more games. |
I'm still debating if I want to wait outside one store the night before, or drive to as many as I have to on the day it comes out.
It basically comes down to either sacrificing sleep, or sacrificing gas money and a possible chance of not getting a Wii. Dammit, I wish there was an easy solution! |
You could hire migrant workers to drive around searching for a Wii. That's likely an easy solution depending on where you live.
|
I wonder how that wiiseeker site got thier info (nagging calls perhaps).
At least (according to the confimed listings) this puts me more at ease seeings how there are over 200 Wii's available in my town, let alone I dont think that anywhere near 93 people will be in line at a Best Buy, that would be just rediculious. Quote:

Yeah, but that, once again, adds to the cost factor.
Sure, I could PAY somebody to wait for me, but I'm a cheap guy! Honestly, I don't like the idea of driving around looking for a Wii when my efforts could all be in vain, which makes me want to camp out, but then there's all the other factors like trying to get off work that night if I'm scheduled, and finding the right store to camp out at... At this point I'm going between Best Buy and TRU, since Best Buy is certainly going to be getting a decent number of Wiis, and there will likely be a few other people there, so I can get some DS multiplay in. TRU has the possibility of having the most Wiis, but I'm not sure if anybody else will be waiting, and I don't like the idea of sitting alone outside a TRU all night. |
I'm I'm still trying to figure out what time to be at Wal-mart. I mean at first I was thinking 12 pm. But thats crazy 12-12...uhh... I don't know if I want to waste my whole day off work..outside wal-mart. But then again I don't want ot arrive at like 7 and see 80 people outside. (or inside whatever). I am not sure if I buy into the seeker. I'll have to call BB and Wal-mart next week.
|
What does "TRU" stand for? But I do however like the idea of you sitting alone infront of this store all alone on a cold night. Looks like you have no choice now.
