Over here, there were more AR users than anticipated. Over 20 people were ready to sign up but only 9 were able to participate. What really got me is that 5 of those players were around my age.
The tournament itself went well. Lots of watchers, bad news for me is that almost everyone was using some combination of legendary pokemon. Namely Mewtwo, Palkia and Kyogre. Naturally I lost in the initial rounds but I did take down a couple legendaries before my round was up. So it wasn't a total loss, hell a lot of players were cheering for my team for some reason :tpg:.
What was I using?:

Nidoqueen (Leftovers)
Spiritomb (Leftovers)
Machamp (Leftovers)
Dragonite (Lum Berry)

To sum it up, it was a awesome experience. I hope they do something like that again.

Doubt it, but the winner of our tournament got a little mad when they said that the company had only sent them one shirt. So the annoying second runner up got the shirt, the winner got PBR.

Legendaries had to be the most annoying thing at that tournament though. Probably 95% of the participants (including our winner) had a legendary. I honestly hate using them because they feel cheap and I never have to work with them. I guess I'm one of those sad people who actually like that re-assuring feeling of working with a Pokemon and actually raising it myself. :tpg:

Anyway, I constantly saw teams full of Dialga and Giratina. Ironically, I didn't see a single Palkia in the tournament.

As for the tournament so far, I think we should have people submit and lock their teams so we can figure out an average level or something. Maybe with that, we can figure out the range of levels that we could use.

Perhaps we should just do a league style tournament or something. Everyone faces each other once, whoever has the most points is the winner?

And Slash, Jesus, that's a lot of Combee.

I wouldn't mind being in a tournament.

I couldn't agree more. I don't like the fact that I would barely have to do any work to make a effective legendary team. It's just too cheesy for my taste, even if it was for a 50 dollar game.

Different regions had different favorites, it seems =p.

I like that idea, should I create a "league" thread now? Or we can do all the work here, I can swing either way.
..Come to think of it I'm not familiar at all with the pokemon league rules. Is there any official site that would have that kind of info?

Slash Jul 21, 2007 10:39 PM

FEAR MY COMBEE!!!! lol

I actually meant a round-robin type thing, but PBR calls it League Style... For anyone that knows what I'm talking about, it's Magma Colosseum.

But Pokemon League rules?

Rua Jul 21, 2007 11:12 PM

Well did anybody have to deal with a team of 4 deoxs, Giratina, and Garchomp. Here some places to go to if your looking for a battle, elsewhere.
I am on the pokecommunity website most of my time. I don't go to smogon, cause I don't wanna battle team standard all the time (team standard is over used pokemon, so you will see Skarm and Bliss on the same team alot x.x). Another place is neoseeker but I haven't battled enough there to recommend it anyways. I don't have any issues with legends but the Uber legends on the other hand, I do. One thing that makes the uber legends, so uber is their move pool and some of their stats (all of them are riduclous) when you don't ev train them either x.x. A mewtwo in unadvantageous nature, sp atk is still able to hit 336. and cause mewtwo stats themselves he can be a wall, he can be physical sweeper, he can be a special sweeper, he can be a special wall. Its just riduclous.

Oh yeah, I don't know if I put this up already either or not. Here is where I look up all my pokes stat and movepools and stuff. You can look all of the 493 pokes here, they have info on all of them their info is very accurate.

Props to you guys that tried anyways to take down those uber legends. You'll get them next time.

Oh I see.
Besides the DS battles I haven't actually played PBR to know the terms. I thought you were talking about a standard set of rules that were setup for these kind of tournaments.

Funny that you mentioned it I did score myself a Nintendo Wii earlier today but no PBR. I can't think of a good reason to spend 50 dollars on it ._.

Chaotic Jul 21, 2007 11:36 PM

I can't believe I did. The only thing I like doing these days is taking pride in defeating those with Legendaries.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 21, 2007 11:56 PM

Was the consolation prize/gift a bookmark, like everyone was saying? And I'm down for a tournament. I suck since I have no core strategy, but we'll see how things go.

Right now I need to find either a Dragonite with Dragon Dance and Ice Punch from Emerald or a Feraligatr with Ice Punch and Dragon Dance already. Found out I can't get both moves on a Totodile without Emerald. :(

Chaotic Jul 21, 2007 11:59 PM

The bookmarks sucked.

They're bigger than sin and most books. <.<

They gave you book marks, why? They could of gave you something better then a book mark, may be like pen or something... I dunno..

Slash Jul 22, 2007 12:12 AM

Cause to make a bookmark, it'll cost like...500 bucks total for all the stores lawl

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 22, 2007 12:14 AM

I was hoping the consolation prize would have been some event pokemon via Mystery Gift.

Lazyguy Jul 22, 2007 12:21 AM

I would like to take part in your tournament as well just to get in some exp and actually battle ppl who wont use legendaries like everyone else.

But depending on how many people showed up, it might take a while for participants receive the Mystery Gift, and some people might not have it to begin with.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 22, 2007 01:15 AM

Some people might not have books to use their bookmarks with.

Chaotic Jul 22, 2007 01:19 AM

As for one of the guys at the tournament, he wants to rock them at his college dorm. <_<

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jul 22, 2007 03:08 AM

So, they were checking for AR use at the events? And a side-effect of the AR is the creation of 95 Explorer Kits in the mailbag, making it a dead giveaway.

But, what if you had two copies of the game and only used the AR on one. Suppose you used it to get some useful items and capture Pokemon you need, but then bred and raised the Pokemon normally. Then, once they were raised, what if you traded them to your other game, one which hadn't been connected to an AR.

Could they still detect that?

I don't have an AR, so it's moot for me, but I'm still curious.

And Chaotic, I could use some surplus TMs if you can spare them. There's a few I know I'd use in multiples.

Slash Jul 22, 2007 03:23 AM

The one thing I know they couldn't peg on you is the use of pokemon. 3 letters

G-T-S

^-^ Jul 22, 2007 10:42 AM

Ah, but certain pokemon are unobtainable IN the GTS.

Those would be event specific pokemon (Darkrai, anybody?)

Slash Jul 22, 2007 12:34 PM

But if the Japanese got Darkrai, you have a friend who lives in Japan who you traded with for PokeDex Value, then you got it off GTS or you got it from them

^-^ Jul 22, 2007 12:36 PM

As far as I know, even if you have a japanese Darkrai, you wouldn't be able to get it from GTS. You'd have to trade for it wirelessly.
*Or do the sick kid event, involving Cresslia*

Slash Jul 22, 2007 01:13 PM

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get it from the GTS since its just another standard pokemon.

And also if anyone is interested, there is another deivantart tournament going on right now

http://dapokemonleague.deviantart.com/

^-^ Jul 22, 2007 01:53 PM

Because when you get (a legit) Darkrai, it has the Classic Ribbon, which pretty much stops it from hitting the GTS.

Chaotic Jul 22, 2007 01:59 PM

According to the tournament rules at Gamestop, 490 was the maximum of Pokemon you could find. If you had anything higher than that, it would've been considered hacked since no one in the US could get a Darkrai yet or anything...

Which is kinda stupid. <.<

And Crash, unless they checked stats of the registered team, they wouldn't be able to tell. Since all my Pokemon are legit (besides the legendaries anyway), I would've been able to transfer in my team to a Pearl version and I would've been able to get away with it. I was actually thinking about doing that, but I didn't feel like burning another $30 on another copy of a game I already have... But even now, I'm still thinking about it.

Anyway, as I said, if there's any TMs that anyone needs, just give me a PM. As long as I'm not busy, we can either do it on the spot or arrange a time.
