Hey look Pang! I'm Shin! Or am I?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Oct 28, 2008 08:33 AM

Except Shin's a moderator and has the graphic under his avatar to prove it.

Animechanic Oct 28, 2008 08:50 AM

aww...

SORCERER-5 could probably pass as you at first glance, except he's got his name in his title for some reason. That ruins all the fun.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Oct 28, 2008 08:58 AM

To be fair, I've given up on having a clue who anybody is this week, especially as most people are sporting the crash avatar most of the time.

Zergrinch Oct 28, 2008 09:07 AM

Hey look Pang, I'm Denicalis! Or am I?

The unmovable stubborn Oct 28, 2008 09:11 AM

I AM SKEPTICAL

TELL ME SOMETHING ONLY DENICALIS WOULD KNOW

Zergrinch Oct 28, 2008 09:16 AM

Zergrinch Oct 28, 2008 09:41 AM

Товарищ Pangalin очень умные мужчины. Он преподавал в одиночку всей России, как играть в тюрьмах и драконов.

The Dwarven Paladin felt every single wound since he was stranded in the infernal prison at the dusty town of Hog's End. He's been tested severely by Kord before, but not like this. His will is broken, shattered like the remaining shards of the armor still clinging to his bloodied flame.

His spirit is still willing, unfortunately the flesh is much, much weaker.

The dwarf grabbed hold of his battle axe, grinned wryly at the accursed hexer mage, and muttered a prayer of regret at his Deity.

Remove and drop armor.
Shuffle diagonally right.
Bolstering Strike on self.

Gabriel's last thought, as his entrails spilled out into the ground, was one of stoic resignation, yet a grim satisfaction being in command of his destiny.

The unmovable stubborn Oct 28, 2008 10:28 AM

Unfortunately, Gabe's AC and Attack bonuses are such in comparison to each other that were he to attempt to hit himself with his own axe, he would likely miss.

And even if he did hit, he'd be healing himself each time. Dwarven seppuku is an all-day job.

Zergrinch Oct 28, 2008 10:31 AM

It would work, because the Hexer slowed Gabriel down, remember?

But anyway, I can heal myself by attacking myself? Sweet.

The unmovable stubborn Oct 28, 2008 10:33 AM

Be warned, killing yourself grants no XPs or lewt

Zergrinch Oct 28, 2008 10:36 AM

It doesn't matter at this point. Kord's honor demands it!

Also, technically if Gabriel were to put down the axe with the sharp edge facing up, and throw himself into it belly-first, it should nullify any defensive AC bonuses, should it not?

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Oct 28, 2008 11:15 AM

Aaaaanyway...

As far as I can tell, his frost ray does 1D6+6 damage, 4 for his intelligence modifier, 1 for either his staff or wand and 1 for Burning Blizzard feat, a damage range of 7-12. With a bow he does 1D8+3, a damage range of 4-11 which would suggest magic is the way forward but I'm not sure how the rolls to hit are worked out. Magic is intelligence vs Fortitude but bow attacks are dexterity vs AC. Bob's intelligence and dexterity are the same but I have no idea vaguely what we're fighting ever has in the way of fortitude or armour.

Am I working the damage rolls out right and can we take it as read that if Bob misses he uses elven accuracy to re-roll please? That way I'm not so bothered about how likely he is to hit things if he gets a second chance without me needing to jump in before the next person takes a go.

I like how the frontpage post preview is completely worthless for picking up quotes or edits.

Let's see here.

Frost ray is +5 to hit, at 1d6+5 (6-11)

Shortbow is +6 to hit, at 1d8+3 (4-11)

Which makes the bow seem like a credible option, but nearly all monsters have a Fortitude lower than their AC, so all else being equal they're just as likely to hit and the magic edges ahead.

Elven Accuracy is an encounter power so we can't exactly use it on every miss, but we can assume Bob uses it on your first miss (or whatever) every fight if you want.

Two questions:

Would any of you find it helpful to actually know explicitly what rolls you're getting?

Would any of you consider it more useful to have the charsheet information on a webpage (probably a wiki) than on the PDFs?

Additional Spam:
Deni, I regret to inform you that you have once again overestimated your total ration of hands.

No. Hard Pass. Oct 29, 2008 04:27 AM

I noticed. I lost track. Speaking of: One use of any divine encounter power. As in I can't use smite and divine strength in the same encounter, right?

Isn't Ray of Frost 1D6+6? If I'm reading the sheet right (Which I'm more than likely not) Bob gets +4 for his intelligence modifier, +1 for the damage bonus on his staff of expansion and +1 for having Burning Blizzard.

I don't think actual rolls would be of much benefit to me, other than as a matter of interest type deal but if I'm attempting something ridiculously unlikely, it'd be nice to know so I can change tactics but you're pretty much doing that already (Like how Bob can't climb walls). An online character sheet might be handy though as I only have a copy saved on my work computer and never actually update it anyway.

No, that applies only to your Channel Divinity powers (Divine Mettle, Divine Strength, Kord's Favor).

So you can use your Smite and one of the Channel Divinity powers in a single fight, but you can't use multiple Channel Divinity powers. (and when you reach level 3 and get another encounter power, you'll have the use of that, the smite, and a single Channel power, and so on)

Bob's intelligence does give a +4 to hit, but it's only a +3 to damage. The 1/2 level bonus is a little finicky in its application.

Answering your question up there, I don't mind PDFs, and I don't need to see dice rolls, but I'm clearly not a power player.

The unmovable stubborn Oct 29, 2008 09:28 AM

Well, it's not really a question of "minding" the PDFs, it just seems like a good idea to put the sheets in a place where everyone can see them.

I mean, *I* know when Deni's used up all his Lay On Hands, or when knk's used up all his healing surges, but if they don't know then all my extremely-accurate documentation does nobody any good.

Sarag Oct 29, 2008 02:23 PM

Well if you want to do the work, I'd check the site.

No. Hard Pass. Oct 29, 2008 04:33 PM

Yeah, I think it's a great idea, and allows us to check off our own stuff when we use it.
