So I don't get it. Are we suppose to be able to register for the MGO beta today...?

I went on the teaser site and didn't see any kind of registration form or anything :(. Has it not relaunched yet?

It looks like the US has it's own Beta plan in that you can preorder MGS4 at any major retailer and you'll get the Metal Gear Saga Vol 2 DVD that has the Beta access code in time for the beta test on April 21st:

Hmm. I thought that the MGS4 preorder just guranteed your acceptance into the beta, but wasn't necessarily the only way to get in. I was hoping that this 'registration' would kind of work like the Warhawk beta - where you fill out a form and pray you get in. Who knows, though.

EDIT:
Hey, maybe I should read your source before replying like a fucktard.

Q: Will consumers who don’t pre-order have any chance to join the beta?
A: If additional promotional partners are secured, there is a possibility of making beta access available, but nothing is confirmed at this time.
So while there is still a chance of gaining access to the beta if you don't preorder, nothing is confirmed/guranteed. Question answered.

Looks like I'm preordering, even though I really don't want to. You know they are going to re-release this game like they have done WITH EVERY SINGLE OTHER MGS GAME.

SouthJag Feb 29, 2008 11:29 PM

We got an e-mail from corporate office today saying that we'll (GameStop) be receiving the pre-order DVDs soon that will include access to the multiplayer beta. So go to GameStop, pre-order it, and check like mad to see when it'll arrive.

Shenlon Mar 1, 2008 08:33 PM

I'll defnitly pre-order it, even if a re-release of the game is done. (probably be called something like Subsequence)
I never get them anyways, the extras in those things never really interest me, I just want the full game and thats all I need.
I can't wait to try out the multiplayer tho, beta wont matter much to me but if i do get it, then lucky me ^^
And being how hideo goes crazy with his "easter eggs", I wonder what/if he plans to interpret anything into the "Home" experience since Im kinda interested in that aspect as well. I can't wait till June 12th, I wantz it now.

My Medicom RAH Old Snake came in the mail today! Pretty sweet figure, though his all plastic outfit somewhat hinders the articulation (which is also turned out to be a huge dust magnet, gonna need a display case for this guy). And his vest seems really delicate, I somehow tore off the knife holster already, apparently the only thing that was keeping it attached to the belt was a thin piece of paper (instead of the same fabric at the belt). Also, I found the knife to be pretty much useless since it's thin as hell and Snake can barely get a grip on it.

Heh, other than those complaints, I think the figure turned out great (especially the sculpt). Can't wait till Raiden releases!

Pretty bitchin' figure, Hantei.

In other news, MGS4's Japanese vocal track will be taken out of the US and Euro releases due to lack of disk space. I don't really care about the Japanese track, but I'm sure someone does. Anyone here?

Not really. Used to the Eng. VAs, and they aren't a problem. :)

Slayer X Mar 3, 2008 11:40 PM

I don't. David Hayter to me IS Snake. Any other voice just wouldn't feel like MGS. Same can be said for Otacon, who also has the perfect VA. Besides they are american characters. Makes sense that they'd be speaking english and NOT Japanese to begin with. No?

espressivo Mar 3, 2008 11:50 PM

if anyone wants to sign up for the beta, here it is:
Quote:

But You must Disguise yourself as a Japanese person.... You must first Create a Konami ID(Guide here:Creating a Konami ID : Fuyoh!) and then You go to sign up here ... https://id.konami.net/mgo_beta/

and the you will receive your Code for Download

I think i am gonna wait for the US one... i don't want to go through translating all those sign up pages to English -_____-"

but i thought some people might be intrested !!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, but you must have a JPN PSN account -___-"

EDIT 2 :
But remember even if you sign now the beta will not be available to download until 14 April, and it won't start until start until 24 April ... so if you wait for the US one (pre order) then you are fine

Here. I was actually looking forward to getting the chance of finally for once play MGS with the japanese voices, which sound better (because I don't really understand what they're saying) in my ears.
I'm a bit disappointed that even with Bluray games are behind movies in terms of language options. I really think that should change, especially with japanese games, even if it's just for the tiny margin of people who actually want this.
And then I'm even more disappointed that the Japanese version doesn't include English subtitles. Seriously. Especially since PS3 is region free this is pretty much the finger given to import fans - unless they just expect import fans to speak japanese.

Ah well. This IS an issue to me, but only a minor one.
I can live perfectly well with the US cast. MGS always had top notch VO.

Now, if they just released the MGS PS3 bundle over here in Europe.... Which they apparently won't do... Not even a bundle with Dualshock 3 is planned... -_- THAT is actually a much bigger issue than the voicecast. Ah well...

Well, you're very much welcome to be dissapointed for something so arbitrary, knowing that the game filled up all 50 Gigs of a Blue-Ray disk should be somewhat reassuring that it will have a lot of relevant stuff worth keeping..

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 4, 2008 05:24 AM

Or they aren't really optimising their compression as well as they could be, since a good 90% of american market won't care for anything other than an english dub.

I too am disappointed they won't be including optional original audio tracks. If the jap release had optional english text, this wouldn't have been an issue, but like usual with MGS games, it doesn't.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. Mar 4, 2008 05:34 AM

From what I understand the game had to be compressed to fit the disk, but I'm no compression expert.

Here's that info, although I'm sure it's been posted.

Slayer X Mar 4, 2008 06:55 AM

It filled up 50Gigs because;

*the entire opening is pre-rendered and not in-game
*the entire game is in 1080P
*All the audio is uncompressed digital 7.1 PCM

I'm disapointed that with even 50Gig Blu-Rays that movies still don't have the great content -> $ ratio that a game does. So I call the two square if nothing else.

Also like I said, a lot of people (myself included) believe that the English VO is at least equal if not superior to the Jap VO becuase of the characters nationalities. You don't really ever see a Russian ever speaking Japanese or Americans who speak Japanese exclusively, therefore I find the Japanese VO to actually detract from the game's believable characters personally (if we were to have Jap VO that is, this is based off the Jap trailers ). So you're not really missing much. Just watch the cinematic on youtube or something if you want to see them that bad.

Tagonist Mar 4, 2008 08:28 AM

Well, due to the game being a japanese piece of entertainment, I don't find japanese VO distracting at all.
That, and Snake having the same voice as Batou of Ghost in the Shell fame. I just like him / his less "urr action hero gruff" Snake better than Hayter's.
From what I've seen so far, there is some VO stuff in MGS4 that sounded better to me in Japanese though, and that is the Beauty and the Beast unit. But I guess they just sound as off to someone actually understanding what they say as the English VO of them sounds to me...
But - this REALLY is splitting hairs. MGS has always been loads and loads of fun for me. And I'll always keep the HORRIBLE (whorible) German version VO of MGS1 on PC in mind, which serves as my all time example of how a VO should NOT NO NAY NEVER sound like - and up till now is my prime reason to always avoid fully localized games here.

Quoted for goddamn truth! The fact that I am not exaggerating when I state that Liquid sounded like Kermit the Frog is a powerful testament to its awfulness.

Personally, I think that Otacon's VA is very good at the "explaining stuff" thing but his "grief" dialogue near the end of MGS2 made me cringe.

About the "only local voicetracks" thing...for me, it just means that there is a whole Bluray packed to the top with MGS goodness waiting!

Megalith Mar 4, 2008 03:02 PM

The entire game is rendered at 1080p? I think not.

It is safe to assume that the cinematics are, I suppose.

I also assume that the game may come with multiple encodes of its soundtrack, like Uncharted.

Only problem is that quantity doesn't always equals length. Look at Heavenly Sword. I'm not excited when a game fills up a media. (Then again, I was taught from others in the industry to not try to fill up a media as much as possible). To be honest, it's another thing from Sony pushing among other devs to try and show off how big the media format is. :erm:

Shenlon Mar 4, 2008 05:16 PM

Metal gear has always been known for its lengthy cutscenes. so wether it be gameplay or it's movie scenes, it's sure to have quite a few hours to kill. I can't imagine what sorta content they would put in the game tho, maybe a movie theater, something relevant to dogtags, art maybe?
Let's face it, they won't release any real extra content until they re-release the game.

Slayer X Mar 4, 2008 05:23 PM

Well Heavenly Sword also had 5 languages, each with a DTS 5.1, 7.1 and 2.0 variant on the disc. Therefore if you don't want MGS4 to be as shallow as HS, then you should be glad that it only has one language on the disc.

Megalith Mar 4, 2008 05:24 PM

I honestly believe that they did something crazy, like allow you to play through MGS3 again in MGS4's engine in a VR simulation or something.

50 gigs is outrageous.

i completly forgot about VR. It doesn't sound crazy at all to think that they would bring that back and then have an online scoreboard of who beat what the fastest. I was never a fan of VR but it doesn't sound farfetched. Then they'll advertise it by tricking consumers to buy the game by saying something like "Play the game again as Raiden! in VR ~_~

Well I wasn't really talking about the game's length so much as content, visuals, etc.

I understand. :)
I was more of stating that filling up the format doesn't always makes one feel reassuring. People hyped up games because of how much data it held, but honestly it doesn't feel like worth anything.
