Not alone!
I would much rather flip sausages and eagerly hope for the 1/9 ultra chance. However, today's news must have made many a fanboy happy and caused many "I told you so's" to erupt all across the internet. Anyways, I'd much rather have Sonic than Snake for the fanservice-in character, and I wasn't as annoyed at the inclusion of the hedgehog compared to Snake sneaking in. However, for the most part, any surprise has been a good one so far.

Honestly, unless you live in 1998 anything below 800 pixels in width is a-ok.

It was nice to see a Melee demo character selection screen in that spoiler though. Brings back nice memories of following it those years ago. =)

Dark Nation Oct 10, 2007 03:45 PM

I guess Game & Watch could be a 'hidden' character, as there's no guarantee that all the items and characters listed so far are all that will appear in the game.

I wonder what tonight's Japan Time will be...? Probably Sonic's Theme or an Item/Assist Trophy.
Where's Captain Falcon? :gonk:

The_Griffin Oct 10, 2007 04:03 PM

Is it just me, or is that Tails in Player 1 on the first screen Metal Sphere posted?

Player 1 cursor is over Pit, Player 2 is over Sonic. Maybe that's an alternate Pit color?

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Oct 10, 2007 04:08 PM

Looks like the regular color scheme for Pit to me.

Looks too yellowish to be that, considering that he's just wearing white normally, and not dingy sheets either.

Edit: Just the bow, disregard.

I got foolt by the new thread title. Well played.

I think we all saw this one coming but it's still pretty amazing. I'm personally holding out for some more third-party character announcements but I'll be surprised if there's anything beyond the Sonic clan (you know Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik and probably some other character will be in this game).

Game & Watch was a very unique character and he was blast to play, especially when you use him to piss off tourney fags :tpg::3:. I still want the greatest "piss-off tourney fags" character back thouugh... JIGGERRYPAAAAFU!

Japan Time will most likely have, like, "Sonic's bumper" or something of the sort. Lightning can't strike twice right?...

Oh, and Captain Falcon comeback seconded. "FOREVER HE WILL BE MY H3Ro3Z!!!"

Gonna have to disagree there because the fanboys will never shut up about this... to explain what I mean I can only think of Marvel vs Capcom 2 as a example. That game was so broken it's not even funny but the fans loved it and will never forget it (being one of the most wanted emulated games is all the proof you need of that) because it was one great big fangasm of two franchises best characters; if anything Brawl is going have the same effect only more so depending how many more people are added.

I welcome Sonic over Snake any day, he's not as badass but it just makes more sense somehow. It's hard to explain but I get a vibe from the video that Nintendo had more input into adding the character then Sega, because of little extra attentions to detail they haven't used in years, like his old finger wiggle. Seriously am I the only one who can't remember the last time he did that pose in any new game let along a 3D one? :eagletear: I'm looking too deep here I guess, but it's nice to know Nintendo respects the mascot of it's old biggest rival. I just hope any more newcomers doesn't make this game start resembling some kind of 3D mugen

WraithTwo Oct 10, 2007 10:18 PM

Time for them to finish the 3rd party trio with Megaman. Yes, add Megaman then stop there, and the game will be perfect.

They won't, they're aiming for a roster of 40+ characters, so we've got a bunch more after him if he's in the game.

FatsDomino Oct 11, 2007 12:06 AM

I think he meant in regards to 3rd party characters. I can agree with that. Besides Megaman what other iconic videogame character has a memorable series with bosses and characters that also have been on Nintendo systems like Sonic, Snake, and Megaman? Sega and Konami are represented. That leaves Capcom with its obvious choice. Really, what does Square-Enix have that represents them? Really, how generic would a chocobo, a moogle, or a slime be. Bomberman is an alright candidate for Hudson but I really wonder what the character has to offer in terms of fighting (then again I did feel similarly about Sonic). Namco has first choice of Pac-Man (who has appeared with Mario before in the Mario Kart arcade game) and perhaps Klonoa (had a GBA game). Let's see Natsume has Harvest Moon so a farmer I guess or perhaps a Pocky & Rocky duo (if they still have that license). Another duo could be Bub and Bob from Taito or hell maybe a Space Invader if you want to go far back enough. Really, those are the semi viable options left and I'm pretty doubtful on a bunch of them.

If they were smart, they'd have Crono represent them...but since there's no chance in hell of that happening, we're probably more likely to see a Final Fantasy character if Square-Enix even gets involved in this.

We haven't seen Geno in a good while. I think it's about time he made a comeback.

I'm not that surprised by the Sonic announcement. When I first heard of Sonic and Mario Olympics, I figured it would be dumb for them not to put Sonic in Brawl. As for the music, I'd prefer Open Your Heart from the first Adventure game over Live and Learn. But Doomsday Zone's theme would be great.

FatsDomino Oct 11, 2007 12:17 AM

See that's the huge problem with Square. All their interesting series are crumbling and covered with dust. Geno was a popular choice among Japanese suggestions and while that sort of works I'm still not sure if I agree in the whole representation bit. Geno would be fucking rad to play as no doubt about it but I'm thinking along the lines of Square-Enix. As much as I hate it, Sora (had that GBA game) probably is their best bet and even works well considering he's the by product of a cross over already. Just replace the Mickey Mouse icons on him with Mushrooms or smash logos and be on your way - that is if Square-Enix completely own the character or Disney isn't a dick. Still, I dunno. I definitely prefer Geno to Sora but I'm really trying hard to figure out a good Square-Enix representative.

How about a Belmont? Or even Ryu?

(My vote's for Q'Bert.)

I don't like the idea of a Belmont because Snake already is representing Konami. Although, if I had the choice, I don't know if I'd chose Simon or Snake. I'm a bigger Castlevania fan, so I'd be happier to see Simon, but from Nintendo's perspective, Snake is probably the much more popular move.

I would shoot down Ryu for a similar reason; I would simply rather see Mega Man represent Capcom, and I'm against more than one non-Nintendo character per property. However, I'd rather have Ryu than no Capcom character, and having one of the stars of the game that basically started this game's genre would be pretty cool.

As for the Bomberman comment earlier, a friend suggested that earlier tonight, but I don't think they'd be able to make a sufficiently deep moveset that would make sense for the character. However, if Nintendo made him work in a way faithful to the character, I'd be all for it, as Bomberman is the original multiplayer bomb (seriously, pun not intended).

FatsDomino Oct 11, 2007 12:50 AM

:rr:, that's just it. A Belmont? Ew. Plus Snake already represents Konami well enough. If we were to have another Konami character then Goemon all the fucking way (summoning IMPACT would be the best smash ball move EVER). Ryu... maybe Hayabusa but Tecmo hasn't shown Nintendo any love in quite a while (I think the new Ninja Gaiden barely counts). Ryu from Street Fighter I'd say no to in favor of Mega Man. Ryu already is in a fighting game. Ryu Hayabusa is in DoA for that matter.

As hilaarious as Q*Bert would be Gottlieb hasn't made games in years and as far as the gaming industry is concerned they and Q*Bert are pretty dead. Not gonna happen. But hey have your vote.

kuttlas Oct 11, 2007 01:44 AM

I'd like to see Mega Man in Brawl but knowing Capcom they'd want to have the Starforce version for promotional purposes. I'd be surprised if Pac-Man wasn't in the game for Namco.

As for Squenix representation, I don't see what's wrong with generic mascots seeing as how that's what the Pokemon are. I think a moogle would be a good choice. Give him moves based on the Mog dances from FFVI, maybe his B-down could have him slam the save book from FFIX? From a promotional standpoint they might go for Batman from Final Fantasy IV (with a DS remake on the horizon) or someone from FFTA2.

According to the melee character survey a Chocobo was the most requested third-party character (more than Sonic).

Either Cloud, Sephiroth, or SE's KH characters (not the Disney ones). I mean they're already using those to no end. :gonk:

Sonic's special moves have been posted.

Up Special Move: Spring Jump

Uses a spring to jump incredibly high. Others can use it too. (Has to be used on the ground to be used by other characters though.

Down Special Move: Spin Charge

Hold the control stick down and tap the Special-Move button to charge up Sonic's spin.

Side Special Move: Spin Dash
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara..._071011a-l.jpg

"Hop into a supersonic Spin Dash. If you charge it up just a bit, your speed will increase.

It’s also possible to rise up while spinning."

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara..._071011b-l.jpg
Hit them with the spin dash...
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara..._071011c-l.jpg
... with a normal mid-air attach right after it...
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/chara..._071011d-l.jpg
... and do one more spin dash to return back to the stage.

FatsDomino Oct 11, 2007 02:07 AM

So 3 AM EST is Japan Time, eh? I was just there a few minutes ago. Cool.

Yeah, so the spring looks like it could be really fun. How does that work when he does B-Up while mid-air though? He looks like he could be tricky to control but man does he capture that speed we all know him for. I just hope he isn't broken because of that.

Guessing it just quickly warps to spring him up, then it disappears. It only said the spring would stay for a bit if it were used on the ground.

So, any bets on the Friday update being about Sonic's Final Smash?
