Not to downplay your announcement or anything, but where in that source does it confirm June 12th?

It just says late Q2, like every other source says.

Megalith Feb 26, 2008 05:57 PM

The only thing that is confirmed is Q2 2008.

Everybody else seems to be pulling stuff out of their ass.

Whoops, I probably should of linked where the original announcement came from. My bad.
MGS 4 Release Date announced at Destination Playstation - NeoGAF

The OP and thread originated long before the PR and PS blog was posted which is why most of the posts on the first page call for "bullshit" and "fake" until other press folk confirmed it was true.

Day and month was more than likely excluded from the PR due to that media for MGS4 is supposed to have a "re-emergence" that'll start with the release date from Konami themselves along with a flood of info leading up the game's release. Retailers now have the game up for preorder since the PR too including Amazon along with the release date of June 12th.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 26, 2008 07:45 PM

Yeah. Some random NeoGAF poster's "brother" isn't a source. Unless there's something farther down into that thread from someone recognizable, or a source with some official standing, I'm saying "no, fuck you". And I sure as fuck ain't gonna read a multi page thread on god damn NeoGAF of all places and hope I come across a valid link. So either drop one or edit your original statement.

Also, retailers have had June dates listed for some time, so no. That's not an official confirmation either. There's another thread where we were talking about this, (probably the PS3 thread) where we were discussing those dates too, they've been listed on various retailers for that time frame for a while now.

So uhh, try again chief.

SouthJag Feb 26, 2008 08:21 PM

Another source!

GameStop's also received an e-mail from our corporate offices about this.

I agree except this guy's "brother" was able slip the scoop about the MGS4 PS3 bundle. Dual Shock 3 coming in April with price and the God of War PSP 2 hours before anything official was released and was fucking spot on to boot so naturally there wasn't much reason to discredit the day and month for MGS4's release he provided.

Another source? Sure here's one but it's pretty much the same "we got an inside source at the conference who said...":
Playstation 3: Metal Gear Solid 4 Finally Has A Release Date

The new Famitsu confirms the 6/12 date apparently along with the details of the Limited Edition version of the game but getting scans of that and confirming the info is going to take some time (hopefully by the end of the night) and if all else fails then theres the Kojima Productions Report on Thursday.

Don't suppose theres anything about how this whole preorder/beta thing is planned to work out is there?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 26, 2008 10:56 PM

Kotaku has a penchant for being one of the worst "sources" of news on this here internet. They too, are not a valid source.

I'm not discrediting the date or the fact that it could very easily be the day it'll drop, but I'm sure as fuck discreditting where you got your information from. I'm actively considering banning a few news sources for being totally, completely, and utterly shithouse. Kotaku is one of the forerunners there (along with a couple of others).

The best part about that link you gave just now was that they say "OH YEAH WE JUST GOT CONFIRMATION OF JUNE 12TH, SEE THE JUMP", and then the release says nothing about June unless it's in regards to GoW PSP bundle. It just says Q2 2008, again. Big fucking whoop.

Famitsu would be EXCELLENT, or, you know, that report. All fine and good, but Kotaku and NeoGAF are great sources of bullshit, so you're going to have to excuse me for telling you to tone it the down until we can get a real source on this shit.

Definitely not some dude's brother. :p Don't know an exact date yet, but ever since GameStop's had it as a pre-order, it's been June 18th. Nice ava/sig, Skills. CT love.

My assistant manager and I were talking about this when we heard the news. I think it's gonna be something like the following scenario: you download the multiplayer game from the PSN (think Lost Planet's demo), pre-order the game at GameStop and receive a voucher/coupon code that gives you access to the game like a CD key, and BAM! play the game.

It could be something entirely different though. Who knows.

Thanks, Lurker's the inspiration, and while her work is better, I'm glad you like mine.

I'm inclined to agree. The digitial distribution model of additional content for preorders has been the norm on XBL for some time now, and I can only imagine it would be easiest to do it this way for the PS3 as well. The logistics of how it's going to be downloaded (before or after bonus code redemption) would depend on the PSN store, but I imagine this is how it's gonna go down in some form or another.

Famitsu and Dengeki Playstation confirms 6/12/08 as the date to "Sneak Out". Versions available include the regular edition and the "Special Edition" which includes an extra Blu-Ray disc containing a "Making Of.." doc, trailers and more "extras" according to the article. Japan is also getting a PS3 bundle except it'll be the SE version of the game bundled with it.

So the sooner the SE gets announced for the US the better. :D

SouthJag Feb 27, 2008 11:53 AM

Does that PS3 have a giant red ? stamped on it? I'll keep mine if that's the case.

Nay. According to the info underneath the photo the MGS4/PS3 bundle comes with an exclusive PS3 and won't be revealed until March 21st.

So it could either be the same as the US model albeit with the SE version of the game given Japan doesn't have the 80GB unit or it could be an MGS4 coloured/skinned console.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 27, 2008 08:46 PM

Hey Simo, just wanted to throw out there that I'm thankful you supplied a better source in the end. If only more people were so diligent. Thanks a ton.

I just really hope the exclusive PS3 in question isn't something that's stamped with a design, and instead it's something with a larger hard drive or a slightly different colour or something.

Don't worry about it man it's all good. Trust me, I was calling bullshit when I came across the news too and it didn't help that an ad supposebly from Famitsu announcing the 6/12 date got debunked last week and now this! In the end I posted the date and info just to get out for something to discuss and now that it's all official we finally have a date to fucking look forward to!

Oh yeah, bigger boxart sexay:

Marc over at the MGS: TUS translated some of the info in Dengeki Playstation that includes a message from Kojima to the fans and some info:
Quote:

Hello again, everyone. Sorry for staying silent so long.
MGS4's release date has finally been decided.
It will be released worldwide on June 12th.
We are currently making our final adjustments and polishing the game.
I and the rest of Kojima Productions feel your excitement.
Snake's final battle is almost here.

Hideo Kojima

Designer / Producer / Director
New Info:
  • Briefings:
You control Mk.II during the briefings, allowing you to adjust the camera (including a 4-angle split-screen and ability to turn the window off) and move around. You can also rewatch any of them from the title screen. In the picture on the left, he's ignoring the briefing and looking at what else is going on. He sees Sunny doing something. You can play different songs on the little stereo.
  • Special Edition disc contains all the trailers and some making-of videos
  • Website relaunches 2/29
  • Pricing for different versions and look of bundled PS3 will be released on 3/21
  • TGS '07 trailer will be uploaded to the Japanese PSN Store on 2/29

MGO:
  • Starter pack contains 5 maps, some new (some from previous titles, I'm assuming). Expansion packs add new characters and maps. Pricing and release schedule will be announced at a later date
  • New beta test is for Japan too. No need to pre-order, open to anyone 17 or older with a PS3 and online account. You can apply from 2/29 to 5/5, and it runs from 4/21 to 5/6

HAWT.

I'm assuming that by "Briefings" he means the Codec.

espressivo Feb 27, 2008 10:28 PM

i'm a bit confused on the MGO thing, is the starter pack bundled with MGS4 or do you have to buy that seperately and then download expansions, like some of the games on the PSN?

edit: i just answered my 2nd question

eprox1 Feb 27, 2008 10:45 PM

I remember hearing somewhere that MGO was going to possibly have a monthly fee. I know this is probably total bullshit, but please, somebody say it ain't so.

I would be all over that if it had a big ol' "!". Classic.

So I assume that if you have a Japanese account, you will be able to sign up for this open beta, right?

You pretty much get the full MGO experience when you buy MGS4. From there you'll be given the choice to pay for and download additional content like more maps. I'm not sure about a monthly fee but like others I sure hope there isn't one otherwise my time with MGO will be limited.

It's an open beta for the US as well and I'd also assume European PSN accounts would have access to it too. I'm glad the beta thing is cleared up and at least it's not just restricted to the US. I'd gather the new site will have a form up on Friday to apply for the beta and if it's a new site then it probably means we'll get some new media too...

Ah almost forgot, I was going to post this awhile ago but then GFF went down but March 18th might be the best time to get a refresher for MGS4 since that's when Konami will be releasing Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection:
http://i29.tinypic.com/2cdjz0h.jpg
Set includes:
  • Metal Gear Solid [PS1]
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance [PS2]
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence [PS2]

And all for 30 bones. Worth noting is that MGS is kind of a PS2 port meaning it'll be on one DVD-ROM and you won't have to bother with a PS1 memory card.

Hantei Feb 28, 2008 01:42 AM

That's excellent news, we got a date and a beta on the way! There had better be Limited Edition for the NA release! Why they keep denying us one (reference to the previous titles, minus Subsistence's LE which us Canadian's didn't even get!) is baffling.

Oh and that starter pack is pretty weak. Only 5 maps, with a possibility of some being rehashes of old ones? Meh, but then again assuming MGO is free I guess I can't really complain. Hopefully the only fee we have to pay for MGO is the one for the expansions, otherwise my time on MGO will probably be limited as well. Hopefully that pre-order = access to MGO beta applies to us Canadian consumers as well.

And my Medicom Snake shipped yesterday! I should be getting him sometime next week!

eprox1 Feb 28, 2008 10:36 AM

Well, I just hope that the multiplayer servers last longer than Metal Gear 3's did. What was that - a little less than a year?

Yea around that time. The online was quite fun, and then it was just BAM! we're taking it down. Was disappointed when they did that. Same thing when Outbreak servers went offline too. :(

As for the Beta:

Where would this site be per chance, or a re-direct to the site, in case some of us are interested in it? :p

True but being tagged with a rerelease probably didn't help and now most of the online community has jumped over to Portable Ops. At least now it's a big part of a main title and there's probably more who have access to online on their PS3 via PSN. I mean I never took my PS2 online but with my PS3 I'm always on be it playing COD4 or just browsing the web.

I forget the address for the current official site but as soon as the new one goes up I'll, or most likely somebody else, will post the link. :)

EDIT: Probably would of helped if I checked out the link espressivo posted since teaser sites for both MGS4 and MGO are up:
METAL GEAR SOLID 4 TEASER SITE

Hantei Feb 29, 2008 02:53 AM

Haha, wow after checking out the MGO site, I gotta say I'm pretty excited for it now. I really like the Player Character customizing, it's kinda like GRAW2 or WarHawk, except more indepth. The maps are pretty much the ones they've shown in the trailers, and only two are really rehashes (Urban Ultimatum is more or less City Under Siege). Heh, and I knew that was Gronznyj Grad in the trailer.

Oh and according to KPR, June 12th really is the simultaneous worldwide release (eg. game releases for sale that day, not some shipping date bull). Interesting how they mention that there's "too many items", and how handy the Solid Eye is for finding them. Heh, I wonder how many different items are in the game. Also interesting to note that the NA release won't have the JPNS VA and vice versa, so if you want JPNS VA you'll have to import the JPNS version. Briefings are back, like the ones in MGS and MGS3, and because you can control Mk.II and move closer or further to certain individuals they had to record each person in the briefing individually (eg. their movements, breathing, dialogue). Heh, kinda nifty how indepth the audio is going to be in this game.

Conan-the-3rd Feb 29, 2008 03:55 AM

Hay, does MGS:TSE come with MG and MG2: Solid Snake?

Slayer X Feb 29, 2008 10:21 AM

Actually on the Kojima Report Ryan said that the US version won't have JAP VA and that the JAP version won't have English subs. So unless you actually know Japanese, you won't be playing the Jap version of the game.

Which is fine by me because I don't like playing/watching JAp content when they have characters who should have Russian, American, English, etc accents anyway, so I have no desire to play MGS in Jap either way. (though I'm sure few of you may disagree)
