Here's a collaboration of the Ratchet and Clank cover art.

http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/6...tcollab5jd.gif

From top left: Ratchet and Clank US, Ratchet 2 US, Ratchet 2 PAL, Ratchet 3 JAP (check out those eyebrows), Ratchet 2 JAP, (bottom left) Ratchet 3 PAL, Ratchet 3 PAL Greatest Hits, Ratchet 3 US, Ratchet Deadlocked US.

Now, the two PAL Ratchet 3 covers -- both of them are Greatest Hits covers. At least that's how I found them on Google. I don't know if that was a mistake or not, but I bet one of them is the original with the GH stuff around it, and the other is a re-release cover for GH. In any case, there you have it.

Godai Mar 8, 2006 04:32 PM

I like how Ratchet is alot more happier on the Japanese covers, haha.

Metal Sphere Mar 8, 2006 04:46 PM

Joy and Eyebrows move copies in Japan, Emo and Angst sell 'em in America. Damn, they literally made a cover out of that idoitic sketch Captain Quark drew for their invasion operation.

File this under the "awesome" catagory.

The Ratchet covers remind me of the recent slew of Prince of Persia's.

The next Ratchet needs just a bit more generic rage though!

I really like the art style on those Castlevania box art. They are my favorites!

Although I did cheat for these which are manual covers for the most part, that are similar to the cover art

"I don't know, but he looks angry! Those bread knives look dangerous, he might be about to break!"

Infernal Monkey Mar 9, 2006 03:58 AM

Hahaha, yeah. At least in The Two Toilets, he's sorta looking up just a bit (as the DARKNESS consumes him).

Yeah, especially the artworks look breathtaking. However, the US cover of Castlevania: Symphony of Night is nothing compared to the Japanese one.

Just compare

with

and

Somewhat ridiculous. There seems to be a great fear of using artworks and stuff like that in western regions.

Malmer Mar 9, 2006 11:51 AM

I must be one of the few that thinks that most FF covers look awful, seeing as how they are always posted. It might be that massive black bar at the bottom.

This, however, I think is very beautiful:

As posted on the old board,
here's the holographic version
of Metroid Prime Echoes.

Not to forget the thoroughly
well done packaging of
Electroplankton.

Yeah, so I like shiny stuff =P

Was that Ace Combat cover a joke? Unless the keyword was mundane- spot on!

Metal Sphere Mar 9, 2006 12:38 PM

Heh, I was right. Well... maybe I'm wrong and instead of being pissed, all these characters are simply constipated. And you've got to be kidding given that Echoes had far better art avaiable, and yet they went with some relatively boring cover and tried to save it with... "teh shiny".

Except for FFTA's cover (awesomeness concentrated), the rest are pretty meh.

SketchTheArtist Mar 9, 2006 07:37 PM

I worked on three of those games. Blah.

Anyhoo, the classic series...

Hmm... battles of prince of persia... I play-tested it when it was still on early stage. On sheet I mean. It was a great idea. Then developed so badly....

Grundlefield Earth Mar 10, 2006 04:45 AM

Why would they do that? Why not just keep the godly cover and use it for all countries.

Also does anyone know if ESIV Oblvion has a special PAL cover? Or do only some games have different covers?

Infernal Monkey Mar 10, 2006 05:01 AM

Ahaha, wow, Square's keepin' the tradition of hilariously awful American Final Fantasy box art going!

And PAL Oblivion shares the same cover as America.

Some more SNES covers:

I have that X-Men game. I can scan the cover in hi-res if anyone wants a better look at the artwork.

Holy shit, yes. I remember getting this game and wondering why there was an old man on the front, thinking that was the pilot (quickly found out this wasn't the case).
