Except you didn't state just an opinion, Crash. You tried to state something as fact.

The game is a retread. It didn't add any elements blah blah blah. Just not true. See the difference.

No, you interpreted it as fact.

Know the difference.

Krelian Nov 30, 2009 11:42 PM

You defended it as such.

SuperSonic Nov 30, 2009 11:43 PM

Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game of all time. If he didn't like it, then he didn't like it. It's just his opinion, it's not hurting anyone.

On the other hand I realize just now that the game may be deeply flawed

ZELDA THREAD. I didn't like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

That was a terrible Super Nintendo game.

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Nov 30, 2009 11:53 PM

I bet it didn't even work when you put it into your Super Nintendo.

What a useless hunk of plastic Ocarina of Time was.

Zergrinch Nov 30, 2009 11:55 PM

Hay, it's better than Link to the Past. Link to the Past totally ripped off Ocarina's flow, man! First you got to collect them three pendants just to prove your worth. Then after you proved your worth you get this big ass Master Sword. Then you go around rescuing people and collect them sages/sage descendants. Pfft.

Just a retread of the original. Oh yes. Can't see how that would be read as a statement of fact. I don't know what has you in this fully fucking, woe is me whiny stage lately Crash, and I don't particularly care, and no doubt this will have pang in here within two seconds calling me a hypocrite, but: Stop being such a bitch. Whatever it is, just get over it and stop acting like a douchebag.

Wait, it was plastic? But... but the box told me it was limited edition GOLD! I thought I'd made quite the investment.

This Super Nintendo game just keeps getting worse.

This thread is worse than the I make tribute videos thread

And before anyone says it I've posted in both of them

Zerg you know very well that will only work for like maybe 2 hours tops. Why do you do this?

Incredible how Zelda can still make any internet into serious business. It even boringized the halfwits at 4chan.

First game to use Mode 7 and supposedly "the fastest and smoothest pseudo-3D racer ever on a console at that time".
All my friends were like hey, we rented this here awesome game again. Wanna play again, again? Again? I thought the hype would never die.

For some reason, the universe intended for this one being to find this particular game tedious and annoying. I do not know why :(

I didn't know 4chan moved that fast. :(

FatsDomino Dec 1, 2009 09:16 AM

Zerg, even if you didn't you should know that its content is auto-deleted after a certain amount of time. That's how extremely active image boards work.

Zergrinch Dec 1, 2009 10:00 AM

Huh. Didn't know that either. So basically you can say anything you want there, and it generally won't come back to haunt you eh?

So anyway, in an attempt to un-derail said thread and divert attention from my ignorance of how active image boards work, I'll just come out and say that I felt Tales of Phantasia was overrated.

There was a lot of interest over it when it was first dumped in its entirety in the turn of the millennium (I can't recall the year now, but it has to be between 1999-2001, when the ZSNES message boards was my forum home.) This interest intensified when DeJap released a patch, and later a full translation in 2001.

The game doesn't have incredible graphics (SD3's background look sweeter than ToP), and I don't really find the tunes special (though I did dig the Aviators flying theme). The battle system is unusual for an RPG system, and was rather innovative for its day, although as far as action-adventure games go, I prefer the SoM control scheme.

Looking back, perhaps I might have misinterpreted the popularity of the game. It is entirely possible ToP was talk of the town only because of the novelty factor. ToP was by far the biggest ROM to have finally been dumped at that time. It was also the only SNES game (to my knowledge) to have an opening song with full vocals, something that's trivial after the cartridge days.

If anything, the interest in Star Ocean after the graphics pack was decompressed in 2001 certainly was a close parallel to ToP's popularity. (I never did pick up Star Ocean though; without a manual, I found the battle system a bit tricky to pin down, and there was no full translation or full SDD-1 support for a long while.)

It's Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for me, but that's because 90% of its online players use Magneto, an orange-colored Sentinel and Storm. Plus the usual Cable player assholes who spam Viper Beam all day.

... we've been over this: Motoi (especially 16-bit Motoi) is horribly overrated, and doesn't do anything outside of the game context.
