Just about every store asked me that when I wanted to pre-order the LE weeks ago. I got fed up and ordered online.

So is the Saga disc rare? Or is it the LE? Or is it both?

It's a pre-order bonus, a 30 some minute documentary.

Thanks, but I was just wondering which if either one was getting really "limited" as someone posted at some point.

The one that's really limited is the Limited Edition of Subsistence, which is 3 discs as opposed to the regular edition's 2 discs. This version is pretty much sold out everywhere, as pre-orders (as far as online purchasing goes) for it have ended.

evergreen Mar 14, 2006 12:08 AM

Alright, thanks for the help, Hantei.

Soldier Mar 14, 2006 02:44 AM

evergreen, your avatar makes me ill. What the hell is it from? ><

I called today about Subsistence's availability, hoping they would receive the copies tommorow. The guy said they're on track for Wednesday though. I can't wait another day, I'm dying to try the online mode. :(

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 10:58 AM

Seeing as I’ve never played an online game via gaming console, what apparatuses for the PS2 are needed to play MGS3: Subsistence online? Sure there’s the option of asking the EB Games people, but when they have to evenask me what system MGS3 is on, forget about them giving me tech support.

So:

-SETTING UP-

1) What apparatuses do I need?

Oh I got some things:
Like the PS2 console AND MGS3 game come tomorrow (duh)

2) How do I connect all these wires and shit?

3) How much should I expect to shell out for these items?

4) Any other hidden costs I should be aware of?

Yeah so pretty much make this a total newb’s guide to online gaming.

OR you could just direct me to whatever useful sites having this information already.

Magic Mar 14, 2006 11:10 AM

If you've got a PS2 Slim then there should be no extra costs aside from the game itself. Otherwise you're gonna need a PS2 network adapter which is something like $40. Of course you also need a network cable, but setting that up should be just like connecting your PC to the Internet. As far as I know, PS2 online games do not have subscription fees. I'm not sure what else you need to do but I hear that instruction manuals have a lot of useful information.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 11:16 AM

Instruction manuals. Dude. Too bad spatula's are bad at following directions in general.

Timberwolf Mar 14, 2006 11:25 AM

Instruction manual. What's that.

:p

I myself don't have an adapter, so I can't help out there. Like Spatula, I'm also a total newb when it comes to online gaming.

I just want to know if there are any hidden fees for Subsistence.

There are no fees whatsoever so you can relax. :)

I too have never taken my PS2 online so it's something I'll be looking into as well.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 02:54 PM

So it looks like I'll get my copy for about $22 CDN, trading in Xenosaga I, Wild Arms 3, and Suikoden III for 4, 5, and 9 dollars credit respectively. I really don't care much about Suikoden or Wild Arms, and I've beaten Xenosaga alreay, but something in the back of my mind says that I should keep it, dunno why. KOS MOS must be doing some tricky stuff again.

You'll need the PS2 Network Adaptor first of all. If you have a wireless router, you'll need an ethernet bridge. Linksys sells a wireless game adaptor, which I personally own.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

The only online game that requires the official PS2 HD is FFXI.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 03:12 PM

Speaking of which, what does this Sony PS2 Harddrive do for the FFXI game? I presume it acts much like a "harddrive" for like a PC, except this is for PS2. So can you save games on it or what? Help me. ;_;

You also need the HDD for FFVII: Dirge Of Cerberus too if you're planning on online multiplayer. So if you're a PS2 slimline owner....You're screwed.

It short load time and makes game move more smooth. Same for RE: Outbreak.

Soldier Mar 14, 2006 03:26 PM

It does more then that, it stores the actual game. You also need it to install the expansions.

Spatula Mar 14, 2006 03:27 PM

I still have the fat PS2 SCPH 3900X something like that.

B4-Hunter Mar 14, 2006 04:21 PM

All fat PS2 support HDD =)

Soldier Mar 14, 2006 04:32 PM

I might be wrong, but I could swear hearing that there are methods to install a USB harddrive to a slim PS2, enabling you to use FFXI. I haven't looked into it though, since I don't have to.

Doesn't Subsistence use the hard drive for something? Can't remember.

And Spatula, if you do give FFXI a hand, let me know. I'd be happy to put my lvl 75 knowledge to good use and show you around the world. :edgarrock:

espressivo Mar 14, 2006 04:50 PM

I'm a total noob at online ps2 gaming, so i got a few questions.

1) Can I play subsistence online while using the internet on my computer?
2) Do all wireless routers work with the ps2?

So I need: wireless router, ethernet bridge and cable, and a network adapter to get online right?

Simo Mar 14, 2006 05:15 PM

Ok I'm a little pissed right now.

I ordered my copy of Subsistence LE at the beginning of February on the 2nd and today my order has been shown as "Processing" all day. Now I check to see if it's shipped only to find that the game is now "Backordered".

WTF?! Either they didn't actually get them in stock today or...Shit if it's the latter and they're all out then magazine racks are going flying.

Pietak Mar 14, 2006 05:55 PM

For real? I just checked mine in a panic just now, and noticed that it's been "Shipped". I ordered a day before they quit accepting pre-orders.
I ordered from EBGames though, where'd you order from?

GameStop. Someone else over at GAF ordered from EB and got their order shipped and EB/GameStop are supposed to be intergrated but I haven't read anyone having their order from GS.com ship today yet....
