Is it just me, or did Resident Evil take a TON from early hollywood movies from the 90's? I can think of a few right off the top of my head, but I have always found it odd how much Chris Redfield on the cover of the first Resident Evil..looked like the male lead from Speed.

Typically when you make someone look like a vacuous retarded waste of space, you make them look like Keanu Reeves, yes.

The new trailer is also available for download on the JPNS PSN (probably the NA PSN later today too) and the Live Marketplace. Heh, anyone notice that the trailer seems to feature more caucasian "zombies" now? I wonder if that was in response to the negative media the initial trailer was getting.

Frolov Jun 6, 2008 07:01 AM

The trailer on the Japanese PSN is censored and has different scenes.

If you want to know of some good predictions, check out this months game informer. (guitar hero 4 on the cover) It has a breakdown of the key points in the trailer as well as information that was not released proir to this issue.

Damn those shots look nice but 2010?!? Maybe a PS3 will actually be in my budget by then...but probably not :(.

I watched the trailer some days ago, it was very good, there was a chainsaw. I still think that dude has too enormous upper arms, but whatever

A little more believable than a female heroine wearing a cocktail dress

Yeah I never understood that in RE4. I mean in RE2 she was probably trying to pass off as a resident in the city trying to find her BF and get the hell out of there, but the red dress in RE4? When she was send on a mission to retrieve something in a place full of brain washed people?

I mean aside for sending up the line "Bitch in the red dresss.", it has no real function.

Sheva's design looks cool though, I like the touch of African Native Jewellry on top of the combat look.

(The wallpapers on the official site exposes that her name is Sheva, incase you're wondering where I got it from.)

Since when has a tank top, skin tight pants, and heeled boots been combat?

Aardark Jun 11, 2008 02:40 PM

'A combat look' doesn't necessarily mean 'official military uniform'. Surely you can see the army themes in that outfit. Of course it's still fan service, but combined with military service this time. More functional than a cocktail dress, certainly.

Rotorblade Jun 11, 2008 02:41 PM

But nowhere near as awesome as a cocktail dress. Also, that woman can't be black, she's severely lacking in the "ass" department.

Single Elbow Jun 11, 2008 03:41 PM

She's authentically african, not african-american (yeah yeah).

Anyway pieces coming together and waiting with hope.

Yeah, but hold on!~ She isn't packing dual desert eagles =0 Also, her grocery cart is a couple cantaloupes shy, if you get my drift. And I'm not making a reference to her intelligence =V

Gechmir Jun 22, 2008 06:43 PM

Sigh. Capcom folds. Introduces a "diverse mix" of zombies instead of just black. As someone who has seen a few parts of Africa, I must say that it doesn't make sense to have whites mixed in to shitty little hovels and the like. South Africa? Sure. Big cities? You betcha. But somewhere in the middle of nowhere in North Africa? Uh.

Killing Spaniards = fine and dandy
Killing Africans = zomg racist

Kairi Li Jun 24, 2008 04:43 AM

Well maybe they could justify that if say, UN or people from Red Cross travelled to North Africa in real life, then they could hypothetically get infected in RE5...

Still, I wouldn't be surprise if this IS a response to the whole "Aiee! Must have diversity with Blacks or its racist!" BS.

Trailer looks bad ass. Love that we're gonna have a car chase sequence with gameplay. And Biker "zombies" too. Interesting that Sheva is on the right side of the screen when you play as her... I also spot the trolls making a come back in this one.

As for online Co Op, awesome that people can Co-Op this on LIVE. Annoying for me though if my and my fiance wanna play together... In the same room... With just one 360.

Still, looks awesome! Maybe when we can afford two 360s and two LIVE accounts... And have enough room for two TVs, I would love to Co Op with my fiance or friends who come over. Untill then, I'd probably ring up some online buddies to play with.

As for the Co-Op video, loved it. The characters assisting each other to reach places one cannot reach, and then supporting the character despite the distance in combat, by using weapons like a sniper rifle. Also like the fact that one character can shoot the door lock so the other can join him or her. Boss fights are defintly gonna be interesting with this new element. One thing I like to know is that whether or not we have friendly fire in this game. In RE4 you can definitly hurt Ashley with everything except shotgun spread shots. (She only dies if you aim the shotgun right at her.)

The video also shows that item pick up does not interrupt the flow of the game like the last one. From what I can tell, changing your gear is also likely all done in real time, meaning I doubt there's a pause button when you hit the menu, if there is one...

Another thing I noticed is that the equipment set up is similar with Umbrella Chronicles. A basic handgun and then you can immediatly switch to a heavier weapon on the fly. This is probably done to get rid or minimise pauses that happen when fiddling around with equipment in the menu screen, which can't really happen in a Co Op action game.

Also the video confirms that Sheva is part of the same new group Chris is in, but she's stationed in the African faction, which likely means that she was trained and born there. Meaning those who are still pulling the racist card need to shut the hell up. And from the trailer, looks like some US army people are also stationed there, maybe they're there for relief purposes, but it shows there are SOME white people located there for legit reasons.

Here's a youtube version with clearer audio from the developer comments:

I was just on a few websites checking out this game and the new E3 trailer. I guess, to say the least, I am disappointed. The game looks great, the Co-op looks interesting, but what irks me is the character screaming something about fireworks.

I'm hoping it's a just a random character you shoot in the head and get it over with, but typically, when you see a person in the Resident Evil world like that, it's an important boss character in 'some' way.

Alfred from Code Veronica, Dead Midget from 4, the singing mountain white guy from 0. All those characters ruined the atmosphere the game had going for them.

I'm going to stop bitching now. I'm still going to play this game and like it no matter what. I need to stop living in Resident Evils 'past' freaky experiences.

Kairi Li Jul 15, 2008 01:28 PM

But cheesy over dramatic voice acting and weird characters is what makes Resident Evil the way it is! It's a tradition!

:P

In all seriousness, that guy in the beginning of that trailer did have a fucking annoying voice.

Interviews on gametrailers revealed that multiplayer Co Op can be done with just a single console, for people who wanna play with their friends in the same house.

Also this interview states that head shots cause the infected to spout weird winged thing, meaning more bullets will be eaten up, hence why most E3 players were not using head shots.

Can someone tell me the purpose of co-op in a biohazard game.

YO, CAN I GET DAT HERB...

Kairi Li Jul 24, 2008 04:46 AM

Well Chris IS in a group that now specialises in taking care of Bio weapons, I doubt they would be dumb enough NOT to pair him up with a partner in dangerous areas. And would you rather have an AI partner watch your back, or someone you know that can control Sheva properly?

Not to mention you can drop health items if the other person needs it, essentially you now have more inventory space and someone else to grab stuff you may have missed. Resident Evil latly seems to have the characters go into dangerous areas on purpose for missions as oppose to being caught in a situation and trying to escape, so it makes sense to have your team members working together.

And even in RE2, when Claire found Leon again, I didn't see any logical reason for them to seperate aside the fact that the game was designed that way. I think in a real situation when they met up again, they would partner up and make their way out of there. If there's a zombie situation, I would defintly wanna be working with someone then going alone.

If it comes down to spending time with you or getting eaten by zombies, I'm siding with the evil dead. It's good, though, that you know how you would react logically in the fact of a zombie attack. I'm assuming you have real world experience that would lead to your assumptions about logic in the face of the attacking zombie horde.

Please never use the word logic in a post again if you expect us not to burst out laughing given its source.
