Tsukihime took ages, so I doubt Fate/Stay will be coming around anytime soon.

Also, this is the first I've heard anything about any RPG connections, I was under the impression the game was the same type of dating/hentai game as the original Tsukihime.

SouthJag May 3, 2006 03:17 PM

From what I read, it's a hentai/dating RPG. What the difference is between that and a normal hentai/dating game is I have no idea.

map car man words telling me to do things May 3, 2006 03:26 PM

Ah, that's kinda misleading. It's a "visual novel", meaning a renai game with sex scenes, basically.
That is, basically an interactive storybook with branching conversation trees and multiple paths through the game depending on your choices. Calling it a dating RPG, in relation with the character designs, can lead people to think the game actually has something to do with RPGs, which it does not.

Since I'm here, someone who's watched the anime, is there any mention of the original method of the servants getting their magic powers from sperm (?) or has this been replaced by something cleaner?

SouthJag May 3, 2006 03:28 PM

Since Shingetsutan Tsukihime was brought up, for those that have watched it is it any good? Worth buying the boxset?

map car man words telling me to do things May 3, 2006 03:32 PM

I generally don't like the idea of taking a hentai game and making a "clean" anime series out of it, but I have to admit I really liked Tsukihime. The story is fairly touching and the characters well fleshed out, plus wonderful music and animation.

It's really down to what you're looking for, there aren't really any fight/action scenes in the series in that sense, it's more a supernatural drama with shades of horror.

I'm still hoping they finally release the translation for the game, I would love to explore the other storylines.

They've replaced it with something cleaner. AFAIK, Servants are summoned by the Masters and derive power directly from the Masters. It's something along the lines of the Servants drawing mana from the Master's mana reserves to power up their abilities, heal, and what have you.

Fate/Stay there is ONE main game with the actual plot, and I think about 3 minor sequels/prequels/sidestories based on the same story! The first game is a Hentai-RPG, where the last 3 are Visual Novels with ecchi pics + sounds.

I heard of it being licensed but nothing more about it... not even the release date!

@SJ: I personally like Tsukihime, coz that may be due to I played the game before so the characters are easier to relate to <_< Some of my friends didn't see the interest in them mainly because of that reason :(

Alright. its been months and months since the OVA of Tenjou Tenge. I can't wait any longer. Anyone know which chapter to start on? cause this is getting ridiculous >.>.

Arright, I searched on all the websites whose reviews I trust, and none of them seem to have any reviews on Peace Maker Kurogane, done by ADV Films. My question is this -- is it another big boob fanservice series, or is there something actually good here?

Rockgamer May 8, 2006 12:32 AM

From what I heard (sorry, I've only seen the first episode), it's a pretty good samurai series, bases on the Shinsengumi. I liked the one episode I saw, and plan on getting the boxset sometime in the future.

I found one review, but I don't know how trustworthy it is (it was linked from Anime News Network).

Peter May 8, 2006 05:03 AM

Peace Maker Kurogane doesn't really have any fanservice, but it als lacks a story for the first 18-20 episodes. you get a rather interesting premise in the beginning, but after that it's mostly comedy, and a poor attempt at that. I personally wouldn't recommend it.

map car man words telling me to do things May 8, 2006 05:22 AM

I didn't much like Kurogane myself. Maybe it's because I'm so spoiled on Blade of the Immortal so all other samurai series (besides Lone Wolf & Cub of course) seem so inferior.

Internets!

I need thy help. Through purchases, I have obtained the first six GitS: SAC DVDs and they are cute and such. Here is the dilemma: I do not have the seventh disk, but rumors say the seventh one comes with a box to place these in. Truth? I've only seen the tins that can hold the one DVD or whatever. Assistance requested. Thanksies.

Rockgamer May 17, 2006 02:21 AM

According to ANN, the tin can supposedly hold all seven volumes. Here's what they say:

This is of course the $50 special edition, not the $25 regular edition. It also doesn't specify whether or not it holds all seven special editions (which I know are two discs, so the packaging might be bigger, I don't know for sure) or just this one and only the regular editions of the other six.

Anyway, I hope this helped you somewhat.

SouthJag May 17, 2006 02:28 AM

And I can confirm it for you. I bought the special edition of the 7th volume, and it does indeed hold all the DVD cases in the one tin. However, if you've ordered any other special editions previous to this one, those cardboard boxes will have to go somewhere else.

I knew that from the start...the slits in the boxes do look cool, but I suppose the tin will suffice. Thanks to both of the posters who elaborated on it.

Does this forum have some sort of contest for anime music?

FatsDomino May 18, 2006 08:15 PM

Heh, we actually did have something going for an anime OP and ED contest sometime last year. We had nominations and everything. Skate never got around to it. Dunno if we'll ever have one. We'd have to do it over I think since most of the information was lost. Damn shame.

NYRSkate May 19, 2006 03:59 PM

I'd like to try to do it again. In order to avoid overexposure to contests, I figure one every three months should be good, so if this were to come to fruition, it'd take place starting in September.

hikarub May 20, 2006 02:39 AM

Here's a question that might stump a few, but I'm hoping someone here will know the answer....

http://h1.ripway.com/hikarub/mama_ep8.JPG

This pic was taken from Keroro Gunsou episode 8 and I'm racking my brain trying to figure out what it is a parody of. I'm pretty sure I've seen it before but I can't remember where.

If it helps, Keroro's line is something like, "Ah, the bar is closed......won't you go home?"

Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out!!!

Allright so...on to Fate/Stay Night. I'm trying to get my hands on the Japanese boxset because I just really, really wanna watch it. Are there good/trustworthy websites with Japanese anime DVDs?

Bigblah May 21, 2006 10:11 PM

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp

You can't get more trustworthy than that.

And here's the first volume:

SouthJag May 21, 2006 10:27 PM

I saw that site, and those DVDs are awfully freakin' expensive. I was trying to get them a little cheaper but I guess I'll have to wait.

Lord Styphon May 21, 2006 10:37 PM

If you're interested in lower prices you could wait until January for the North American release.

SouthJag May 21, 2006 10:50 PM

Wait wait wait -- where'd you get that info Styphon? I've been looking all over for the first NA release, even emailed Geneon (albeit only a few hours ago) about it!
