They won't invite if they know you don't have Raise III. As I said, reputations stick.

I am not a fan of the hysteria on FFXI that surrounds new things being introduced. I tend to not play it during times like these.

soapy Apr 22, 2006 10:03 PM

I've never seen anyone actually not invite a player because they don't have Raise III. Are they planning on wiping out? At those levels, the chances of dying are slim, so unless your party sucks and needs a WHM with Raise III, I'm not sure if anyone would want to be a part of that. Especially back when it was a couple of million, people would understand a whm being broke and not being able to afford it.

I kind of like the server I'm on. Even though there are jerks that play, petty things like not having a spell won't mean that your reputation is screwed. Unless you were MPKing people or cheating others, lack of good gear, spells, or not knowing how to play your job right doesn't really affect your chances of getting an invite. People end up helping each other out instead of blisting them or trying to ruin each other's reputation.

FFXI isn't a bandwith hog kind of game. Not like Softnyx's Rakion: Chaos Force. But, it is a very system demanding game. In order to enjoy various areas and set-level places (where you will basically have 150+ other players all hanging out in the same place.) You can "lag" like a donkey. It's graphics intensive if you choose to have the higher resolution settings from the configuration menu. (The one accessible outside of PoL.) And if you choose lower res settings, you'll get more blockier-like displays in-game. But it will definately run smoother.

Much alike with WoW, you want to enjoy the graphics so that every monster, equipment, player, and place look like how they should? You need to have a system with specs that are "up" there.

Mephista Apr 25, 2006 09:28 AM

What's the highest people have got new jobs so far on all your respective servers?

We have PUP and COR to about 58/59 I think, but I'm not sure about BLU.

On a side note, WoW Chat is kicking our asses here, something must be done. :P

soapy Apr 25, 2006 06:37 PM

I think most FFXI players go to Killing Ifrit and Allakhazam to bitch and moan about things :p And it's not as fun when no one here is on the same server either.

avanent Apr 25, 2006 08:53 PM

i know, and wow is so mainstream...

Ive been too busy with school to play since the exp came out... anyone play in a pt with the new jobs? What are your impressions so far?

FFXi was spost to hold me over til wow... So i'd of been one of them... til it deviated completely from the conceptual work they showed us, and thus greatly disapointed me :(.

Tortalius Apr 26, 2006 05:25 PM

The new jobs are fun . my corsair is 22 now. My gripe is the recast on PHantom roll (should be 10 sec shorter IMHO) and the lack of a gun until 15. Otherwise the buffs are interesting. I'm enjoying it.

i'm on remora
same name as username here.

Hey, just an off the subject question that I can't seem to find for the life of me. Are you able to transfer characters from one server over to another?

avanent Apr 28, 2006 08:26 AM

If you played the xbox beta, they had a transfer to an existing server... on rare occasion they allow server migration from one server to a less populate one(There was one about a year ago).

Generally speaking, no, once you create a character they are stuck on that server. Before you make a character though, you can recieve a world pass to start on a specific server.

Kilroy May 4, 2006 08:34 AM

I've (almost) just bought this game, and I think it's hard as nails. I've been killed twice by Ding Bats or what they are called, and one time by a fat bat of some sort. However, I think I've heard that that's normal. I just wish I was a bit tougher... Oh well...

Inhert May 4, 2006 01:37 PM

check the mob, by ether targeting it and clicking on check or by targeting the mob and ctrl+c at low lv(1-12) you can kill all the mob that said:

too weak:don't give exp but very easy to kill
easy prey: give little xp but are easy to kill
decent challenge:give better xp(for this lv) still somewhat easy (depend of the mob)
event match: the mob is the same lv as you, now it can become tricky because certain job can kill them very easily and other will get owned
Tough: give good xp but will be hard to kill, some job can kill them others don't. at lv 1-5 you can probably kill a tough without to much trouble but after that they get harder.
very tough:you can't easily solo that, some job combination can do it but at lower lv don't touch them.
incredible tough: those are only killed in a party,so in solo don't touch them

at low lv aim mainly for the easy prey and decent chalenge, you'll get enough xp and you can kill them faster so you get xp faster too.

those little information are really only good for low lv because after lv 15+ even an easy prey can rip you apart >.>

What server are you on kilroy?

Sometimes they do migration schemes if a server becomes too big, etc.

Tortalius May 5, 2006 04:56 PM

Corsair's 36 now. It's much more fun now that i can do real dmg and buff. I'm excited for Quick Draw in a few levels.

On remora

Kujata.

Yeah, I've figured that I could check them, but some times even the merest Ding Bat ripped me a new one. And then I could watch people examine my corpse before whizzing by (No one wanted to revive me, so I had to return to my home point..). Anyway, some has been very friendly, like casting cure and protect on me while battling foes.

Inhert May 6, 2006 02:27 PM

well the spell raise is lv 25 so if you don't have a whm lv25 passing by don't expect a raise XD and lv 1-4 you dont lose xp and even after tht at low lv you do one kill and you just gain what you had lost

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. May 6, 2006 03:10 PM

Hey Kilroy I'm on Kujata too, what's your char's name?

This new expansion is great. The best part is probobly the new EXP areas. Everything in the new areas respawn so fast that you literally can xp chain forever, granted that there areant 50 other pts next to you (which happens). This is probobly any burn party's dream come true.

Also I'm 5/5 on the tier one assaults and 2/5 on tier two. The tier 2 ones are pretty easy so far which is kind of funny.

K_ Takahashi May 6, 2006 05:18 PM

Might as well remove my stats seeings how I havent played for a year (I dont know why I havent updated sooner). After I get a decent internet connection and some stability IRL I will venture back to Vana'diel (Fenrir server) (I have a few people saying they will power level me and shit so I suppose thats all good.)

I'm called Iacen. Currently I'm hanging around in and around Bastok. It'd be cool if you'd come by or something:edgarrock:

One thing I'm wondering about, why are everything so expensive? I mean, about 900 gil for a frikking potion? I consider byself rich when I've collected 300:/

And is there a sure fire way to get a fishing rod? Perhaps I could get more money by selling fishies, but first I should get a rod.
(God, I sound like a newb... Which I am;_; )

avanent May 7, 2006 03:22 AM

buy stuff from npcs when you can, and sell everything on the AH :) The games been around for quite some time, and inflation just rises... so~

Potions in FFXI are pretty lame imo. Early on, you can make plenty of income by just selling crystals on the AH.

Congle line of abuse. Or is that conga-line. Or congaline. May 7, 2006 03:23 PM

Medicines of all sorts are generally useless in general situations, so don't waste you're money. The ONE big thing you gotta do ASAP is just xp ONE job to 75 as fast as possible, as well as you're subjob. By the time you cap you'll pretty much get the game and the economy, and perhaps figure out how to make money.

ENMs and BCNM40 "Under Observation" as well as KS30 "Desert Swarm" are quite lucrative. That or level up a craft.

Anyway I'll hit you up kilroy.

Double Post:
Also if it hasnt been mentioned yet, these are some VERY good sites you should use.

http://ffxi.somepage.com
http://ffxi.killvoid.com
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/
http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/

Killvoid and Alla can be laggy sometimes, those two are mainly a good recource for actual human feedback, as they work by forums. Somepage and Mysterytour are good kind of encyclopedias for the game. There are otehr sites out there for more specific stuff, but this is pretty much all the info you'll need.

I forgot to mention that once you hit around lvl 65-70ish you can join an HMNLS (Huge-Notorious-Monster-Linkshell), or in other words a huge guild that does cool stuff. There are varying degrees of these as well, some for noobs and some for vetrens. Anyway yeah, just xp dont worry too much bout money yet.

Shonos May 7, 2006 06:03 PM

Allakhazam isn't a good place for human interaction right now. After being bought out by Zam.com a large portion of the member base got angry and the forums still have not recovered from the bitching.

Something about the company also owning IGE and the company's CEO created IGE. So people think Allah sold out to the gil/gold/adena/whatever sellers.

I dont know the real truth, nor do I really care. All I know is that the forums have been full of alot of arguing, flaming, spam, and general bullshit. More than the usual amount.

Oh yeah, this is probably my bias speaking but I would be cautious about joining a HNMLS. It's very competitive and time consuming. Much more time consuming than what FFXI normally demands. Alot of guilds basicly want you to put the HNMLS above everything else. It's also a big magnet for drama and can ruin friendships.

On Titan I've had many good LSes fall apart because either alot of members went for endgame and ditched everyone or it fell apart trying to change into a HNMLS. Half of the people I knew completely changed and became stuck up asses who ignore you unless they need something. A mithra and elvaan comes to mind here but I'll keep thier names to myself. >_>

I've yet to find a good Endgame LS and have been heavily alienated from the scene because of what it does to some people. So I'm heavily biased. I'm sure there are some good ones. But I haven't found them yet. :P

Final Fantasy XI Windowed Mode?

Wasn't sure where to post this but figured this was a good place to start since this is a general question. Was wondering if there was a way to play this game in a windowed mode? My resolution for the game is 1600 x 1200.

Post merged from separate stand alone thread.

Shonos May 8, 2006 02:22 AM

FFXI doesn't have a windowed mode and SE doesn't want there to be one.

There is 3rd party software to force XI into a windowed mode but it is against the TOS. If anyone were to find out you could be banned.

Doesn't stop alot of people from using it though. It's really annoying having fullscreen forced on you.

You can get the windower here. > http://ffxi.archbell.com/

A warning. The windower tends to break with a large update to FFXI and now it seems the creator is moving on to other things. So if it breaks again it may not be fixed. The current version is kinna unstable itself now. But it still does what you need it to, window the game.

Soldier May 8, 2006 02:43 AM

Another good place is ffxionline.com. The midgar thread doesn't have much interaction though, but there's still plenty of other fun sections.
