1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest ( Kesey said the movie sucks, so i don't wanna see it. Plus Jack Nicholson Annoys the fuck outta me in most movies )
2. The Usual Suspects ( dislike Bryan Singer ) 3. Memento ( only saw bits and pieces, seemed blah to me ) 4. Sunset Blvd. ( never even heard of it before ) 5. Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, Le ( Indie kids embracing this film like it's their child has turned me off from ever wanting to see it ) 6. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind ( Jim carry has an awesome music taste, but i fuckin hate his movies. Plus Hipsters love this film. ) 7. Untergang, Der ( never heard of it ) 8. L.A. Confidential ( Can't tolerate Kim basinger ) 9. The Departed ( Haven't been to the theater in about 4 years ) 10. Million Dollar Baby ( no desire to see it as Clint will always be Blondie to me and i can't stand seeing act as a washed up old fogie ). I'm kinda disappointed to see that alot of classics are never viewed by alot of people. Jesus fuckin christ. No wonder Cinema these days is a cesspool of pure shit. |

#5: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
#6: Casablanca #7: Schindler's List #9: Seven Samurai #12: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest #13: Rear Window #15: 12 Angry Men #18: City of God #19: Dr. Strangelove #22: Psycho Most of these movies I've wanted to see, I've just never got around to it. My parents didn't really culture me on older movies. With having a Blockbuster Online subscription now, though, I plan on finally catching up on all this stuff sooner than later. |

Sepharite: Are you by chance under 15? That would explain a lot-- But more then that, LET ME ASK YOU THIS VERY VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION THAT WILL DETERMINE MANY MANY THINGS: Did you like the movie, "Alone In the Dark"? Just answer me that one simple question, and then we'll know exactly what kind of a person you are. --- Also, regarding my own list: Spoiler:

*Note to self: be exact in your descriptions* But I know the movie is quite good... and besides I'm not the end all authority of good/bad movies... whoever quotes and responds to this sentence probably contends themselves to be, which would be my guess. Double Post: Quote:

I'm just bitter with The Notebook because I was assured sex if I sat through it and didn't get any. :p

Anyway, enough about my ranting hate for The English Patient... Here's my list: 1. #6 Casablanca 2. #9 Shichinin no samurai (Seven Samurai) 3. #13 Rear Window 4. #18 Cidade de Deus (City of God) 5. #19 Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying... 6. #23 Citizen Kane 7. #24 C'era una volta il West (Once Upon A Time In The West) 8. #25 North By Northwest 9. #28 Lawrence of Arabia 10. #29 Sunset Blvd It seems I've seen quite a bit more movies than most here but I'm still lacking in some of the older films. Personally I'm really suprised to see The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly rated at #5. I mean, I liked the movie and all and thought it was great but I'd definitely have a very hard time trying to recommend it to anyone. Another interesting thing is to note how many movies there are on the list from 1999 - 2001, yet so few from after 2001. It really does make you sit and perhaps question the quality of films we've had put out the past few years. |

That isn't entirely true. I like some movies that are embraced by indie kids like wes anderson films and fulci films. From previews, indie hyping and word of mouth helped determine that such movies like Amélie and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind aren't my cup of tea. Then again are tastes are completely different in nearly everything and you probably think stuff that i enjoy like Kinski/Herzog and Kar Wai Wong are pure shit. I also don't see how many people don't care for City of God. It was probably one of the best movies i've seen in the past 5 years. |
3. 8.9 The Godfather: Part II (1974)
5. 8.8 Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966) 6. 8.8 Casablanca (1942) 9. 8.7 Shichinin no samurai (1954) 12. 8.7 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) 13. 8.7 Rear Window (1954) 15. 8.6 12 Angry Men (1957) 19. 8.6 Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) 22. 8.6 Psycho (1960) 23. 8.6 Citizen Kane (1941) Heh... I have Seven Samurai on DVD... it was a gift from a friend a couple years ago but I never actually watched it yet. :P |
#1 The Godfather
#3 The Godfather Part II #5 Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, il #6 Casablanca #9 Shichinin no samurai #12 One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest #13 Rear Window #15 12 Angry Men #17 The Usual Suspects #19 Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Atomic Bomb At the risk of sounding uncultured, I don't really have any interest in old black and white movies (I know Schindlers list is balck and white but itisnt in that old camp 50s style) and I certainly don't have a taste for gangstar films, hence the inclusion of the first two godfather films. |
#26 Mememto
#38 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind #40 Paths Of Glory #50 The Treasure of the Sierra Madre #58 Requiem for a Dream #59 Hotel Rwanda #69 Modern Times #75 All About Eve #82 Vita è bella, La #99 Notorious If it wasn't for the fact I'm studying for a degree in Film Studies I would say I've wasted my life. |
That list is wiggidy whack. The Sixth Sense is beat out by Finding Nemo...?

It really didn't appeal to me at all - I just saw a washed up point. What did you find appealing about it? I would appreciate it if you could tell me so maybe I can appreciate something MORE in the film. =/ |

The scene with the kids and the shooting is still one of the most painful scenes for me to watch to this day. |
#40 Paths of Glory (1957)
#42 To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) #44 Untergang, Der (2004) #51 Boot, Das (1981) #65 Rashômon (1950) #67 Sin City (2005) #69 The Manchurian Candidate (1962) #71 Aliens (1986) #76 The Departed (2006) #77 Touch of Evil (1958) Wow, I didn't know I had seen the top 39 on the list. Well, I need to see some of the ones on that list ... others I don't care for. And, just because someone else did an alternative list... I will too. This one will show that I haven't really seen that many of those movies rated "the best" by the directors and critics. #3 La Régle du jeu (Renoir) #5 Tokyo Story (Ozu) #6 2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick) #7 Battleship Potemkin (Eisenstein) #7 Sunrise (Murnau) #13 Rashomon (Kurosawa) #15 A bout de souffle (Godard) #15 L'Atalante (Vigo) #15 The General (Keaton) #15 Touch of Evil (Welles) So, I haven't seen 10 out of the top 18. Interesting thread idea. |

Nothing is going to change about that movie in the future. Sure, a couple weeks IS a bit new, but the past five years... I can't agree with that. I believe if a movie has been out for at least a couple of years and its still maintained its appeal and fan-base, then it belongs on that list. |
