Had fun battling Elixir last night (even though his FC changed..?)

I can see why he was angry though, if what you say is true. I did EV train all the pokes in my team when I battled him, and if what you say is true, then I can guess you can say it was a slaughter..

The reason why I started to play was to have fun with people, and instead, everybody I did get to play (this was way back when R/B/Y was out) I got beaten, badly. And this was why. So, through the years, whenever someone asked to play me, I would decline. Well, Pearl and Diamond come out, with online battling, and I'm like "Maybe I should play again" but this time, I decided to learn. So I decided to study how people got their pokemon to be so powerful, and stumbled upon EV and IV training, Hidden Power movetypes, etc. And here I am.

Is EV training pokemon really disliked around here?

what you do to him? Well anyways, you won't notice the big difference cause of Ev training til lvl 100. but you really don't have to train to 100, cause of the auto lvl up to 100 when battle online, this happened to me before when I forgot about my lvl manaphy that was in my party when I was battling someone at Poke Community and he was automatically leveled to 100, even though I didn't train it yet. Also some people go online to do battle lvl 100 to see there IV's (or DV's and IV's are the same) like the one guy in the pokemon channel I am in does so often. I do alot of pokemon breeding and most the time most of the ones I get suck. IV training takes awhile though. cause it involves, breeding takes forever, unless you have a poke with magma armor.

Oh yeah I.C. whats the speed of your Daactyl at 100? is it like 394?

Why would it be? There are a lot of standard clauses that are usually invoked for competitive battles, but they usually involve restricting certain species of Pokemon or certain moves. It's always good to train your Pokemon as well as you can.

In fact, before D/P brought online battling to the mainstream Pokemon fandom, people used to simulate battles online using NetBattle, and it was standard in those days to have the precise IVs and EV spread that would best suit your team.

If someone is complaining because of EV training, they are just being a sore loser. EV training is a pain in the ass, but it is a completely fair tactic. If someone doesn't have the time to EV train, then I suggest they either use NetBattle or possibly hack the desired EV spread on their Pokemon using an AR. As long as nothing else is changed, it's completely fair.

I just thought I should add that I do not actually hack EVs (or anything else) for competitive play.

It's only 358 despite that it's Jolly (it might as well be speed-neutral :p ). I think I set as much EV's into its Speed stat as I could (252), but I didn't really bother trying to get the perfect IV spread back in FR/LG. I may get around to raising another Aerodactyl later, but only if I have the time for it.

As far as I'm concerned, EV training is perfectly acceptable. It's another hoop to go through when raising a Pokemon, but it definitely pays off.

Oh yeah. Well, I knew about netbattle, tried it, lost. But now that I understand what the hell I'm doing, I have a few good teams to try. I found this really wacked out Ambipom today. Strat ensues:

Quote:

Last Resort

Ambipom@Life Orb
Technician
- Fake Out
- Last Resort
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 6 HP

Don't laugh, this works. First of all, Fake Out is now a base 90 first hit and 100% flinch attack that also gets x1.3 from Life Orb. Now, when you use Fake Out, it can't be used again while Ambipom is in play. Therefore, Last Resort become active, a base 195 move off a base 100 Attack with full EVs and a x1.3 boost. Not bad, eh? This is a set that CAN work and is better used late game to finish the opponent off. I've tried it and it works, and is quite effective as it takes the opponent by surprise.
I can't wait to try it out in a battle with someone. Anybody want to battle? I'm going to take a shower first, but I'll be ready all evening.

Rua Jun 25, 2007 07:32 PM

anytime you wish to thats fine. I'm usually up for a battle just ask or pm me.

RABicle Jun 26, 2007 11:15 PM

lol ^-^
me and Grub were discussing ways to get Last Resort going when we reaalised Snorlax learnt it. Making it the only move didn't work but that sounds awesome.

I found out that you can get the National dex before beating the the Elite 4, which is kind of interesting. Some things are triggered by it (like the Eevee Bebe gives you), but other things like Swarms and new Safari guys aren't available yet. Still, kind of cool.

I've overhauled my team since I didn't like my dependency on my #1-3 guys-- it only caused me a headache in my trial run through the Elite 4. I spent too much time flip-flopping between my choices for #4-6, so even the main guys were a bit low in level (64). I think my main problem was Lanturn. I love that guy's typing, but his Special Attack just wasn't good enough. So, here's the party I'm working on right now:

Marowak
Gallade
Lapras
Ampharos
Houndoom
Skarmory

Skarmory's sort of an odd choice considering most of the others are Underused, but I wanted a Steel type/tank and still needed a Flying pokemon (my other choice, Xatu, felt a bit redundant with Gallade and Psycho Cut). I'll probably come up with a backup in case of a UU Battle. Maybe Forretress or something.

Anyway, I'm feeling pretty good about that lineup, even if Houndoom seems iffy to me. Should be more than enough for the Elite 4, at least.

RABicle Jul 2, 2007 04:20 AM

By Christ. I reckon we should demote Wobbuffett's uber status. Now that Fling is in the fold. This was with a Shiftry, lvl 50 vs lvl 50 Wobbuffet. Fling, with an Iron Ball attached took off like 95% of Wobb's health. Wobbuffet didn't stand a chance it was fantastic.

You can make any pokemon have any number of moves (up to 4, of course.)

Use the move remover or whatever.

Wobb would of destroyed shiftry if it used destiny bond or if it had been countered, by wobbuffet's counter which would be x2 to shiftry, cause shiftry is x2 to fighting. Sides thats just one poke and not all pokes can run fling anyways and even if they can its either not in their best interest or their stats can't support it or they have better moves to pick from. Btw, who where you playing?

Slash Jul 3, 2007 07:14 PM

Just a spazzy lil question but is there any way that I can get the Fire and Grass starters from someone?

^-^ Jul 3, 2007 10:14 PM

Slash Jul 4, 2007 02:46 AM

Cool, what would be your friend code and when would a good time for you be?

RABicle Jul 7, 2007 11:16 PM

Hey guys anyone have a Shuckle they could spare me? You'd forever be my best friend! Don't care about it's nature or IVs or wahtnot cos lol, it's a Shuckle. i want it for it's shuckle-ness.

Also Crash I'm going to have to get that Metang off you BEFORE FRIDAY! I'll be stalking your movements and deleting Merv's SimCitys until we can trade :).

Identity Crisis Jul 8, 2007 12:11 AM

I can give you a spare Shuckle, RABicle. I'll need some time to breed one, but I should have it to you by the time 24 hours has passed (or I can PM you if I get it done sooner than that).

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 8, 2007 10:29 AM

Finally went and beat the Elite 4 the other day, clocked in at 217 hours (260 pokemon caught, 280 seen). Just too annoying to level in Victory Road, and I also wanted to get to Route 225 and nab Banette for my team and breed Will-o-Wisp onto a Ralts.

Nightofshadow Jul 11, 2007 07:50 AM

Im bored, Waiting for my 879787 programs to finish downloading/uploading and i need a match. So who is up for one =\

Kairyu Jul 12, 2007 09:59 PM

Geez did this thread come to a screeching halt. I wish I had something to talk about.
Oh wait, I did have a lv.50 doubles match against Dekoa yesterday. At first he had a unexpected advantage by having intimidate on a couple of his pokemon (Luxray and Staraptor.)
Luckily, I had a type advantage for pretty much two-thirds of the match and I used Toxic Spikes to eat away at his team's HP. Everything else was a vicious series of Earthquakes, Crunch attacks, Ice Beaming then following a victory for me. It was one-sided all right. So I'm up for a rematch if you are, Dekoa.

In which case I have nothing to do for maybe the next 5 or 6 hours. That means I'm open to being owned in any battle mode. Oh I even updated my trainer card so you know what pokemon to use =p.

No, only I am allowed to use Shuckle. Do you even know how ANNOYING it is to raise a Shuckle to level 100?

But seriously, if you've got the patience, you can do far worse in a fight than throwing a Shuckle at the enemy.

Chaotic Jul 12, 2007 11:10 PM

If anyone wants to, I can battle them in Battle Revolution...

I'd post in the actual thread, but it wouldn't update since I'm the last poster in that thread...

I'll have my Friend Code up soon.

PM me if you wanna battle.

Here it is:

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 14, 2007 02:39 PM

I'm running out of things to do in the main game, so I've been preparing to start EV training. Got the macho brace, been researching the best places for what stats you want to train, and finishing up the legendaries (so I don't have a distraction). Still need Mew, Entei, Raikou, and Rayquaza.

Which reminds me, if anyone wants to trade a level 100 Deoxys for a Mew, I'm down with that. As for battling, I'll take you guys on when I'm done EV training.

Chaotic Jul 14, 2007 07:06 PM

Well, I have a Mew from a friend, but he used an Action Replay to get it... I have about 3 of em... Two at Level 3 and one at Level 33... If you don't mind it being hacked, I could spare one for you and you wouldn't have to trade anything amazing in return.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 16, 2007 01:42 PM

That would be really, really awesome. What would you be looking for?

I also just finished EV training my first pokemon-- my shiny Furret, to be exact. The stat up items are a lifesaver with their being an easy 100 EVs, but the whole process is ridiculously slow if you don't have both Pokerus and one of those EV boosting items. Now I'm going to get serious and train my Skarmory. No one here milks IVs, right?

Chaotic Jul 16, 2007 02:08 PM

Nothing in particular really. You know me, I'm the nice guy who gives stuff away for almost nothing. Although, if you have a spare Sitrus Berry, I could use one of those to mass breed around Sinnoh. I used the only one I had T_T.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Jul 16, 2007 03:38 PM

Yeah, Sitrus is no problem. I can do two or three, if you want! You still need any pokemon? I have quite a few now, so.
