I only heard Thunder Perfect Mind and All the Pretty Little Horses. I liked the former a lot, but the latter had a few somewhat annoying moments. Like parts where it's just weird noise, or speeches, or things like that.

Guys, I'm out of town, I don't have my metal music with me, and I'm craving for some great metal right now. Do any of you know of a good METAL streaming site. :(

guyinrubbersuit May 17, 2007 08:06 PM

I sometimes just browse around Live365. It's kind of hit and miss there though.

Vemp May 18, 2007 08:01 AM

I just found Warrior Radio on Live365. They play most of the stuff I listen to, it's pretty neat! Thanks, rubberguy!

guyinrubbersuit May 18, 2007 11:51 PM

No problem Vemp!

I picked up Nevermore - The Politics of Ecstasy and Becoming the Archetype - The Physics of Fire. Pretty good stuff. Nevermore is self explainatory while Becoming the Archetype is a progressive death metal band that kind of reminds me of Disilluion. I'm definitely digging it.

Revival ~

Just to state I'm totally addicted to Taake's Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmerik. I've had that album for quite a while, but it's greatness clearly appeared to me only recently. Complex yet catchy, atmospheric yet brutal, melancholic yet joyful and constantly folkish ... a perfect symbiosis of everything I love in Black Metal. <3

I saw Emperor on Sunday and it was awesome. The two opening bands were pretty good, I was really impressed with Abysmal Dawn. I have to check out more of them.

Though for Emperor while it was awesome, I wished the set list was mixed up a bit playing more from Prometheus and some lesser played stuff from their earlier albums. Overall a good show.

Whow! I'm again amazed at how much of a gold mine in terms of getting ideas of what to listen to next this thread is.
Guess now I'll have to invest some dough in Symphony X. *_*
And I'd like giving Suspyre a listen... Not easy to find over here it seems...

Schadenfreude Jun 17, 2007 02:37 PM

I feel like downloading/buying/checking out some power metal bands and albums. Any suggestions?

I'm not really keen on huge/bombastic/epic orchestral/keyboard sections though.

Tough one for me since that's what I like in Power Metal. xD

Try some Wuthering Heights and tell me what you thought. I'd recommend Far from the Madding Crowd. =3

Schadenfreude Jun 18, 2007 05:11 AM

I'll check 'em out.

Also, there's something really enjoyable about late 80's - early 90's Scandinavian death metal.

niki Jun 18, 2007 05:36 AM

Even early Darkthrone does little to me. ='(

Schadenfreude Jun 18, 2007 05:50 AM

I prefer later Darkthrone, for some reason. Probably because of the more punk/rock-ish sound they have now. I really like their Transilvanian Hunger and Panzerfaust albums, though. tr00 and kvlt and etcetc

Try Sabaton - Primo Victoria or Attero Dominatus for power metal with balls, or Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction (Decade of the Nail-Spiked Bat also works), The Age of Mastery, Thane to the Throne or Mechanized Warfare.

Also if you already know/like Jag Panzer and Control Denied, I recommend Pharaoh - The Longest Night. Good stuff.

Schadenfreude Jun 20, 2007 11:45 AM

Alright, thanks! I'm quite sure I've heard some Jag Panzer tracks before, good shit.

Woo, just bought Dream Theater tickets for October and apparently Symphony X are guests at all their shows.

I don't like Symphony X. :( How do I fix this?

niki Jun 20, 2007 12:18 PM

Listen to Out of the Ashes over and over.

Also, digging Sabaton. =p

Morrigan Jun 22, 2007 04:24 PM

Symphony X >>>>>>>>>> Dream Theater. ;) Got my tickets for their July show. I wonder if they'll play many new songs... probably. I didn't get into the new Sym X album much, alas.

Additional Spam:
Oh and niki, I just noticed your custom title. Awesome.

Vemp Jun 26, 2007 12:58 PM

Hey guys, Eluveitie is freaking awesome!

**Hidden Content**

I think they're a lot better than Cruachan in terms of metal/celtic music fusion.

niki Jun 27, 2007 09:47 AM

But then again Cruachan isnt very good. =p

In other news, I've just discovered Triglav, and anyone feeling like listening to some new folky synth driven Ukrainian Black Metal should listen to them. =p

@ Morrigan: <3 Aria

Morrigan Jun 27, 2007 07:01 PM

It's ARYA, stupid! :D

niki Jun 28, 2007 04:00 AM

haha right been a while. It also sounds the same way, in French. xD

While we're talking about French, here is some random fact. Taake pronounces to "ta queue" which basically translates to "your dick". That makes for quite clumsy musical conversations ...

Oh God I love Taake !
wut!? Oh ...

:(

The Morrigan's Call is a kickass album, particularly when you consider how hard the few CDs before it sucked.

Reeeaaaally didnt like it. I even prefer their earlier ones, actually. =/

guyinrubbersuit Jun 28, 2007 07:33 PM

I just heard Equilibrium on Extreme Metal Sounds and it was pretty damn awesome. Anyone into them? I'll have to get some of their stuff. They're described as epic folk/viking metal.
