I mean, we're not smashboards here. :/

As I said, feel free to disagree with me. If the people of the boards want items on, so be it.

If so, we can designate which items stay on or whatever. It's all about what all of you want to do so we can make this clan system work.

I don't disagree with the whole round-robin thing, but my question is, where will clan creation come into play? Before, or after? And how many clans do we plan to have?

There's 49 friend codes on the Wiki at this point in time. It would work having 7 people per clan so we are all distributed equally (of course, that's if everyone signs up). Since there would be seven clans in the league, one clan would get a bye each week in the match-ups.

If everyone is in agrees to have clans running here, we'll run a sign-up thread for everyone who wants to participate. When the final tally is in, we'll determine how many teams must be made and how many top spots we're gonna have.

Since we're gonna have clan leaders, should we just make this into some sort of draft? I want to avoid that as much as possible, but if the pieces fall that way, so be it.

As for now, we'll just see what happens and see if everyone wants this to begin with.

I'd be somewhat interested, but I'm almost certain I'd get my ass handed to me, but whatever. My schedule's also rather tight because of school. I only have, possibly Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to do this.

Freelance Mar 17, 2008 06:46 AM

Ever since I got Brawl I've always wanted to do a tournament/clan thing, so sign me up :D

1 on 1 is fine. 2 on 2 could get laggy, depending on who's playing. The majority of my 4 player matches weren't laggy though, which is good.

'Cause of work, however, I can't have my matches too late. Anywhere between 9:30 to 11 EST is fine, although there are some days where I can't play.

Chaotic Mar 17, 2008 07:34 AM

This is why each match up will last about a week. You can arrange a time that's comfortable to both you and your opponent.

Does anyone else find it weird that Brawl was only released last week? Seems like we've been playing it forever with all this discussion going on. <_<

nuttyturnip Mar 17, 2008 08:02 AM

I'd sign up, although like others, I have very limited time during the week. Plus, my internet randomly decides to blink on and off some nights, so that adds to the fun.

FatsDomino Mar 17, 2008 08:04 AM

Clan matches would be excellent if we could figure out how to solve this lag issue. I may buy that Ethernet adapter. My Wii is set to be on DMZ already so there shouldn't be anything else I can do. I think I might call the IT department and ask them to open up certain ports that would be better for gaming with consoles online. I mean it is very well possible that I might have been the cause for those laggy games but it seems just about everyone is having lag so I dunno.

Well, the round robin type thing would happen before.

And i guess the clan number depends on how many people actually want to do it lol

nuttyturnip Mar 17, 2008 09:55 AM

The lag seems to be getting better for me every day. The first few matches I played were lag-crazy, but this weekend almost every match I connected to had little or no lag. WAMBO (whoever he is) was the exception. The first match was fine, then the second match, with the same people, was the worst match lag-wise I've seen so far. I have to think that a lot of this lag is more Nintendo's fault than ours.

quazi Mar 17, 2008 10:05 AM

I'd be interested, but as it stands now I'm not entirely sure how to get my Wii connected to the internet at college. It'll probably involve bringing it in to the IT center to get it's MAC address registered and other annoyances. I'll try to get it done soon, but I'm under a mound of work all of a sudden.

nazpyro Mar 17, 2008 10:23 AM

What? A tournament? In March? It's MARCH SMASHNESS! (Or SMASH MADNESS...)

I'd be down for a tourney with these "clans" or whatnot. I'll be out of town later this week though and the weekend, so I'll trust you guys to decide on the rules/clans/gameplay/etc for it. I actually had another style of tournament in mind (a 32-player single elimination best-of-series tournament preceded by a 4-round season of tournament-style 4-player FFA brawling for seeding... but more on that later), but I was gonna wait a few weeks for networks issues to settle, for people to become more familiar with the game/unlock everything (some of us have jobs you know), and for even more people to get the game.

As for a clan, Team MD is already strong. We could even easily align ourselves with neighboring Team VA. I'm sure Team Devin is already one and done even before it begun since RockgamerXIII doesn't even have a Wii (epic fail lol). I'm also open to joining Team Flip... sup SM, Chaotic.

True. :tpg:

Chaotic Mar 17, 2008 10:47 AM

It's just an idea at the moment, I just wanna make sure everything is right in the world before we start this.

Of course, it's only been one week since release, I'm probably not gonna start this until next month or something.

Just to make sure, is everyone alright with the 4 stock, 8 minute rule? There are some quick things I want to set in stone even before sign-ups. <_<

Secondly, which stages would be available for choice. I'll probably run a poll later to see what everyone wants to use. Putting my hand down now, I want Temple, Big Blue, and New Pork City banned from play. I can't stand any of those stages.

And naz, Team SM for the win. All else fails, we choose a name out of the PBA... (like Team Purefoods Tender Juicy Giants :tpg:)

In the meantime while stuff is being planned out for this, wouldn't hurt to just have a normal tournament so we can do MARCH SMASHNESS.

Seems more like a month + to me. :D *hides*

I was actually thinking about this earlier. I know that Wolf has a sister and you have a brother, and either one of you two would probably ask me about it sooner or later.

I'll just make the rule they have to be registered members of GFF so I at least have a name to put down when it comes to clan arrangement. If anyone thinks it should be done differently, toss the idea up.

On a completely random note, best shoes ever.

But we'd also need to clear it up with the mods about "dupe" accounts if they register.

Sacred X Mar 17, 2008 12:12 PM

I'm up for the idea, though I really need to make a GFWiki account to add myself. >_<

I don't mind Temple much, but a ban is a ban. New Pork City... I despise that stage with great intensity.

Oh well. I don't know how many people you have on your list, but mind if I add you Chaotic?

quazi Mar 17, 2008 12:18 PM

OK, I've managed to get my Wii on the network (was easier than I initially thought), but I want to play a few games on it to gauge how laggy it is. My school isn't very generous with bandwidth.

Omnislash124 Mar 17, 2008 12:21 PM

I suppose I'm part of the minority that loves large stages over small ones. Temple was my favorite stage in Melee. I like New Pork City too, but whatever.

I'd be interested in joining, but I'm going to say it now that it sucks for whichever clan ends up with me, because I'm not very good against human players. (I like exploiting AI, though. ^_^)

:tpg: Yeaaaa I'm down for that!

New Pork City would be fine... if the camera didn't suck so much. Thus, still no.
None of the autoscroll stages (Jungle Japes (Brawl), Mushroomy Kingdom).
I'm against the 8-bit stages Mario Bros and 75m.
Everything else is pretty much fine, with no other glaring issues at the moment.

We should just avoid every match ending up on Final Destination, because as the issue has been raised across previous incarnations and JUS, as fair as a perfectly flat stage without platforms seems, that in itself holds a hidden disadvantage.

Win.

Anyway, I don't mind Temple or New Pork City, but they're kinda lame to fight on 1v1. Love the New Pork City track though. The only stages I really hate are 75m (stupid flying trampolines) and Spear Pillar (at least until I stop getting powoonéd by the stage's gimmicks).

Holy bananas, I need those shoes.

SimDaddyGT Mar 17, 2008 12:56 PM

Time to test my skills against GFF members. I've done so much battling with the same people over and over all weekend at a tournament/lock-in, I need some new faces to brawl with.

If anyone's up for a fight over the next couple hours (til at least 5pm CST), hit me with a PM.

EDIT: Okay, apparently scratch that. Idle's network hates my Wii. Maybe another time.

SuperSonic Mar 17, 2008 01:09 PM

I'm in for this whole clan thing and the tourney stuff as well, but everyone already knows which character I'm gonna be. XD

immp Mar 17, 2008 01:15 PM

Concerning items in tourny play... the way me and my friends have always delt with it is with picks and counter picks. Each person picks one item to be on and one to be off, if another person chose to have an item off that you chose to have on, you get a counter pick item. Might be a pain to set all that up for every match but its just an idea.
I'm in for this clan thing if time allows it...and someone adds me to the wiki.

28Link Mar 17, 2008 01:20 PM

Dammit! I really want to join in on this tourney, but unfortunately I won't be able to play from May to mid-August. T_T

I'd be happy to play anyone 1v1 before May though.

As a side note, whenever I use Ike's side-B, I keep on expecting him to do Dante's Dance Macabre move. Been playing too much DMC3, I suppose. =P

Also, who else hates it when their character trips up? It's kinda getting on my nerves.

Summonmaster Mar 17, 2008 01:38 PM

Regarding tripping, just sometimes. I'll express my disbelief when I dash at the opponent for a certain-hit dash attack when my character will clumsily fall and screw it up. Then again, I've gotten the golden squeaky hammer twice, so I chalk it up to "it's part of what happens in this kind of game."

You could probably tell Miles about it just so he could clear it up with the mods. Since he's participating in this whole thing, he'll understand.
