Just finished Saga Frontier earlier, my my it was an awesome game (nostalgia) Thinking of another PS1 game to play (Legend of dragoon is :(, FF7 is quite boring... Should i try Suikoden 1?)

Or what good PSP game out there, Super Robot Taisen MX portable is okay, but the loading is bad.

I'm not really into puzzle game and game that are somewhat like tetris are even more boring for me... I tried the demo and I wasn't impress at all.

At least if I don't like it more than the demo I know that I still have a good reason to keep it...

great. it seem that this game is either rare or because of the new exploit the game is selling at high price... lucky me, I found a little video games store close to my house that sell it brand new for 15$ :p

Tails Jun 28, 2007 01:20 PM

Yeah, I've had Lumines since I first got my PSP. Pretty awesome game, just like everyone says.

I just need a bigger memory stick now so I can load insane amounts of shit on it.

Inhert Jun 28, 2007 03:11 PM

well I just downgraded and install the custom firmware 3.04 OE-A and even if I didn't really had time to test it, I pretty please by it. I just played xenogears on my psp and I have to say that I'm impress by the emulation!

I'll continue to test this out more tonight ^^

LS Jun 28, 2007 07:03 PM

I heard xenogears crap out at the middle which is :3

I'm thinking of doing another saga frontier round (Maybe Red or Emelia's story)

Oh man Dark_Alex should come out with a fix soon, bcz <3 I've managed to get Resident Evil 2 working (actually finished both scenarios) If only they can fix Chrono Cross and Suikoden 2, all PSP popstation users would surely have an orgasm.

Jochie Jun 29, 2007 01:44 AM

Aww, I am the sadness if Suikoden II doesn't work. I just started Suikoden, finally. I think there's some kind of glitch because the background looked all crazy during one early scene in the game that I think was supposed to take place at night. If these games didn't cost a cockjillion dollars, I'd just buy them. Being able to play PSX games on PSP is so cool, but now that I've gotten it to work, I can't really think of any other games I want to play.

I can't get the PSPradio thing to work for some reason. Maybe I need that dev-something thing. Man, the internet does not try to make PSP emulation/homebrew easy to understand. I had about 30 different folders of downloaded programs for this and that and I-don't-know-what all over my desktop, and it took me pretty much all day to figure out how to run Suikoden. My brain hurts and lacks the energy to play it now.

So what else can the PSP do? I gather there's some way to emulate other systems like SNES and so forth, but I haven't wrapped my tired brain around that yet. Are there any homebrew programs that will make my PSP wash dishes for me?

Inhert Jun 29, 2007 02:45 AM

lol yeah I was a little confuse at first but in all it was pretty easy to downgrade and install the custom firmware. As for ps1 emulation you just need to convert the iso in eboot format and put it in the game folder that wasn't really hard. Now what drove me crazy today was that I downloaded ace combat X wanted to play it so bad but the iso is bigger than my 1gb memory stick T-T I guess i'll need a bigger one XD but I found a way to play iso via usb so now I'm enjoying it and it's awesome! I really don,t know how i could have miss all those thing with my psp >.<

Render Jun 30, 2007 09:54 PM

A generic question... Is there a custom firmware (maybe a Dark_Alex custom firmware) that will let me run videos at the full 480x272 from the memory stick?

Also, my current firmware 3.11.

Solis Jul 1, 2007 12:14 AM

All firmwares at or above 2.80 (official and custom) allow for full resolution 480x272 videos. Xvid4psp does a great job converting them.

Render Jul 1, 2007 02:05 AM

I can't seem to get videos at 480x272 to play back. I did a test using 3GP Converter to recode a Lucky Star episode down to both 480x272 and 368x208. Only the 368x208 video would play and I used the same settings for conversion.

Should I update my firmware? And does any firmware version support h.264 video?

Rock Jul 1, 2007 07:24 AM

Solis is wrong, 480x272 video playback is supported since 3.03 OE-A custom or 3.30 official. H.264 (AVC) is supported ever since firmware 2.0.

I second using XviD4PSP for the conversion, though.

Solis Jul 1, 2007 12:43 PM

Ah sorry, my mistake, thought it was 2.80 that the feature was added.

Well you might as well update to 3.50 then. You'll get the benefit of the extra features and still retain the ability to downgrade (through the Lumines exploit) if you wish. Or you can just upgrade to 3.40oe straight away, your choice.

For Xvid4psp, I'd suggest using the 2-pass ultra setting. You can usually get good quality out of it that way even with lower bitrates (I use 256kbps for 4:3 content and 320kbps for widescreen content).

Render Jul 1, 2007 01:12 PM

Thanks a bunch, guys! :)

I guess I lied. Some more questions. :s

Is it possible to simply upgrade to 3.40OE from 3.11? A few forums have very conflicting answers.

Also, what are these "Sony updaters" referenced in the firmware's readme file? Could I maybe get a link to the files: 150.PBP and 340.PBP?

Sepharite Jul 1, 2007 03:38 PM

So you have official 3.11? The only way to downgrade at the moment, as Solis stated, is upgrading to 3.5 (NOT 3.51, just to make sure) and using the Lumines exploit to 1.5. Then you can upgrade to any OE firmware. (Meaning, you can't upgrade to an OE firmware. You might damage your PSP or your PSP wouldn't allow the updater to run.)

And the update files can be found here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/category/36

When you download them, there'll both be EBOOT.PBP, you'll have to rename them.

From PSP Updates:
Quote:

More news from the PSP homebrew front. Mathieulh has explained on the Devsgen PSP forums that Sony has included an official ISO loader in PSP firmware versions 3.50 and 3.51. The loader is called np9660.prx and will apparently let PSP users load ISO files off their memory sticks.

The first explanation that comes to mind regarding the official ISO loader is that Sony is planning to release downloadable PSP titles either through PSN or a similar service geared exclusively for the PSP. The company has already mentioned earlier this year that a download service for the PSP is in the works.

French PSP news site PSP-Generation also notes that Dark AleX and Mathieulh will be patching the np9660.prx file for use in custom firmware 3.51 OE.
An official ISO loader?

I know this is far fetched, but how sweet would it be if Sony just said 'fuck it', and will now let people legally play ps1 games that they already own. Probably is meant solely for the purpose of downloadable content, but I can dream. Interesting, nonetheless.

Solis Jul 1, 2007 04:36 PM

There was also supposedly evidence of a video-out feature possibly being included in future firmwares. I'm guessing the ISO loader will have some sort of DRM restrictions, but it would allow for digital distribution of PSP titles, which could certainly make the system more attractive since you could literally download and play PSP games from anywhere (assuming they use some sort of web interface through the PSP instead of requiring a PS3 to do it)

Alternatively, maybe it's simply an easier way for them to allow for content to be cached on the memory stick like Tekken Dark Ressurrection allows (since letting developers just dump the contents of the disc onto the memory stick would be the easiest solution).

Slayer X Jul 1, 2007 04:38 PM

Well as long as the code is there and someone can make a program that rips PS1 games and packs them as PSP PS1 games, there's no reason why it wouldn't work. Also if it works on the PSP it should also work on the PS3.

Really though I'm surprised that I haven't seen people distributing PS1 and PSN games over the net yet, because you should be able to simply transfer them back & forth using a custom unix code, no hacking needed.

Hell the WarHawk Beta could be downloaded and played by anyone with a downloaded version from over the net, so why hasn't this happened yet?

Well I guess there's still lots of time for this stuff to come out. It just can't come soon enough that's all.

Rock Jul 2, 2007 12:59 AM

What's this talk about using the ISO loader to play PS1 games on your PSP? That's already been done, folks!

Besides, this mystery ISO loader is probably going to wind up just like the Skype plugin that was discovered in the firmware. Unused.

Slayer X Jul 2, 2007 09:00 AM

The skype could still be in the pipelines netwoprk wise or something. Either way, it'll probably be a Korean only feature or something because most places in North America still don't have access points.

The ISO thing was talk of having an official update and playing custom ripped PS1 games on a PSP. So not quite the same as you were thinking, but similar.

Chrono Cross works as of fw 3.30. I played and finished both discs, 4+ different saves.

Dark_Alex quitting the PSP Homebrew scene? This is the statement on his homepage:

Quote:

Bye, scene.

I've decided to cease OE development, and leave PSP scene.
The reasons are various.
One of them is the time it consumes, which i'm losing from other things.
The other is related to my security. I didn't like Sony menaces to PS3 hackers.
I think it is better to leave now rather than end paying the consequences.

( ) Cruel joke
( ) Website h4xx0red omfg?!!\
( ) Sony won

You decide!

Inhert Jul 2, 2007 03:40 PM

bleh just when I finally downgrade for a custom firmware that he stop development... I guess I'll just return to the official firmware if this is true...

Rock Jul 2, 2007 03:53 PM

People are forgetting the fact that there are other people working on (other) custom firmwares. And if push comes to shove, we still have DevHook. Don't get me wrong, if this turns out to be true, the homebrew scene is losing a key figure. It's just that the idea of custom firmwares will not die with DA.

What are you talking about? Just upgrade to 3.30OE then. You'll have your custom firmware and pretty much most games will run on it.

lol, going back to a legit firmware after downgrading, what a waste of time.

Inhert Jul 2, 2007 04:56 PM

I'm already on 3.40OE, for now it will be ok but later I don't know...

because as for now the only thing I really use about this custom firmware is playing iso PSP games. The ps1 emulation is nice but I prefer playing them on a PC emulation...

I guess I'll just wait and see how this goes...
