Haha fuck Sazh has the BEST VOICE.
|
"Carbuncle's so adorable! I wanna get the plushy!"
I lawl at the fact they slipped that one into the trailer. |
Is it just me or did the female speech at the start sound kinda Aussie?
This hover craft and fireworks scene is just a developmental prototype. Stay tuned for boomerang-riding amidst a scarlet dust storm. |
Yeah the opening is very poor and I highly dislike the Irish accent (or whatever it is) of the dark haired woman at the end.

A bunch of annoying sounding American teenagers in an epic battle against a load of posh British guys, how very original. One of the reasons I hate FFXII's voice work slightly less than most of the others is that only a couple of the characters are whiny Americans, whereas the whole party seem to be voiced by rejects from Nickelodeon in this trailer. I really hope there's a Jap voices with subtitles option in this.

But yeah, unless that interview changed his life there's no plan to include the Japanese voice work. Which makes me a saaaaad panda. Final Fantasy X's laughing sequence bad? Maybe not, but approaching. Everything is simply an asymptote approaching that level of awkwardness. |

I think the current benchmark for crappy Square choices of voice actor is Rush's inncessant "Let's kick some A" throughout Last Remnant. At least though you could put a different leader in charge of the union and he'd shut the fuck up and there's a broad range of different voice types in the game rather than just Mouseketeers. Vaan and Penelo are pretty fucking annoying in XII but Balthier and Fran are hilarious, half the cast are British and there's relatively little actual voice acting, plus I mainly played through the game with the sound off anyway. FFX is painful as every time Tidus or Wakka speak it makes you want to smash their faces in, until that is you recruit that bint with the swirly eyes whose voice is so bad it makes the two homos sound relatively pleasant by contrast.
The problem of course is that being British, I find it harder to identify with American voices and having teenage American characters throw reams of high pitched, oddly pronounced speech at me is a real turn off in terms of giving a fuck what happens to the characters which tends to ruin a story. I think I would have enjoyed FFX far, far more if there had been no voice acting in it at all. Japanese voices would be preferable to me because I can't understand what they're saying so dodgy pronounciation won't grate. The accent itself is less annoying than weird emphasis on certain words. |
On the bright side, they seem to have changed/fixed the character lip-flaps for the English trailer. It seems that for the first time, the characters are actually going to LOOK like they're saying what they're saying.
...If that made any sense. |
Actually I think they probably just modified the script of the English release to have the same number of syllables as the Japanese.
I hope they didn't miss a beat somewhere or it's going to be awkward haiku for a few hours. |
They said that they were going to redo the lips-synch for the English version, but that probably only apply to the in-game cinematic. CG cut-scene will probably stay with the Japanese synch and they will like you said, modified the script to work with the Japanese lips-synch.
|
Either way, it looks better than say, FFX.
Tidus: "This is my story." ...Except it looks like he's saying "I'm a fucking douchebag." |
Or just whack the Japanese on the blu-ray please? >_> Yeah, you have to "compress" it and "lose audio quality"...minor inconveniences, pah.
|
I'm at least partially convinced that if they put the JP audio on the English version they'd lose sales on their INTERNATIONAL FINAL SUPERMEGAMIX version that they'll no doubt sell at full price to the Japanese 4 months after releasing the original.
|
the only reason they said they won't put both dub on the sp3 version is that they want both the 360 and ps3 version to have all the same feature. They are aiming for the 360 version to be 3dvd so there's no way they are able to include all the Japaneses tracks...

I'm pretty sure they could do it on both console, that whole thing is just saying: "we are too fucking lazy to do it and want to make some money on the international version that will come out 4 months later" ...
|
How hard can it be, just add god damn Japanese audio or w/e. It's not like they have to rerecord the damn thing.
|
Actually I wouldn't mind too much if there was an option to cut out voice acting altogether and just have subtitles. I'll probably play most of the game with the sound off anyway to be honest as I tend to play games in the same room as my girlfriend is watching tv and I only bother getting out the headphones for games where the audio is essential, i.e. not rpgs.

yeah, for real Shin. Who here didn't have a moment of embarrassment when someone normal walked in on us right when Sora embraced Riku, or when Tidus was laughing unconvincingly? I think it would be less embarrassing if I was caught watching He-Man episodes.
