As soapy has said, better late than never, but being early is almost always better, depending on how bad you want the CE. I would be willing to kill flies (okay, not a major sacrifice, but you get my drift) to get the CE. I just did the easy way and put down my $5. You'll get a receipt that shows you've put down $5, so obviously bring that receipt with you on release day and it's deductable against the purchase price. I might pop in the night before to see if they have any LE walkthrough guides available. I'll have to restrain myself from opening it up though, lest I accidentally flip to the last few pages and spoil the damn thing even before I get the game. That would suck ass.

Rei no Otaku Aug 10, 2006 12:37 PM

I don't see why more people don't preorder. If you change your mind you can get your money back. If you know you're going to be buying the game, put the $5 down. Not only do you make sure you get your own copy, but preorders let a store know how popular a game is. Therefore you increase the amount of copies available for others.

Freelance Aug 10, 2006 01:25 PM

Well, my reason for not pre-ordering games is because there's no reason to do so. I live in a big city, so I can always get the game on opening day when I go to stores. They always order a lot of copies.

I can understand pre-ordering if you live in a small town, so getting the game isn't always guaranteed if you have smaller store sizes.

soapy Aug 10, 2006 01:27 PM

This isn't true this time, but usually our local EB or Gamestop will give you some kind of bonus thing if you pre-order. Either an artbook, poster, cd etc... too bad FFXII doesn't come with any of those. It all depends on the store though, which is why I like pre-ordering because I get free stuff :)

But then doesn't that mean that there will be more people that will also buy it? I wouldn't worry so much for the regular edition, but the CE, well, I personally like to be on the safe side.

It's your call.

well they replace the free stuff by the limited edition, which is a EB/gamstop only offer...(now they make money with what they were giving free in pre-order before XD)

Exactly. I don't live in a small town either, and usually the EBs and GSs around me get more than enough copies. I still see no reason not to preorder something if you're going to buy it anyway. You lose absolutely nothing. Not to mention if something happens you're still all set. Final Fantasy X is a good example. A limited amount of it was released early, and those people who had preordered it early enough got those copies. And yet another example was the MGS3 Subsistance limited edition.

Hachifusa Aug 10, 2006 05:21 PM

Would it be a smart move to pre-order FFXII directly from the main site?

Because having it shipped to my house on release date would be pretty fucking awesome.

Freelance Aug 10, 2006 06:01 PM

I guess it really all depends on where you live. There's only been TWO instances where a game was actually sold out on opening day, but a quick trip to another game store solved that issue.

That said, I've never actually felt the need to pre-order anything. The only game I've ever done so was LoZ: Wind Waker, but that wasn't my decision to make anyway.

However, I believe I will pre-order FFXII, mainly because I'm worried more people will be getting that instead of the normal edition, and I don't want to miss out.

We rest our case. :)

Simo Aug 10, 2006 07:43 PM

Generally I never used to preorder games as I never felt there was really a need either but on several occasions been burned while trying to seek out a title in an EB store and get the now usual "Oh that game? Yeah we have plenty of copies, did you preorder?...No? Oh well sorry we only have enough to fulfill preorders" from the clerks.

Since then I've usually had alot of good luck with EB/GameStop's online stores where if you choose overnight shipping then often they'll ship the game before the release/ship date so they'll actually arrive on your doorstep the Tuesday of release. I didn't go with the overnight option with FFXII though, I figured waiting a few more days at that time won't be no problem compared to the other 4+ years of waiting for the game. :)

By the way have any of you checked out the official site lately? They've finally managed to open the "full site" although some of the content is still slim but best of all is a high quality version of the E3 English VO trailer:
http://www.finalfantasyxii.com/

The English dub sounds really, really solid.

Soldier Aug 10, 2006 10:11 PM

I have issues with streaming content from official sites, so if anyone rips the high quality trailer, please post it here.

Zeta26 Aug 11, 2006 02:35 AM

Soldier, I think you've seen it before. It was posted on the Game Trailers site and Youtube a while back. That is the same trailer that is on the site.

Soldier Aug 11, 2006 02:44 AM

Yes, but that trailer wasn't a direct link, but recorded off the TV, so the sound was hard to make out (the video quality suffered a bit too). The trailer in the official site would inarguably be in better quality.

Simo Aug 11, 2006 05:22 PM

You could always download the FLV file itself and just grab an easy FLV player to play the movie.

You can get the FLV file here:

Also while you can't view the wallpapers on the site they are on the server:

Regular boxart revealed for the US version:

As expected, the usual "Photoshop all your press assets into one messy image" boxart that plagues alot of US covers.

Collector's Edition FTW!!! :edgarrock:

Clon Aug 11, 2006 10:11 PM

The Regular Edition box looks pretty neat but I'm not really sure if it's real, the judge is missing from the logo. Which seems pretty weird...but who knows. : P

Also for the last wallpaper, I THINK they made a mistake..."Shori" isn't white in Japanese, it's "Shiroi".

Fuck up of FF boxart, as per usual. It's not as bad as I feared, actually, - no where near as bad as the FFX NA boxart. Still, it's basically your photoshop of some dudes and airships LOL. Yes, CE FTW!

Inhert Aug 12, 2006 01:20 AM

I'm sure it's fake just because the logo is not there...

well ebgames seem to use it, but I don't know it's so weird that there's no logo...that or it's like a "beta" anyway I already pre-order the CE so no problem for that XD

Motsy Aug 12, 2006 01:49 AM

That's actually pretty good; best US FF cover since VIII. But yeah, CE all the way.

Inhert Aug 12, 2006 01:55 AM

well FFX one what ok, just tidus artwork + logo it's like just logo on white for me . but yeah it's a pretty decent cover...

FFXI expension pack CoP and ToAU are pretty good cover too (amano artworks like the jp version I think)

well anyway I really want to see if it will be real or not, the logo of FFXII is pretty big so I could see why they didn't include it, but they could have put it on a corner I don't know...

You DO all realize that this might very well be the cover for the case INSIDE the CE, right?

Aside from Ashe and Fran's heads, I think it's a pretty cool cover. But again, I really wish Square would make like the FFXI expansion covers and have someone like Amano illustrate a cool boxart. Gives the game a classier look instead of reusing promotional CG.

And Simo, that player did the trick (and the voice acting really shines now that it's direct feed), but is there a way to set the movie to fullscreen?

Um....no~. The CE box is the tin case; this is the regular boxart, duder.

Andrew Evenstar Aug 12, 2006 02:11 AM

I think that boxart of FFXII sucks, yes CE for teh win. Anyways, FFXII seems so old to me since I played through it when it came out. Good / great game. I can't wait to go through it again. Great music too.

Inhert Aug 12, 2006 02:23 AM

yeah the english voice acting sound really great! one thing that bother me, is that in the traile you can see that the english voice match with the lips-synch, I just hope that they did this to the whole game and not just this trailer to make good impression. I suspect that they either try a lot to match the text to the japanese lyps-synch or maybe they did like FFX-2 and remade the scene that use the "full mouth motion" to match the english text.

well anyway at least the voices are really good!

Andrew Evenstar Aug 12, 2006 02:35 AM

Yeah that's one thing I'm looking forward to, the awesome voice acting :)
