As part of the four-year contract a host of new features will be available for the handheld, enabling it to make video and voice calls over the Internet using BT's already-established broadband services. David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, said: "It is very exciting for us to be partnering with BT on such a unique project. The opportunity to combine our market leading expertise with BT's knowledge in communications opens up many possibilities and we look forward to bringing many exciting communication functions to PSP fans."

Hahaha, PSP has become the new N-Gage. Get ready for more side-talking.

At least the PSP has games worth playing and is a standard screen ration and don't make up their own. Sure it's no DS when it comes to sales, but the DS ain't no PSP when it comes to console games on the go. Even if you do need to pack a car battery.

Nokia, what were you thinking making a tall screen, LMAO, what fools.

There's headphones and a cable microphone - no side-talking of any kind. If this supports VoIP, it's going to be pretty damn awesome.

True, but still not very practical as a mobile phone. The PSP, with all the necessary accessories, is too bulky to just toss in your pocket. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my PSP, but this seems kind of pointless when obtaining a more convenient phone is so easy to do.

Rock May 23, 2007 01:24 PM

Using headphones and a mic attached to the cable is a lot more convenient than using a normal cell phone for me. And if they manage to pull off decent use of the camera, I'm totally sold on this. Weren't they planning to add VoIP functionality to the firmware at some point, anyways?

Just let me use my own VoIP provider and call it a day. Free phoning throughout the city using pirated unsecured hotspots.

Maybe this is Sony trying to attract people away from the iPhone. In any case, I like how Sony is releasing all these gadgets for the PSP. A camera, speech recogniztion, planetarium software, a phone; I wonder what's next?

Slayer X May 23, 2007 09:19 PM

They need some sort of bluetooth attachment. This way you can use bluetooth headsets for music, phone & online gaming.

Tawnee Van Pelt May 24, 2007 12:01 AM

Yay! I uptated my 1.50 firmware to 3.40 OE-A, it was a fucking breeze!!

Now I'm enjoying my backup copy of Virtua Tennis 3, this is soooo cool.

Can't imagine there will be a lot of support for this Stateside. Stuff that takes shape in Europe generally doesn't go anywhere but Europe.

I don't think it'd be as useful here, either...unless you're on, for instance, a college campus or somewhere that there's an abundance of wifi hotspots. Otherwise, what's the point of making VoIP calls from your PSP when you could just do it from your PC at home? Or using your real cell phone that you already have?

It's a neat gadget, but really doesn't serve a huge purpose.

Hello and Hi basically i just got my psp downgraded to 3-0EA (something since it was 2.81 before)

Dudes here in hongkong gave me 12 games (they put it in memory stick) as far as i know i'm running a devhook 0.44 (somehting like that)

There's a catch before i can play it, i need any umd games, unfortunately i forgot all of my games back home in the philippines.

So i'm asking is this, is there anyway i can bypass this like an UMD emulator or something? because there are some games there i seriously want to play.

One more thing, do you need a program that can change iso to .cso?

i checked the memory card earlier, all of it is .cso so...

And is there a chance i can run ps1 games on this psp, if so how?

Thanks~

Sepharite May 25, 2007 08:13 PM

Hold R before you turn on your PSP, you'll enter "recovery mode". Go to configuration and enable NO-UMD. However, some games require a UMD but you might get lucky.

LS May 25, 2007 08:35 PM

worked a charm~

Additional Spam:
okay another question, how do you put psp games on your psp? its .cso files so =o i dont have any idea what it does.

Tawnee Van Pelt May 25, 2007 09:23 PM

You have to make a folder named "ISO" in the root of your memory stick. I've tried both .iso and .cso and they work fine.

LS May 25, 2007 09:24 PM

oh okay, done <3

one final question, how does one get psx iso to work?

Is there an online guide or something?

Rock May 26, 2007 08:45 AM

PSX ISOs need to be converted to EBOOT format to be played on the PSP. There's a whole lot of converters to choose from, but PSX2PSP seems to be the popular choice. Place your converted EBOOTs in the \PSP\GAME\ folder on your Memory Stick.

Freelance May 27, 2007 10:25 AM

Hey, I finally jumped on the bandwagon and got a PSP for FREE. If any of you live in Canada (No idea if it's for the US as well), and you want a PSP, there's a very sweet deal at EB where you can trade in eight games worth at least 8 bucks store-credit and get a PSP and a game for FREE. I did that yesterday and got Daxter for my free game. Now I have a cool Sam and Max wallpaper on it.

I'm still fiddling around with the thing. Can't wait til Tales of the World comes out in July.

P.S. is there any way to start the PSP and having it go straight to the menu and not have it start up the game? I don't see it in system settings so I assume I need to update my firmware to whatever version supports that.

Sousuke May 27, 2007 10:34 AM

As far as I know, there's no option for that. If there is and you find it, let me know.

What I do is just open up the UMD slot when it starts up. But the thing is, I rarely shut the PSP down all the way; I find putting into standby or whatever mode [just flicking the power switch instead of holding it in] just as good.

Freelance May 27, 2007 10:53 AM

Odd. I could've sworn there was something mentioned in the manual about it. Unfortunately, I don't have the manual with me at the moment to check it right now.

P.S. What's the best way of getting rid of fingerprints on the screen? It's kinda hard to prevent that from happening when you're walking around with it.

Sepharite May 27, 2007 11:07 AM

There is a way, it's in the PSP menu (to the far left). My bro has my PSP now so I don't remember where it is. But there definitely is an option. I have firmware 3.10 OE-A though.

For PSX to PSP, use this converter: http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=78985 (Its the only one I can remember that doesn't require BASE)

You can easily find tutorials through Google anyways: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=56492

Question

I'm about to play Final Fantasy 7 which compose of three disc, is there any thing i need to play this? i mean will disc 2 read the save file from disc 1?

Another thing, is there a program that compress a psx iso? Because 400mb is :3 (Using a 2 gigi memstick)

Sepharite May 27, 2007 11:37 AM

Using that program I referred you to, setting the compression level to 9 is the highest compression.

And if you're going to play a game with multiple disks, you'll need to reuse the same GAME ID you used for the first disk. Because the game saves looks for that GAME ID, and if it's different, obviously it wouldn't recognize it.

http://www.sonyindex.com/Pages/PSone_US_Name.htm has all the GAME ID. Just use DISK 1 for every disk.

LS May 27, 2007 11:40 AM

Thanks <3

Oh man parasite eve 2 aint working for me =(

I seriously wanted to replay this.

Sepharite May 27, 2007 11:49 AM

Yeah. Sony's emulator isn't perfect.. but it still runs a good 90% of the games at full speed. http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthr...ght=popstation

Inhert May 27, 2007 12:40 PM

for freelance, yes there's an option to stop the umd to auto start, I just don't remember which firmware you need to do it...

great after 2 years I just fount out that I have a fake memory stick and that now it starting to just... not work properly... I didn't even know that fake memory stick even existed >.< oh well now at least I just found out that futureshop has a big deal on Sony 4gb memory stick pro duo for less than a 2gb. XD

(i'll never buy another memory stick on ebay again >.<)

LS May 28, 2007 01:56 AM

Is there a working gameshark for the whole psx emulator for the psp?

:( Some games are hard to replay thats why I'm asking.
