Oh I totally agree just couldn't waste the opportunity to be hypocritical as fuck. I mean I've stolen the hell out of everything so far and this is a decidedly inconvenient move for me. But I can hardly argue that they're being asses by making things hard to steal.

As a move overall for the utility I'm not really sure if it's a good thing or not. It does take care of people only buying a subscription on months where things of interest to them come up so I can see the appeal there as well. Really I'd have to see how it's implemented since some are saying this might lead to faster updates.

Zergrinch Nov 2, 2010 09:35 PM

Well for one they're opening it up to people from non-Windows platforms now. At least platforms that support Silverlight anyway. (So nuts to you iOS users)

It is a sound business decision, though marketing wise I'm not sure. Hopefully their servers will be able to handle any DDOS attacks that might be launched by disgruntled pirates or people out for the lulz. :p

As for updates, I wouldn't hold my breath. Sure, now they can push updates out to everyone at the flick of a switch now. But will they do so?

Storing characters in the cloud and the possibility of us all using Pang's account (especially if there is multiple simultaneous logins) makes sharing the builds even easier than what we're doing on Obsidian, which is fabulous.

I initially raised an eyebrow at Silverlight, but upon further reflection it's not the worst idea.

Honestly Skills we could all be sharing my account now and just using iplay4E but for various reasons I am sort of hesitant to just throw my account into the hands of a dozen near-strangers. If the new CB does turn out to be easily-sharable it might be worthwhile to take up a collection for a new shared GFF account but we'll see how that hashes out.

The issue wasn't really how fast they could add things, it was whether they could add them at all. The CB software is a huge kludgy mess where adding one thing broke three other things, and evidently trying to add something as major as the Dark Sun themes makes the whole thing fall apart like a game of Jenga on a faultline.

So at the very least things will make more SENSE, going forward, no more "+2, -1" for a shield bonus just to cover up something else. Bugs can actually get fixed instead of having a sheet thrown over them.

At the very least updates will be faster than they've been lately, though that isn't saying much.

If Dragon doesn't get its head out of its ass and start publishing some crunch though I swear to Christ

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 3, 2010 09:47 AM

It was damned clever of them to wait until right before the Dark Sun and Essentials stuff gets put in to do this. Really cut down on people who are happy with what they have now and unwilling to pay more.

A TRUE GENTLEMAN LEAVES NO PUZZLE UNSOLVED

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 6, 2010 04:30 PM

Mayhaps but I am no a gentleman. Time to figure smashing based solution to this problem.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 6, 2010 04:39 PM

I haven't read the new version, but the old school Tomb of Horrors was much lauded for there being very few smashing based solutions. Be prepared for cold death if you try and kick in every door.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 6, 2010 04:44 PM

Look if brute force isn't working you're not using enough. Also way to disarm that obvious trap by flipping a switch and falling face first onto spikes. I think I like your style.

Zergrinch Nov 6, 2010 07:13 PM

I was about to accuse the three couples of infidelity but that was before I considered all information provided in the puzzle. :tpg:

Where'd you get that particular puzzle, Pang? I don't think I've ever seen that particular form before. Don't answer till they fail in solving it and somehow die horrible deaths.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Nov 6, 2010 07:34 PM

Asking the accountant maths questions? You should totaly trap Deni's character in a room and ask him questions on the history of the Byzantine Empire, or whatever the fuck it is he has four degrees in.

Good luck with that.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 6, 2010 10:51 PM

Pang approximately how wide is the opening of that cave? Say big enough for how many critters to come out at once?

The unmovable stubborn Nov 6, 2010 11:47 PM

'round 20 feet wide. Shoulder-to-shoulder you'd get, say, 4 xivorts at a time.

Of course, imps are Tiny-sized so all bets are off there

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 7, 2010 03:04 AM

Ok for a close blast do I roll an attack and damage for each enemy? Basic stuff I know but I forget.

The unmovable stubborn Nov 7, 2010 03:19 AM

You roll an attack against each enemy in the blast, yeah, but you only roll damage once (also these are minions so pfffft)

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 7, 2010 04:06 AM

Was that first attack a surprise round? If so how does that interact with great shouts -2 attack to all enemies within burst 5 until the end of my next turn?

Like would the surprise round and my normal count as one or is the effect already burned out?

No. Hard Pass. Nov 7, 2010 05:26 AM

If Cette pulls this off, I hope he gets a card for bravery, or stupidity, or whatever this happens to be.

Because epic.

Plus a million cool points if at the end he stands on a pile of broken, bloodied bodies, spits on them and shouts out the answer.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Nov 8, 2010 12:48 PM

Heh, I didn't quite realise the extent of his issues till I looked at the map. Still, if anyone can murder their way through 35 monsters in a small cave, it's a kobold barbarian.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 8, 2010 01:17 PM

This is no problem I can do this all day. Of course given that I already used my only AOE you guys could be waiting up awhile. Time to meticulously murder 27 dudes over the course of as many rounds. Knew I should have taken Shout of Fury as my barbarian at-will.

Time to get creative.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Nov 8, 2010 01:27 PM

Try throwing them at each other, you might be able to kill a couple a round that way.

A4: IN THE DUNGEONS OF THE SLAVE LORDS Nov 8, 2010 01:33 PM

A solid plan but I fear that after this round I'm going to working from the center of this crowd so should have roughly 10 AO's a round coming my way if I do that. Not that they can hit for shit anyway but not worth the risk. However I will implement this if I have breathing room as it's fucking awesome.

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Nov 8, 2010 01:38 PM

Grab one and spin round, holding him by the legs, thereby hitting everything around you. Job done in a couple of rounds.

You've got to be able to use something as small as an Imp as an improvised weapon.

The unmovable stubborn Nov 8, 2010 01:40 PM

If only you had some kind of expendable resource which, in essence, would allow you to vanquish your enemies without having to individually hack them apart one-by-one.
