This is just retarded.

So I'm going to be picking up my Wii on launch, but I won't really be able to play it (well, I guess I can play it blurry and laggy, since my TV has a tiny lag on non-progressive content) until these cables come in the mail a few days later...

Great. Thanks, Nintendo, you fucking idiots.

FatsDomino Oct 21, 2006 10:26 AM

You never know. They may sell component cables before the console launches.

Elixir Oct 21, 2006 12:49 PM

I like how everyone's going to fuss over the quality they're getting out of a Nintendo console.

But yeah. Every console since 1999 should be played with component cables. I changed recently and I'd definitely not want to go back. Changing from component to composite and seeing the difference in quality is amazing.

They should just make it a requirement to play the Wii.

Miles Oct 21, 2006 12:56 PM

Aww... I was really hoping that somehow my gamecube component cables would work with the wii. I originally bought them for Twilight Princess before all the delays took place. But now that I'm playing it on wii I basically just wasted my money.

I hope this isn't the only one being sold. 60 dollars is a high price.

If you don't want them, sell them them to me.

I can't find Gamecube component cables anywhere. I've been looking for awhile now.

I purchased the component cables through Nintendo's online shop. Only place that I know carries them, for $29.99. This was about 2yrs ago, it should've gone through a price drop already.

Point is, if N had them hanging right there in the store, they would sell.

Store: Better pic.
Consumer: $

This seems more like N has to prove some point or something. YOU NOT CARE. THIS NOT NEW ERA!
Though I don't think it's even possible to get a 4:3 TV over here, if you can even get a widescreen without HD anymore...

Composite video cables can carry a widescreen video signal too. Most HDTV's by default stretch the signal to fit the screen, so if he turns on the Widescreen option in-game, it'll look "right".

$60 is a high price for a Wii component + audio cable? Checked eBay for GameCube component cable prices recently? Now that Nintendo's sold out (not just online, but by phone order too), that's the only place to get them.

Most TVs these days have delays of 8ms or so. Is your TV old enough that the delay is really apparent? New (and newish) HD sets have such small delays it's almost impossible to notice.

Are all sd memory cards compatible with the Wii or does it only use certain ones. I don't know anything about sd cards so can anyone tell me if this would be compatible and also here is the page with all the information as well.

With the Wii only 1 and a half months from Australian stores I started looking around for good prices to maybe pre-order one. When I was in the local EB I saw that the Wii would be about $400 and the games would be $110. After I left and was thinking about those prices and what they amount to in US dollars I felt kind of ripped off because te price should be closer to $350 to the console and I thought that the games were going to be around 80 so besides possible shipping costs is can anyone give me a reason why these prices are so high or if they've found places cheaper.

Cheers

Grubdog Oct 23, 2006 06:29 AM

Pre-order at Toys R Us to get a free game is the best price.

Infernal Monkey Oct 23, 2006 07:07 AM

Wii games are $110 ($80 US) because $100 just wasn't enough! But yeah, Toys R Us is the best way to go. Nobody knows what the free game's gonna be yet though, might just be something really shit like Monster 4x4 or Barnyard but hey!

CloudNine Oct 23, 2006 09:42 AM

Have they mentioned anything about how much space a save game file or virtual console games will take up on and SD card? I'm just wondering if it's worth going out and buying a bigger one, since I don't anticipate buying a whole lot ofl virtuall console games.

Technophile Oct 23, 2006 09:06 PM

Sorry for the yet another change of course for the conversation, but apperantly if you adhere to the "bushido style" of fighting in Red Steel, you'll eventually get to use two swords. One with the actual wiimote and one with the nun-chuku.

The B0mb Oct 23, 2006 11:21 PM

Any word from Toys R Us if this sunday is the reserve day here in the US? Or if we will get a free game with it aswell?

CloudNine Oct 23, 2006 11:46 PM

I called Toys 'R Us a few days ago and asked them about this. They told me that pre orders are starting on the 29th.

BlueMikey Oct 24, 2006 12:25 AM

I haven't seen anything about it, did you get any other info, like how much, when they're opening, stuff like that? Being able to preorder something on a Sunday is much, much better for me than on a Friday (like EB/GS). Plus, I don't really like shopping at Toys R Us much, but I never get the feeling like they'd screw me over on launch if I did have a preorder.

CloudNine Oct 24, 2006 11:21 AM

I just called back to try and get some more info and they told me that they were not starting them on Sunday. Who knows. Maybe it was just someone who was uninformed or they are trying to keep it hushed for now. I guess I'll just have to call back on Saturday night.

We need Mo0 to come in here and re-confirm this.

Best Buy Display for the Wii ('sup table-stretching)

Omnislash124 Oct 24, 2006 02:37 PM

Looks pretty damn good to me, minimilistic, clean, neat. I like it.

Do we know what the box for the Wii looks like yet? Or did I miss it?

Forsakenzoul Oct 24, 2006 03:13 PM

the Wii Box ^^

Of course, where all of those Wii console boxes are in that display, they WON'T be there in the real display. They'll all be locked up in the big ol Console Cage that most stores have nowadays.

Except that's Best Buy's display stand - and last I checked, they do display game boxes like that, inside of locked plastic boxes.

BlueMikey Oct 24, 2006 11:12 PM

If I ever saw a Best Buy or a Circuit City here in Tucson organized, holy crap. Their Nintendo sections are always the worst: out of order, understocked, you can never find what you want. It is ridiculous.
