Well, to be fair, some of their 90's Ancestor demos were death-metalish.

On my last day in Chile I went to this tiny market in Valdivia, and, well, there was a stall selling nothing but metal-related shit. Wallets with DT emblems, Katatonia patches, everything. I picked out this awesome bootleg Therion shirt - Really good quality, silkscreened, embossed lettering. Lemuria on the front, Sirius B on the back.

I want a random booth selling nothing but metal merch :(.
Especially Therion shirts. I don't like paying shipping for clothing, and they don't sell that kind of stuff around my neck of the woods.

Me to, also finding band t-shirts smaller than large or x-large. Hell even the medium t-shirts are usually roomy.

I don't think I ever ended up writing about this, but way back last Thanksgiving I finally got to see Blind Guardian live. Rates up there as pretty much the most incredible experience of my life. Everyone knows all the words, so you have a massive chorus to accompany them, and of coures, the Bard's Song was impressive. They played "And Then There Was Silence" much to my surprise, since it's something like 14 minutes long. It's one of my absolutely favorite BG songs so I was pretty happy.

EDIT: We even got them to add a song to their set list, Majesty :).

deadsky Jan 11, 2007 04:18 PM

Blind Guardian are awesome, i missed them when they where in the UK back in September :( Hopefully it's not to long before they're here again.

DarkLink2135 Jan 11, 2007 04:20 PM

That was my second live concert ever, the first "real" one. I was at an Audio Adrenaline concert way, way back when I was younger at the 4H Fair, it was really good, but I was a bit young to actually enjoy a concert as much as I should have. Moshing and crowd-surfing going on, interstingly enough.

Heh. The mosh pits @ the BG concert were WAY more brutal though.

I've never really been much of a concert person, but when I found out BG was playing live in Chicago (about a 3.5+ hour drive) I couldn't pass it up. My favorite (still living & performing) band.

I should hope so to, the pits at bloodstock last year where brutal.
Although the worst I've ever had was a hatebreed show when my arm was dislocated in a wall of death

good times :D

:edgarrock:

Anyone heard Wormphlegm's In an Excruciating Way etc etc etc etc? I've been listening to it a lot. Super good.

Torture Priest...
Boil him in 1000 degree hot excrement...

deadsky Jan 11, 2007 05:08 PM

I think Wormphlegm hold the record for longest demo album title ever
"In An Excruciating Way Infested With Vermin And Violated By Executioners Who Practise Incendiarism And Desanctifying The Pious"
It is very good mind

Morrigan Jan 13, 2007 12:24 AM

What the fuck. We chanted Majesty over and over again and they didn't even play it. And the place was packed, too.
Wankers.

Edit: I sincerely doubt moshing was that brutal at a Blind Guardian concert, though... I can't stand moshing myself, but the moshing at power metal shows never come close to, say, thrash or death metal shows. I shudder to imagine punk and (true) hardcore concerts...

Chicago was a great show :)

Can anyone upload these tracks; Noman's Land's "Sea Battlefield" and Moonsorrow's "Pakanajuhla" since my copies are broken. :D

knkwzrd Jan 13, 2007 12:27 PM

Here's that Moonsorrow track. Can't help with the other one.

Hey, thanks man.

So, any new releases on the internet? I'm kinda itching for some new metal music.

DarkLink2135 Jan 18, 2007 10:50 PM

What specifically are you interested in? I'd be glad to share out of my collection.

Will Jan 19, 2007 12:10 AM

Has anyone heard Derek Sherinian's solo work? I just got Blood of the Snake and it's pretty solid.

For Christmas I got (among other things which I dare not mention here *ahem* King Crimson's Red <3) the debut albums of both Angra and Shaman. HOLY SHIT. Now I'm actually upset that Shaman disbanded. And Angels Cry is right up there with Temple and Holy Land for me. At the risk of being contrarian, I love the Kate Bush cover.

Somwhere along the lines of viking/pagan/folk metal. (I usually ask niki or morrigan for names, whenever I can.)

DarkLink2135 Jan 19, 2007 03:36 AM

The only viking/pagan/folk metal I have is Amon Amarth, at least that I know of, and I've gotten fairly negative reactions to them on this board before :(. I like them though =/.

If you want them I can upload them to my site and send you a link.

Vemp Jan 19, 2007 04:03 AM

I have Amon Amarth. No offense, but I'm not really impressed by their music. Their cool, ok I guess, but it lacks in "oomph!" factor, if you know what I mean.

Django Jan 19, 2007 06:52 AM

In case if someone is interested:

Quote:

(...)In a recent interview with U.K. magazine Rock-A-Rolla (web site), former FAITH NO MORE frontman Mike Patton said that a fifth release by star-studded noise-mongers FANTOMAS — which also features MELVINS guitarist Buzz Osborne, MR. BUNGLE bassist Trevor Dunn, and SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo — would probably not see the light of day for a couple of years. "I'm gonna take a little break from FANTOMAS and do some other things," he stated and added that the record will be "all electronic" and will contain "no acoustic instrumentation."(...)

I'm more in an Ukrainian Black Metal phase again right now. Lucifugum, Astrofaes, Warhead ... Stuff like that. I guess you could like them, eventhough it took time for me.

Meh. I loved Fantomas, but pretty much anything Mike Patton touches is gold for me, so a new side project is good news anyway.

My neck still hurts two days after the Moonsorrow concert. Think I exaggerated during Kylän Päässä? Naah.... :D And Metal Church is this Sunday, w00t!

So last Boxing Day, at a local metal CD store, if you bought something on that day you were automatically entered for a contest. There were apparently ten prizes of 10 CD batches, and five prizes of 5 CD batches.

In a matter of pure luck, not only did I win 10 CDs, but my boyfriend also won 10 CDs! We didn't get to pick the CDs, of course, so the quality is kind of meh, but hey, they're free... who knows, I might give some away too. I seem to have gotten assorted black metal CDs, while my boyfriend got an assortment of brutal death/grindcore CDs, poor him. :D
Anyone familiar with the following bands? I got CDs by those:

Azure, Saxorior, Arise From Thorns, Dialectic Soul, Obscure Devotion, Ewiges Reich, Throndt, Menhir, Satarial, Cultus

And he got CDs by:

Strangulation, Death du Jour, Mind Eclipse, Myopia, Da Grind, Pustulated, Hacksaw to the Throat, Dismo, Hyperion, Subtera

So far, CDDB doesn't recognize the first two CDs I got. Kvlt...
