2 little interesting bits of info with the first being a video interview with Ryan Payton that GameSpot did where he talks about the demo, new locations and the different gameplay aspects they have but the main tidbit is the hint that MGO will get an open beta outside Japan later this year. So if you've missed out on the current signups then there's still hope:

Hmm, I'm guessing we tap the R2 button is use the grenade launcher and stun on the knife, and hold R2 to load the weapon menu?

Does anyone else find this location eerily familiar to the Grozynj Grad base during the Sidecar runaway part from MGS3?

Oh and the MGS4 demo footage is now available on both the NA and Euro PSNs.

EDIT:

New KPR podcast is interesting. The local Vamp & Raiden were fighting in was confirmed to be South America. And Payton didn't even deny that the guy with the mask & shades that wasn't affect by the nanos activation is Raiden as Randy Nelson babbled on about it.

Looks alot like it even down to the walkway across the 2 buildings. I was hoping they would of released footage of the game by now though.

Middle-East, South America...and there was a third region the game was supposed to take place. Nice to hear Payton confirm where the fight happens and again, the problem with that masked soldier being Raiden is that the VO and the actual VO for Raiden in the same trailer are 2 different actors.

The new 1UP Show covers the 20th anniversary party including an interview with Payton:

Some interesting details about MGS4 and MGO including using the SOP to hack an opposing team member and thus access all their maps and information. I had thought SOP stood for Standard Operating Protocol given that's normal army terminology but it seems to be something of more significance to MGS4's plot.

I guess one of the highlights of the show is Payton hinting that we may get a demo with TGS in September.;)

Surprisingly so. Not only in regards to the construction of the building with the red ironcast gates and the lookout towers surrounding it, but also the environment with the surrounding mountains and whatnot. Judging from this imagery, it might be possible that Grozynj Grad might be revisited in a part of the story. It seems virtually like the same basic environment.

I hope I am wrong. I love MGS3 but I'd like to see and experience something new. (I thought I remembered the demo having a desert locale as well.) I am hoping the environments in MSG4 are as diverse as they were in MGS3.

Tagonist Jul 31, 2007 03:01 PM

This Groszny Grad is a part of Metal Gear Online, not of Guns of the Patriots.
At least the screen above is. Don't know wether that actually translates to "Guns of the Patriots has a part in Groszny Grad". As no other real Metal Gear has yet revisited a locale of one of its predecessors, I think it somewhat unlikely.
Unless it's some "back to the source where it all began" thing. But even then they should probably rather go to Granin's buro...

Simo Jul 31, 2007 04:45 PM

It's probably just a map specific for MGO more than anything. While some areas in MGS4 will be in MGO I doubt Grozynj Grad will be one of them, I mean there isn't anything left considering it got nuked and the 40+ years since the events in MGS3.

Kotaku also reported the rumor today that TGS should see the announcement of an actual date for the release of MGS4 according a Konami shares meeting that was held. Q4 of March is expected so hopefully we'll know more in September.

Also is looks like Cam Clarke won't be reprising Liquid...

Konami never contacted him. Several people including a few members at MGSTUS contacted him asking about his involvement in MGS4 to which he replied he had none and wanted to reprise his role. Heck, he wasn't even aware the English VO had begun until word of the E3 trailer got to him.

I guess it's their way of saying it'll be released sometime toward the end of March at least that's according to the rumour on Kotaku which is still just that now with nothing confirmed and most likely won't be until TGS in September.

Some good news about those figures shown at the party. Seems like they're a new 7" line by Medicom with multiple points of articulation and will be distributed stateside via Diamond/Previews and retail for around $20. They were on show at the SDCC so here are some snaps:

Aw man, that just sucks! Just isn't an MGS game without Clarke!!! Now we got inconsistency too, since it was always Liquid's voice whenever he took over Ocelot in MGS2. I wonder how they're planning to explain this? Since the Japanese VA is still consistent.

Meh, they don't look that great. My definition of "multiple" is 20 points of articulation or more, these's clearly don't have that. I think I'll just save my money for the MGS4 RAHs instead.

EDIT:
New podcast, another session with Randolph. Doesn't really reveal any new, but there's a bleep at 18:27, wonder what that was about? Next session is Quinton Flynn, which should be very interesting, heh, apparently he quite the goofball. I wonder if they'll spill the beans about whether he is the guy in the shades and mask (cause personally, from the english E3 trailer, it sounds like he was voiced by Flynn).

Kojima to show new MGS 4 trailer and playable demo in Leipzig
Quote:

Konami Europe has announced that Hideo Kojima will visit this year's Leipzig Games Convention, and will show an all-new Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trailer and a playable demo of the video game during the game's presentation. The presentation will be held in Hall 4, Stand 11 in the Leipzig Games Convention venue (the event will run from August 22 to 26).

This will be the first time for Konami Digital Entertainment to show a playable demo of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in Europe. Kojima will also reveal some gameplay secrets and explain important details related to the video game, in addition to making important announcements regarding future Metal Gear Solid projects (does this mean there's still life after the Solid franchise?) as well as Kojima Productions.

Aside from showing a completely new trailer and playable version of the video game, Hideo Kojima promises to bring along a very special guest, whose identity is kept secret for the meantime. Hmm...
Ok. I'm confused. Is this another gameplay demonstration, or will this be an actual playable demo? The whole "in Europe" part of that sentance is throwing me off. If it is an actual demo that people can play, then I would imagine that a PSN demo couldn't be too far off :/. And who the hell is this special guest?

And he better fucking announce ZOE3.

Grail Aug 7, 2007 01:22 PM

The special guest is probably going to be Stan Lee more than likely to be honest.

Though having the REAL Snake Pliskin show up would be cool, and you know I mean Kurt Russel :D

Kilroy Aug 7, 2007 01:28 PM

Speaking of Kurt Russel, I wonder if his Escape from New York game was scrapped... But yeah, he would be cool.
Oh,I wish I was going to Leipzig, but that's a job for my editor... Crud!

Hantei Aug 7, 2007 03:14 PM

Bleh, the article's title is confusing too. "Kojima to show..." kinda implies that it'll be another gameplay demo and not an actual playable demo. I really hope it is indeed an actual on stands playable demo and will be appearing on the PSN the week of or shortly after. Heh, looks like I'll be keeping an eye on the Euro PSN for the week of GC.

Simo Aug 7, 2007 03:30 PM

Most likely it'll be the same demo demonstration as the one at the Sony and 20th anniversary event. I wouldn't get my hopes up about seeing the demo on PSN either since Ryan mentioned that the likely possibility for the game to be playable to the public would be during TGS in September.

Still the hope of a new trailer and new project announcements has me excited for GC.

Slayer X Aug 7, 2007 03:47 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if it were another onstage demo (same as last or new) along with a playable demo for the event ONLY. Then depending on feedback will determine how long till the demo comes out after Leipzig. With a target demo release around TGS. This seems like the most likely scenario.

Hantei Aug 9, 2007 03:26 PM

New KP Report interview with Quinton Flynn. Heh, we get a sample of the english version of Raiden's line from the 2006 E3 trailer. Oh and Payton mentioned an interview he had with Kojima which is being done for a documentary. I wonder if this is for Metal Gear Saga vol.2 or for the MGS4 documentary the Japanese voted for a while back (mentioned in a previous podcast).

Plus they gave somewhat of a reason as to why Cam Clarke isn't back (more or less, decision was made by Kojima). Basically cause it was Ocelot's body, and that the original plan for the Japanese VA was to have the VA for Ocelot return (who we all know passed away, RIP). Oh and they released what Kris Zimmerman's relation to Pat Zimmerman's is. And interstingly they're still doing auditions for other characters in the game.

http://mp.i-revo.jp/user.php/kp-ryan/entry/128.html

Slayer X Aug 9, 2007 06:14 PM

So does that mean that the JAP and US versions of the game are going to be slightly different if in the JAP is's Liquid and US is Ocelot? Wouldn't make much sense in having Liquid's VA playing as Ocelot.

Saga Vol. 2 is already out, Hantei. It came with the recently released 20th anniversary boxset in Japan that covers all the Snakes in the series voiced by an unknown characters. I've been waiting for the is podcast so cheers for the link!

In regards to Clarke not coming back, it's a shame but I'm glad since that was really one of the ridiculous moments in MGS2 that wasn't necessary and really it should be only Ocelot's voice regardless if Liquid is in control or not.

Not really. It's more to do with Kojima being loyal to his actors, alive or dead. Even if Liquid is in complete control of Ocelot it should be just Ocelot's voice but since Kojima doesn't have that option he's going with the second best thing rather than recasting the part.

I mean for the Japanese release of The Twin Snakes Kojima forbid Silicon Knights to recast another Japanese actor for Gray Fox, since the original actor Kaneto Shiozawa passed away, and so the English VO was used instead with Japanese subtitles.

Ohhh, I wonder how they're going to distribute it for NA now. My guess is a pre-order bonus for MGS4. Hmm, then that means that the interview Payton did is for the Documentary of MGS4 (haha, assuming that they are going through with it).

Just gonna feel weird not hearing his voice. I mean Zimmerman saying "Brother" or something Liquidy is gonna sound so awkward.

Ahh, no wonder TTS only had english voice overs for both versions.

Well if they agree with distributing the 20th anniversary set stateside then Vol. 2 will most likely come with that. I'd imagine though it could always be a preorder bonus like you said should the set not come over but I wonder if the documentary is actually for the game, like extra bonus content similiar to the Euro MGS2 version which had a making of DVD....

Yeah but that in itself with Ocelot with a British accent was just as awkward and I wished they had just gone with the dropped cyborg arm angle. I mean it'd kind of shit to setup Ocelot with 40 years of history between MGS1-3 but then turn it crap just have him turn into Liquid and Zimmerman does an excellent job with the role including his small line in the trailer. :)

Hmm, I see what you mean. Perhaps under an unlockables/specials/bonus section in the game. That'd be nice.

Oh, I agree Zimmerman is awesome and am loving what he's done so far for MGS4, haha even though it was only one line from the E3 trailer. Heh, don't get me wrong, if he didn't make a return I would equally complain about it as well. Just still bummed that we won't be hearing Clarke's Liquid in 4. It would have been better if they didn't even bother with the voice changes in MGS2 for Ocelot, that way we wouldn't have built up this expectation.

And looky at what popped up on YouTube, Metal Gear Saga vol. 2 (though it doesn't refer to itself as such). Assuming that this does see an NA release, I wonder who they're getting to narrate it (in fact, I wonder who is the narrator for it, character wise). Ohhh and is that the instrumental version of "Calling to the Night" I'm hearing during the run down of the MG timeline and credits? I hope it sees a release in the near feature (why wasn't it included in the MG 20th Ann music collection!?!?)! Or at least a rip ;).

Yeah for continuity sake everyone kind of expected him to return because of MGS2 but I always assumed it was Ocelot's voice the whole time and we heard Liquid's voice just for the sake of players since there's that one moment where you hear both Ocelot and Liquid's voice at one time. Clarke did an excellent job even in MGS2 and it's a shame he's not returning but ultimately, IMO anyways, it's for the best.

I'm just glad Ryan was able to clear up the subject. Now all he needs to do is address the MGS theme and what the hell is going on with it....:(

Yeah I saw that posted over at TUS but I didn't watch it yet mainly because some of the guys over at TUS are working on some English subtitles that are pretty much done and are just being encoded with the video. Hopefully it should be done soon.
