Actually, Ganondorf was a Falcon clone. But he was the best damn clone in the game. ;_;

I mean, even his standard A attack would knock any character on their keester. He could take on team groups because his smash attacks were so powerful, and the only real drawback was his running speed. Attack speed could always be compensated for.

Man, I hope he stays that badass in Brawl.

PunyPeon Sep 16, 2007 05:33 PM

Ganondorf, could easily be tweaked to give him his own moveset, there's no reason to remove the main villain of the Zelda franchise.. Give him his sword, make him transform into his Pig Form, whatever.

That was the first thing to come to my mind as well. I mean damn, I shat bricks. Now Link will be awesome with the hammer seeing how he and Guy have the same voice actor.

Amayirot Akago Sep 17, 2007 08:59 AM

:oo They do? Well, that's news to me.

map car man words telling me to do things Sep 17, 2007 09:33 AM

Yeah, Nobuyuki Hiyama voices adult Link in pretty much every game he appears in. He also does Madarame in Genshiken and Viral in Gurren-Lagann.

Although for Twilight Princess, Nobuyuki got the flick and Akira Sasanuma was chosen as the voice for Adult Link... (so says IMDB... but regardless of how accurate they are Link's VA is different in TP).

I'm also liking how they're giving some of the items a little tweak. The golden hammer seems like oodles of fun :p

Well, ANN still lists Hiyama in TP, as does gamefaqs, so I dunno. ANN also lists Sasanuma as Link in TP, so :tpg:

Macksis Sep 17, 2007 07:15 PM

I'm probably asking to be flamed here, but I just gotta know. Does the voice actor for a game like this really matter? We're only talkin a couple of grunts and a death cry, right?

map car man words telling me to do things Sep 17, 2007 07:19 PM

Well, you certainly calls'em like you see them, don't you.

Crucial for the enjoyment of the game, no. Of interest for the benefit of trivia (as that's what it started as and still is), yes.

Macksis Sep 17, 2007 07:27 PM

I didnt mean to offend anyone with my comment. I was just curious as to the discussion referring to the voice actors.

xiaowei Sep 17, 2007 07:35 PM

The squeaky golden hammer is fantastic. It's funnier than just the top of the hammer flying off.

Kanzaki Sep 17, 2007 10:39 PM

Because the top of the hammer is not fun, is dangerous :P I wonder if the golden hammer will have the same music as the normal one , or maybe a remix (as if it was long enough)

ZeroSlash Sep 17, 2007 11:13 PM

After some research (browsing /v/) the golden hammer is most likely from Wrecking Crew back on the NES. If it is so, one would assume they might use the music from the game shown here.

Wi-Fi play has been confirmed.

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070918a-l.jpg

The two modes seen so far are With Friends (Anyone who has registered one another's names can play together. Also, you can send short messages while playing with the D-Pad.)...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070918b-l.jpg
Register your friends!

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070918c-l.jpg
You can change your icon...

http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamem..._070918d-l.jpg
And even send short messages during brawls!

...and With Anyone (You will not know each-others names, you can't send short messages while playing, and records won't be kept.).

If you think of your opponent as a simple scarecrow, any psychological barriers may melt away.

While waiting for everyone to pick and choose their things, you can beat up the Sandbag.

And it looks like there's even more stuff in the game that uses the Wi-Fi connection, so this is apparently the tip of the iceberg. Definitely a nice update, though there isn't much that can top this.

Free.User Sep 18, 2007 02:13 AM

What the fuck is the point in playing online when you can't see the other Gamertags or keep records? Fuck you Nintendo. Why do they have to be so cautious? It's not like knowing the name of my opponent is going to increase the likelihood of me asking them to meet me for free candy. Go back to making playing cards, dykes.

Krelian Sep 18, 2007 02:14 AM

This is so awesome.

Okay, game of forever confirmed.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Sep 18, 2007 02:18 AM

With the friend code system, seeing their nicknames isn't going to help shit. Not even keeping a win-loss record though? For shame.

At the very least it's something though, and with a forum like this, we'll at least have lots of people to buddy play and organize matches with.

WolfDemon Sep 18, 2007 02:37 AM

No records is kind of a shit move, but it certainly won't stop me from playing online for hours on end, even with random folks. If it mattered that much to be, I could just keep track with pen and paper.

The only thing I'm worried about is just how bad connections will be. It's understandable that USA to Japan will have some lag, but I hope we don't get DOA 4 Live-speed battles between mere states.

I am a little sad that there's no way to get Friend Codes or anything with "Anyone" matches whatsoever. If I come across someone who's a decent challenge online, I usually try to add them to my friends list so that I can play with them again later on.

I'm betting my 2 cents that other Wi-Fi modes are FC only.

At least it's something (good).

Infernal Monkey Sep 18, 2007 04:20 AM

Oh my God. A screen confirming they've kept DK's shrugging taunt (ie; best thing in any game ever). Stuff online, this is the real update!

Krelian Sep 18, 2007 04:25 AM

What? No records = amazing news. This means that the sore loser twelve-year-old you're playing won't have an incentive to hit the Home button right when you're about to shit all over him.

FatsDomino Sep 18, 2007 07:48 AM

I'm going to guess that to make up for no stats for random online matches (which honestly makes sense considering there are so many things that could go wrong) will be online tournaments that will hopefully be monitored somehow but of course not by tourneyfag rules unless it's being held by tourneyfags. I think tournament codes would be a very cool thing to implement into the game for such purposes. 1 code. Well, I'm looking forward to what they come up with.

Additional Spam:
You know it would have been nice if they had let you type in your friend code in one of the taunt fields for random online play. But oh no policy GOTTA PROTECT DA CHILLIN.

Additional Spam:
Oh and if I'm reading this right it seems that the game will use your Wii Friend Codes just like Metroid Prime 3 does. I really hope that's the case. I really do.
