OH I SEE. I thought you meant that when you went to your friend list, it would start on the far right and you'd have to move to the left. I'm retarded.

How is HD Remix online though? I played the demo and got a pretty nasty lag spike. Is it anything like what I'd heard of the first SFII iteration?

I've encountered a couple of matches where it's been laggy, but for the most part the online fights in SSF2THDR are pretty damn smooth. The only real issue with the online side of the game is the matchmaking stuff, which can be a bit painful. Trying to use the 'Quick Match' option is entirely pointless as it never seems to find any available games. But if you then go to custom match and search you'll get a big long list. However, clicking on any of these is likely to pop up a message saying the session is full or unavailable, but you get there eventually.

Rotorblade Dec 1, 2008 03:20 AM

Player Match is usually straight, but Ranked Match is an exercise in frustration. I try not to fuck with it, since I'm not of the level to deal with the kind of bullshit involved. Getting ejected from a match in the damn lobby after the game sends you there is fucking irritating as shit. It's just not worth it.

Chaotic Dec 1, 2008 03:26 AM

I haven't had a whole lot of problems online. Most of my matches have been pretty smooth overall, but by no stretch am I a bad player, but my record online is horrendous. Anyone who has my gamertag could see. :tpg:

OmagnusPrime Dec 1, 2008 07:09 AM

Yeah, sorry I should have said that I was talking about ranked matches. I've not done any player match searches as I've only played with mates, like Rotor, in various player sessions, however those have been issue free by and large. The one problem I have come across in that area is that on the odd occasion the game goes a little screwy and the information at the top goes a bit wrong: you can't really see what each player has health wise, and the round win tokens show up three for each person, that sort of thing. I've also had the music cut out a couple of times in various games. It's nothing to get worried about though, and doesn't affect the online play.

It's taking a little getting used to, but straight off the bat it's proving to be a better choice than the 360 pad. It's nice actually holding a direction and the character moving in it, not randomly jumping or crouching because the pad thinks I'm pressing a diagonal or some shit.

Unfortunately I'm still not that great at SSF2THDR, but slowly (very slowly) improving.

Arcade sticks are the only way to go for beat em ups. The old Namco Arcade Stick I bought for my PS1 back in '98 is still going strong, I swear the thing is fucking bulletproof.

OmagnusPrime Dec 1, 2008 08:39 AM

Since I never really played on arcade fighters in the arcade, and have never previously owned an arcade stick for a console it was purely a case of being none the wiser. However, I'm very much coming to realise that an arcade stick is just miles better for it (I might have to revisit some of the fighters in my collection and see how they handle).

Fluffykitten McGrundlepuss Dec 1, 2008 08:46 AM

If nothing else, having a microswitched stick makes it much, much easier to hit the moves and when you're playing games like that, you want to be losing because your timing is off or your move choice was poor, not because you inputted the wrong commands.

I also find using an arcade stick for reissues of old games like R-Type improves the experience no end.

Here's a quick question good sirs and mams of this forum, how does the RRoD coverage work? A friend and I have both had problems with our 360's as of recent - buying our 360s about two days apart - we're now both out of warranty (bought the 360s late october) and we've both encountered RRoD; the systems both work right now but I'm afraid of the impending doom. Since it's clear Microsoft makes the sloppiest console around, I'm confused about their warranty. I've googled and such and done a decent amount of research and I'm confused as to whether you're covered for three years if you get RRoD while owning a 360, or if you get the three years AFTER your system breaks down in the first year of warranty. If this serves any relevance I'm a Canadian.

That is going to serve a fair bit of relevance. The country you're in will affect who you need to contact, and also what your retail rights are. For example, in the UK you can return to the store up to a year after purchase. As such you'll benefit from the advance of a fellow Canadian, but I'll post this link I found a while back where someone's compiled all the useful info for UK citizens on the off chance that anyone else needs it or that some of the info provided is useful: Faulty 360s, warranties and consumer rights FAQ V1 - AVForums.com

Ok guys, tomorrow I'm probably gonna get one new game. I'm looking at Mirror's Edge (Its sharp! ...ok, bad joke), but anything else I should consider? Console titles only for this time, any new PC games are too demanding for my old laptop.

Jessykins Dec 1, 2008 09:14 PM

I hear Mirror's Edge is not a purchase whatsoever. Way too short and not a whole much to it besides the time attack mode and stuff. BUT HEY, PEOPLE TALK.

Dark Nation Dec 1, 2008 09:16 PM

Aww, really? I had fun with the Demo :(

But hey, I'm open to other suggestions!

The Last Remnant. Shit, save yourself the gas and buy it on Amazon for 30 dollars brand new.

Dark Nation Dec 1, 2008 09:23 PM

30? I see it at $59.99 (Some used from $47) , can you can link me to where on Amazon its sold for $30?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 1, 2008 09:27 PM

The price of TLR fluctuates all over the place on Amazon, actually. Full price one day, 40 another, then 60 again, then 30...then 60 again. It's strange.

Mirror's isn't bad, but it's painfully short and doesn't live up to the speed or fluidity the demo presents. Very often you'll be dumped into puzzle rooms where your runner vision becomes useless, the cops will never show up to get you, and the entire pacing of the level grinds to a fucking halt.

The time trials are fun but some of them are ridiculously hard to par time, same with the speedrun options in some cases.

It's a crying shame, actually. The game works fantastic when it it's firing on all cylinders, but outside of that it falters quite regularly. (Helloooooo chapters 7 and 8)

I assume reading this Microsoft will give me a new 360, but I have no idea of the store policy aspect (granted I took it to a store) for Canada. Despite this I'm more worried about RRoD, which it seems like I'm still covered for. Thanks for the link!

Dark Nation Dec 1, 2008 10:04 PM

Contracts, if you do get a new 360, you might get one of the new models with the "Jasper" motherboard in it, which is supposed to reduce RRoD errors completely (And feature a 256MB built-in cache, for what I can only assume is the new XBE/Dashboard). The revisions were supposed to get put in during late august / september, but I think by now they should start circulating into models available for purchase.

Then again, they might give you an old model in an effort to clear them out >_>

OmagnusPrime Dec 2, 2008 03:14 AM

Given Jasper boards have only just been spotted then I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you. Sure, you might get lucky, but I wouldn't bet on it.

As for store policies, you need to look up what your consumer rights are for your country (Skills might be of more help here), which should be on your government's website if not anywhere else.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Dec 2, 2008 04:55 PM

Well, in short, you don't have the awesome ability to return it to the store like you do in Omagnus's case, but the number to phone and bitch until you get a free repair is the same as the yanks. 1-800-4MY-XBOX I think it is.

When you go through the send in process, you're likely to get a refurb. Some people get extremely lucky and get new machines, but it's not something I'd bet on.

value tart Dec 2, 2008 05:08 PM

Actually unless you're prepared to bitch to the CS reps they tend to direct you to service.xbox.com lately. It's actually a quick way to see if it's under warranty.

I was about to ask if anyone else had that happened to them. It's kind of neat at first to just hear SFX but gets irritating after awhile. But I'd rather deal with no music than the other person lag-warping around me through a whole match :(

At least I can actually finish this game...I never want to touch Hyper Fighting again. But I probably won't touch HD Remix much either since Banjo-Kazooie is out today.

OmagnusPrime Jan 12, 2009 07:17 AM

Some of the news out of CES 09, apparently we should expect more regular updates to the dashboard, and they're looking at increasing the 100 friend limit.

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Jan 12, 2009 05:30 PM

I believe a "Thank God" is well deserved for the second point. I've been at 95 friends on the buddy list for a while, adding and removing the last few to keep a little space open. Hopefully the NXE won't explode when trying to load a buddy list of that size though.

Chaotic Feb 26, 2009 01:17 AM

Well, fuck. My 360 is beginning to break down on me.

Apparently, my system is suffering a video error right now. The system boots up with no red rings, but there's no video on screen and it claims that there's no signal emitting from the system.

Started out with all the colors on screen becoming distorted and stuff... Then got nothingness from there.

I read online that this wasn't covered in the warranty, but I don't think it would've helped me much since I recieved my 360 from my cousin and he bought around the second shipment of 360 consoles near release date. o__o
