Those outfits look sharp on them.

I guess I'm somewhat excited about their return since I did attempt to get good with them at one time.

Good update, I guess?

Lukage Sep 14, 2007 02:26 AM

This is really a big shock as most people were sure these two were NOT returning o the game. Here's to them not being completely useless this time around.

:(

Poor Kirby.

map car man words telling me to do things Sep 14, 2007 03:13 AM

Haha, holy crap yes!

I've absolutely no comment on their usefulness, but I remember being saddened when there was talk of removing them from the game. If anything, at least they are unique and represent one more old game, so it pleases me greatly to see them return <3

NOW WHAT ABOUT NESS

Kanzaki Sep 14, 2007 09:24 AM

They look a lot like Kirby in the last screen. It's good to hear they return. And as Qwarky said, what about Ness ? :P

FatsDomino Sep 14, 2007 09:35 AM

Q seems to have a newfound respect for Ness after finally getting around to playin Earthbound. =)

I'm glad that the Ice Climbers are coming back. They were fun. I wonder what their final smash will be. =o

A post on Starmen.net about Mother 3 in Brawl.

Reidman is thinking that Lucas'll be replacing Ness. If true, that's really going to bite. -_- Here's hoping that he's wrong about that.

map car man words telling me to do things Sep 14, 2007 11:50 AM

No, I've heard the "we predict" stuff concerning Lucas and Ness and all. People predicted Ice Climbers were out. I don't care about the rumors or the predictions, I want proper confirmation.

Oh, sorry about that. >_< Closest thing I could find.

I'm hoping there will be an EarthBound related update next week. A character, an item, a level, anything...

Sin Ansem Sep 14, 2007 01:41 PM

Ice Climbers are (kind of) the new Spanish Inquisition.

Joe Wiewel Sep 14, 2007 03:19 PM

Well, this throws the Ice Climbers/Young Link/Mr. Game & Watch-are-axed theory out the window. I don't care one way or the other if Young Link will return, but Sakurai better not remove Game & Watch.

Not to cause anymore confusion, but I could have swore that I read somewhere that Sakurai said that he wouldn't put playable characters in the game that have only been released in Japan, since he intended for Marth and Roy to be only in the Japanese version of Melee and Nintendo of America/Europe/Australia put them in the localized games anyway.

Ike was in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, which was localized outside of Japan...so, so far, that theory seems to be holding up based on what little information we have on Brawl. And obviously, all of the other playable characters have made it outside of Japan in their respective games.

The point is, is that if this is true, then we aren't gonna see Lucas in Brawl, since Nintendo of America/Europe/Australia are all too fucking retarded to localize Mother 3.

But then again, it does seem ridiculous that Sakurai would base his decisions for characters on decisions of foreign localization teams that don't know their asses from holes in the ground when it comes to certain series of games.

If the inclusion of Ice Climbers ushers in anything, it should be the end of any sort of these "predictions" and discussion of such things. While those with common sense have kept out of that mess from the beginning, those who weren't so lucky as to be born with it have had one of the most accepted "rumors/predictions/lies" crushed before their very eyes.

Anything goes. It's been that way since the beginning. Ness? Sure. Lucas? Sure. Waddle Dee? Sure.

You can make all the predictions you want, but trying to justify them over another is a waste of everyones time.

WolfDemon Sep 14, 2007 03:35 PM

I don't know about Game and Watch, but Young Link should most definitely be cut. They've said a thousand times before that all the clone characters would be axed. So unless they do something to Young Link that makes him totally different from Adult Link, I doubt he'll show up.

FatsDomino Sep 14, 2007 04:07 PM

Well there is always the possibility of a Wind Waker Link to replace Young Link. I think that and a completely cell shaded stage that changes the style (like Mr. Game & Watch's stage) for every character would be very neat.

Agreed. I think part of the hoping was that Brawl wouldn't become MUGEN for Nintendo Wii, but, clearly, Nintendo is not limiting themselves to any particular roster, here.

(Downloadable characters, anyone?)

Kanzaki Sep 14, 2007 09:43 PM

I think that people starting rumors or commenting on them is normal, since it's "fan fear" about their favorite characters being replaced, removed or "nerfed" .

chaofan Sep 14, 2007 10:04 PM

*evil laugh* :tpg:
Imagine the Lyn fans finding out the Ice Climbers made it.

All I can say is screw rumours. Ice Climbers have made anything possible.

FatsDomino Sep 15, 2007 12:33 AM

Anything? Really? What is the logic behind that?

Cheezeman3000 Sep 15, 2007 03:24 AM

'Cause if what people consider one of the worst characters has ended up returning, then who knows what could happen!
I really want Midna or Kosmos... yeah, the Xenosaga Kosmos... and if you've played Xenosaga you'll know why...

Lets not turn this into a worst character debate. There's enough of that around already.

Yeah... never meant to. But like people said, let's hope they improve the Ice Climbers somewhat.

Chaotic Sep 15, 2007 11:20 PM

Hopefully made them a little heavier, or not make Popo not as useless when he's alone... I mean I know you need Nana all the time, but he should have some chance to get back on stage. :|

PunyPeon Sep 16, 2007 01:08 AM

There really is no point in removing a unique character. There is absolutely NO reason for Ice Climbers or Game & Watch being removed. I don't know why rumors like that even spread.

There are only 4 characters which should and I believe will most likely be removed: Dr. Mario, Pichu, Roy, and Young Link.

And by the way Ice Climbers are not USELESS. If used properly they can cause quite the trouble.

Skexis Sep 16, 2007 01:13 AM

They do hit hard, but they get separated way too easy. What would be nice is if they used the climbing rope to better effect. Maybe make it a down-B charge up move to tie the two together, and that opens up new attacks, or replaces attacks (maybe a clothesline or something) and also makes it harder for them to separate when they go flying.

I'm more concerned about how they'll handle the Zelda/Sheik thing. I was a big Sheik player in Melee, but I loved Zelda's magic attacks too, so I really hope they keep the transformation thing in the game.

I'm sorry bro but looking at Mario's water pack and seeing how the director specifically said it was the NEW Link, I doubt Zelda will be able to do what the old one did. I highly doubt it.

Don't forget Ganondorf, who was also essentially a clone of the Fire Emblem cast.

If they threw in a friggin' Warioware level, I don't think Mr. Game and Watch is going to be cut. He may well wind up playing different, though. Despite the spectacle of wasting people with flapjacks, he wasn't all that effective compared to more straight-forward characters.

Princess Zelda's appearance will probably depend on whether they want to stick primarily to Twilight Princess characters. If Young Link gets replaced by Wind Waker Link, it wouldn't be too out of place to have Ocarina of Time Zelda as well.

Clones aside, I'm dubious that any existing characters are getting the axe. Changed maybe (like Link and Mario), but too many people liked using Sheik to just drop her like a hot potato. As a general rule it is a very bad thing to remove (good) features from sequels.
