Just curious, I'm planning to take that day, Oct 31st, off from work (LOL, no work to play video games LOL, how sad, but hey, I've waited damn long enough) and head straight down to the mall at 10:00 AM. Would you think tons of other people, school kids, and the like would do the same and skip school/work? Basically, when you waited in that line, did you try to get in early or was that line up already started WAY before the mall even opened? Then again, my city has like only 1 million people, and out of that how many would wait in line to get that game I don't really know, so....

B4-Hunter Jun 30, 2006 01:54 AM

1st - Its not Japan
2nd - How many of those people are hardcore players that will die to play FF XII 5 min after 10 AM?
3rd - Just be there at 9 AM to be sure you will get one of the first copies.

(Selling a single game can't take long so even if there will be line already you will be there in no time.)

P.S
Do you have scanner? I would like to have scan of US cover right after it is released =)

Motsy Jun 30, 2006 02:29 AM

They didn't add new scenes for the US version, just added voices to some text-only scenes.

Just to let you know, most games do not come out on the "release" day. The date publishers give is the ship date, and 90% of the time the game comes in the next day. Only really big games actually arrive on the ship date. Games like GTA and Halo 2. The FFs do sometimes as well. I remember FFX-2 did. I was told the game would be there at 7pm (talking about GTA here), got there at 7 and there was a huge line.

If it's the case that your EB/GS gets it on the ship date, it won't be there until around 7pm or after. Just call on Oct. 31 and they'll tell you if it'll be in that day or the next. It depends on the number of preorders they get. If they get a lot then the store will pay for same day shipping.

Trust me, there will be a line. Not as long as a GTA or Halo, this isn't Japan as you said, but there will definitely be one. There was one when FFX-2 came out. So if THAT game had a decent sized line, FFXII should have one. Of course that depends on where you live too. Video games seem to be quite popular here. As long as you have it preordered you're all set. You can go anytime you want and pick it up, as long as it has arrived of course.

LOL, but we got a lot of weeaboos, no wait, they'd already have the Jap copies. I did talk to EB when I preordered and asked them if they generally had line ups, and yes, they did have it for the Halo 2, some line up. Also, I think I actually managed to snag a copy of MGS:Subsistence on March 16th, the release date without a preorder, but I consider myself lucky, since the clerk said that he'd normally reserve all these for pre-orderes, and drop in customers like me would normally be SOL, if there was a line up and I didn't have my pre-order.

There wasn't any line up at the actual store, but he said he's gotten a hell lot of phone calls just in the morning, and they hadn't even opened up the boxes yet. So I told the guy, "ahhhh...so that's why people pre-order, so they can be on the top of the picking list, instead of doing the whole hit and miss thing, now I see", as I never really knew what a pre-order was (well, besides knowing that you order it before it's out, but I didn't really know what the advantages were). Silly Spatula. So I told the guy, Jesus Christ, sorry I didn't realize what a hassle this is. For sure I'll order FFXII, and we both nodded in agreement. :tpg:

Simo Jun 30, 2006 12:17 PM

See, I'm now tempted to reserve another copy of the CE because I forgot about the whole MGS3 Subsistence LE fiasco because I ended up selling my copy for over $120.

If the FFXII CE is going to be just as limited then I might be able to make a mint off of that as well.

You can preorder 2 or more copies? Oh. I'm heading out for lunch now, and may preorder VP2. I'll get more details of the CE, then decide if it's dice.

Rei no Otaku Jun 30, 2006 02:06 PM

Unfortunately we won't know about its rarity until it's too late. We'll know when they say they're not taking anymore preorders.

Simo Jul 2, 2006 08:36 PM

The official English site for FFXII is now up:
http://www.finalfantasyxii.com/

Nothing much aside from a trailer featuring a bunch of CG scenes with your typical narration and no samples of the English VO. There is a countdown on the site for when the full site will go live which according to the timer will be in 35 days.

Rei no Otaku Jul 2, 2006 09:32 PM

My favorite part of the trailer: "From the people that brought you Final Fantasy!" Oh really? XD

Zeta26 Jul 2, 2006 11:11 PM

lol Well hey, at least it's a start ^^. Not the best, but I get that they're at least trying to promote the release.

Spatula Jul 2, 2006 11:11 PM

So I just beat FFIX, me now dancing and prancy like a prozaced school kid and talking like Quina. I'll need another RPG fix till XII comes along. Now its VII to X beaten. Looks like I'll check out the trailer to whet my appetite more.

At first I saw the 35 on top and thought that was the countdown to release :tpg:, I AM FOOLISHLY MISTAKEN.

EDIT: About the trailer.

What the hell was that. The narrator or whatever you call him makes it sound so bad. They need someone with a deeper voice and timbre for that. Also, IT'S BEEN YEARS IN THE MAKING, he makes it sound like its a bad thing, which to me reinforces the thought of God, took long enough???.

From the people that brought you Final Fantasy. :tpg: no fucking shit.

Whatever, I'll just sit back and relax for a while.

What was your favorite of those. I have a soft spot for VIII.

You guys seriously have to preorder stuff? You can walk into any store here on the first day of release for any game and get a copy. Same for any console. The Best Buy here has had 360's on the shelves since the first day it was released(no surprise though). The only thing they didn't have in when I went there was when the PS2 was first released.
From what I have seen, heard, and played I have no doubts that XII will be incredible.

Well I'm already counting down individual days for FFXII, so yes, hello mega hype drive. And yes, I have a soft spot for VIII, something about the characters and the whole setting somehow drives me for more XII, since it seems to be somewhat close in terms of story. I liked X, but on reflection, it was a very shallow game. VII is fun but I don't see what everyone goes bonkers over it. Oh wait, I should include VI in FF's beaten.

Hey, it's my first time preordering a game, so why not FFXII to kick it off, a first for everything (although I preordred VP2 after that, but VP2 is supposed to come out sooner).

I have FFX-2, perhaps I'll get my FF fix from this for the time being??? LOL $19.99.

Well it really has been in the making for a LONG time now, from what I remember they kept redoing things and starting over to get it right which is a good thing.

Spatula Jul 3, 2006 12:41 AM

I know, which is why I LOL'ed outta my seat when they said " IT'S BEEN YEARS IN THE MAKING" or some shit like that. How true how true.

Take a look at this Gamespy article, anticipating XII would come out last year:

If you really liked X you will probably like X-2. Just expect some character differences, a bit more comedy than usual, and more cheerful music.

The longer the delay the better the game.

I'd say the opposite. If you liked X, don't torture yourself and play X-2. That game is awful, and it will make you cry. Cry because of how they raped your favorite characters.

I definitely do. You don't preorder something like a FF game, you will not get it day 1. Video games are very popular where I live. As I mentioned earlier, big games can have lines over 3 hours long.

What? We get to rape Rikku? I'm IN!

lol.

It really didn't bother me that they changed the characters attitudes and gave them a make over. I think it was faithful to the FF games of past by making the game fun and involving. Anyway, it was the first FF to get a sequel and enjoyed going through meeting all of the characters over again and seeing some familiar places.

Spatula Jul 3, 2006 11:13 AM

Speaking of which, I wonder how many dumbass EB games/Gamestop employees will get FFXII and FFX-2 mixed up.

<Spatula>I'm here to pick up my preorder of FINAL FANTASY TWELVE.

<Clerk> :brings out FFX-2: Is this it sir?

<Spatula> Eerrrr....no.

<Clerk> But it's cheaper, you don't want FFXII now, do you? FFX-2! It's only $19.99! You don't want to spend an extra $40 now do you?

<Spatula>No, I already have FFX-2, and it's a piece of shit, but I'll play it anyways, now give my my FINAL FUCKING FANTASY TWELVE.

<Clerk> But sir!!! It's only $19.99 surely, YOU CAN USE ANOTHER COPY! DON'T YOU SEE? I'M TRYING TO RIP YOU OFF BY GETTING RID OF OLD INVENTORY, NOW PLEASE!!!!!!!

<Spatula> :tpg:

>_>

Hey, it could happen, LIKE IT DID TO THIS GUY.

'sup infernal. :tpg:

I've already experienced something like this.

I asked about FFXII a few months ago, and one of the employees at EB Games claimed that the game had been out for years already. I assumed he meant X-2, so I had to explain the difference.

lol, but am I the only one who heard "From the creators of Final Fantasy"? Nevermind, I'll rewatch the trailer. The first time around I had really bad background music.

Heck, customers here even get those 2 mixed up. They saw the Japanese version of FFXII and went 'hey did they change the cover or something?' Also, last year 2 teenagers who saw FFX on the shelve went 'Hey it's FF-AXE!' made me cringe.

Those buzz words are downright embarrassing. The reason its been "the most anticipated RPG" its because its been hyped while it is "years in the making". Now they are going to do the same with 13. Seriously, I rather like surprises (in a good way), but that's not going to happend when they hype our expectations.
