If you don't want that, then why exactly are you interested in MGS? :p

This will be the last of the metal gear series supposedly and its going to be on blue ray which holds so much more memory.
I think you better get ready for long winded talks and 30 minute cut scenes.

Hey shenlon , i also got floored on meryl's new face, stunning.
Want a favor, if you can take pic of "her face" from side ways, when she comes with roadblock and snakeeyes, i mean forces...lol. Want to make avatar.
Her face from side.

Megalith Jul 13, 2007 03:40 PM

How long does MGS4 take place after MGS.

Meryl looks too old to me.

Ahhh! Now the scene makes a little more sense now. As Vamp something like "You're immortal too?" implying that they have previously met again. No doubt their first re-encounter must have caused Raiden to have sustained some serious injuries. Man, that would also explain why Raiden's blood was white too.

Ahh, one can dream though. Now I'm very curious as to how the rest of that sequence is gonna play out, cause Old Snake doesn't exactly stand a chance against Vamp's speed. It would kinda suck if Vamp wasn't a boss (like Ocelot in MGS2), then again his grudge is against Raiden and not Snake.

Yea, I was really hoping that she would retain her accent from the MGS performances. But now it looks like they're going with the TTS perfomances (continuity wise), meaning Mei Ling is losing the accent too. Heh, this is gonna be confusing for those who never played TTS.

Well I'm hoping we learn more about Vamp and what he is along with his history with Snake who leads you to believe he knew alot more about Vamp than he tells during MGS2.

I liked the accents too as again it makes the localisation and VO alot more interesting but Naomi losing it isn't all that bad either. Heck you could theorise that even the British accent was a fake given that she wasn't actually the real Naomi Hunter to begin with.

Watching the trailer over and over again and it's fun to find even more details like say, Johnathan's mohawk shaped like an "!" exclamation point or the Policenaughts reference involving Meryl, Johnathan and the rest of the team which might not have the hooded soldier actually being Raiden. For those interested the SOP that's referenced in the trailer stands for Standard Operating Procedure which is how a military unit operates in the event of no specific directives or orders are assigned, which in MGS4 is most likely governed by the unit's nanomachines going by the previous trailer. If Liquid can take control of a unit's SOP then it'll allow them to have full control of the entire unit and allow him to issue his own commands.

Don't forget that Sony's press event is on Tuesday where Kojima will showcasing MGS4 live on stage to the press so we might hear some details as soon as Monday night. Then a week from then on the 24th is the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Event where Kojima will again demo the game. :D

Rock Jul 16, 2007 03:25 PM

Can someone explain to me why they released a 5.1 audio trailer on PSN when the PS3 isn't even capable of decoding 5.1 on downloaded videos?

Musharraf Jul 16, 2007 03:30 PM

The trailer that can be downloaded from PSN Store is okay. The first half is good, the second half is just tremendously homosexual and sucks. I was like "what the hell is this shit" when I watched the trailer :/ This is going to be a good game, though, I hope it won't be too expensive

Simo Jul 17, 2007 05:00 PM

Some new info from the Sony event where MGS4 was shown live on stage with the following being shown what you can do and what was revealed by Kojima during the presentation:
  • You can pretend to be dead by using the OCTOCAM.
  • New moves include being able to roll sideways while laying down, crawling forward by the hip high and down and being able to throw grenades while face up.
  • You can take enemies weapons away from them.
  • New weapon revealed being an electric stun knife to stun enemies.
  • Steel drums and trashcans can be used to hide in like cardboard boxes and provide a more stable and stronger cover than the boxes.
  • You can run and roll while in a steel drum but doing too much rolling makes Snake sick and vomit. To cure this you can distract Snake by flipping through a sexy magazine that now contains multiple pages which you can flip through. Like wise you can again use the magazine to distract enemy soldiers.
  • Disadvantages to the steel drums and trashcans is that hiding in them for too long adds a bad smell to Snake making it easier for the enemy to discover and find you.
  • Different viewpoints in the game that can be changed include an over-the-shoulder view and First Person. You can even play the entire game in the First Person view and controlling the crosshairs with the SIXAXIS.
  • You can also use the SIXAXIS to enable and disable the OCTOCAM.
  • Another use for the SIXAXIS is the ability to control support mechs and the Metal Gear MKII. The MKII also has it's own stealth mode making it harder for enemies to spot it.

No pictures or footage...Yet.

Some of the info is old since they were showcased in last year's TGS trailer but there's also some good new info in there too. Seems like next week's show will have alot more with it being Metal Gear's 20th anniversary and Konami commented that Metal Gear Online will be revealed at that time too.

Konami also put up the Japanese version of the E3 trailer which pretty much confirms that soldier who is unaffected by Liquid isn't Raiden given it's a totally different VA.

Hantei Jul 17, 2007 05:49 PM

Hmm, sounds like Kojima will be going with the SIXAXIS feature and isn't gonna wait out for the rumble. Cause remember reading he was gonna implement an alternate feature if a rumble controller wasn't released/announced in time (as he wanted rumble for the game instead).

Haha, all the new features sound nice. I like how staying in a trash can or steel drum for too long will cause you to smell. Many different viewpoints is a nice touch, I wonder the ol' top view one will be available as well. Heh, and love how you can use the magazines to remedy your motion sickness and how it has multiple pages this time.

Can't wait to see what MGO is gonna be like now too. Ohh, I hope a playable demo hits up the PSN soon.

Damn you're right, I wonder who he is then. Since the camera is somewhat fixated on him in the trailer...

And wow the lines in the japanese trailer sound somewhat different (well, duh I know they're in different languages, but content wise). Eg. The dialogue between Meryl and Snake's during the closing of the first half of the trailer, Snake's last line in japanese doesn't like he says same thing in english. Man, I hope Cam Clarke returns to portray Liquid, it just isn't the same without him. The japanese version of the trailer doesn't really give hope of his possible return either, since it doesn't sound like they tried to get someone to mimic Ocelot's deceased japanese VA.

EDIT:
Ok, did anyone else catch the MPO+ trailer!?! Man, new characters: Raiden, Johnny, Genome soldiers, Gurlukovich soldiers, Arsenal Tengu's, SEALs, and even Old Snake. New maps, such as the hanger room for Rex from MGS and some from MGO. And a piano version of "Calling to the Night" played at the beginning, pretty nice. Heh, plus a nice little closer at the end.

GameSpot now has up some great, in-depth impressions of the demo:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6175206.html
Quote:

Hopping down the building from where Snake started, the aged soldier approached a set of familiar bronze statues last seen in the Tokyo Game Show trailer. Here, Kojima went to the menu screen and selected the active camouflage option, where players can access disguises for Snake's face and body. Snake normally wears an all-purpose "Octo-Cam" camouflage suit, which lets him blend into his surroundings. However, apparently there are other selectable camouflage patterns in the game, one of which is called the "Statue-Cam." Kojima selected the Statue-Cam and an appropriate face mask, and--voila!--Snake's camouflage suit displayed a bronze finish. The PMC soldiers then walked by, mistaking the grizzled commando for a statue.
Shame we have to deal with more menus for the camouflage but it looks like it'll only be for optional or limited face masks so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

Quote:

Kojima revealed that Snake can take his enemy's weapons in MGS4, and CQC isn't the only way to get them--holdups can also be effective. When Snake put a gun against an unaware soldier, the grunt raised both of his hands in the air, dropping his weapon to the ground and shivering. The holdup in MGS4 looks a lot more realistic than in the previous games. While keeping his gun pointed at the enemy, Snake used his other hand to frisk for items all over the soldier's body. He also seems to have gained a new move that involves delivering a death grip to an enemy's crotch, rendering that person unconscious in an instant.
Awesome.

Quote:

To help fight off one of the PMC soldiers, Kojima showed Snake's new best friend, the Metal Gear MKII. By selecting MKII from the item inventory, the player can take control of it and move around in either first- or third-person view. (Snake is seen crouching on the ground with his hands on the MKII's remote controller--which is an exact replica of a Sixaxis gamepad.) And while the stealthy MKII may seem small and harmless, it can knock out enemies with a powerful knock of electricity.
Quote:

As the demo neared its end, Kojima showed off some more weapons that can be used in Guns of the Patriots. He used an RPG-7 to explode a tank, an AK-102 rifle to shoot some enemies on the roof, and a P90 to take out remaining soldiers on the ground.

Kojima pointed out that while he had been attacking PMC soldiers and helping out the civilian guerrillas in the demo, it's really up to the player to decide which side to be on--or to not side with either of them.
Quote:

Overall, Guns of the Patriots defaults to the same kind of third-person view as previous MGS installments. The basic interface has been kept intact as well, with the item itinerary on the bottom left side of the screen and the weapons itinerary on the bottom right.

One addition to the heads-up display that wasn't in previous installments was a semitransparent, illustrated icon on the bottom of the screen that appeared whenever Snake was near an object that he could interact with, such as a wall, an unconscious enemy, or a ledge. Another such object was a dumpster in an alley, which Snake hid in until enemy soldiers cleared out. But since it's full of garbage, Kojima noted that Snake would start to smell if he stayed inside the dumpster too long, making himself more obvious to enemies. As he came out of hiding, Snake was surrounded by a swarm of buzzing flies, though shaking the Sixaxis controller seemed to swat them away.

Hantei Jul 19, 2007 05:29 AM

Man, I hope a demo pops up real soon on the PSN as I'm sure I'll be aching to try it out once vids of HK demoing the game hits the net.

Oh and for those that are interested, the Japanese version of the E3 trailer just hit the Japanese PSN. Go make yourself an account if you haven't already, as it may prove useful in the future (eg. demos that may be released there before the NA PSN).

Hu? No Snake Eater Subsistence style freely rotatable 3rd person cam any more?
If so, that's bad news. :(

Well that's just the default camera. You can adjust and change it to a number of options according to GameSpot including having the camera behind Snake and having over the shoulder aiming or playing the entire game in First Person view, so the Subsistence camera might be an option in there too.

The Kojima Productions Report Session 049 is now up:

Interesting things of note in the podcast include Metal Gear Portable Ops+ originally going to be called Infinity War and the good news that there will be a gameplay video from MGS4 posted online after the event, there's just no specific date but it'll be between the 24th and August 20th. The bad news however is that if they're going to post it on their site then it'll be in low res like all their other videos.

randomwab Jul 20, 2007 09:07 AM

Another worth while podcast to listen to this week is the MGS TUS. They have an interview with Jeremy Blaustein, the translator for the first MGS, as well as Snatcher, Symphony of the Night and the Silent Hill series.

It has some interesting opinions of Kojima, especially post Metal Gear Solid 1.

@randomwab
That was a very, very good podcast. Thanks for letting me know about it, it was quite insightful to a bunch of respective game franchises.

Always did think the dialogue in MGS1 was better then 2, now I know why. However the team who did the translation/VA direction for MGS3/PO are the same people doing it for MGS4 so a repeat of MGS2 should not be the case.

Simo Jul 23, 2007 04:35 PM

A little belated but now we have some snaps of the MGS4 presentation at the Sony event last week.

Naturally the photogs have the worst seats in the joint:
http://www.meristation.com/EPORTAL_I...d01/inicio.JPG

Rest here:

From the first 2 images you get a good idea of the 2 different camera options from the over-the-shoulder RE4 style camera and what looks like the Subsistence camera.

The 20th anniversary event kicks off in 11 hours and 1UP will be covering it at least so some news might start to crawl out at 4:30am EST..

Additional Spam:
Event is over and the official site is updated with new screenshots of MGS4 and MGO along with trailers for Portable Ops+ and MGS2 Digital Comic:
http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/event2007/index-en.html

Aside from the live demonstration of MGS4 and officially unveiling Vamp, Kojima also revealed another character returning: Eva:
http://tinypic.ca/files/yvqmdld2ntmkgk4tmlmm.jpg
http://tinypic.ca/files/uyfzjzamjknzexnwnz00.jpg

Theres also a new Metal Gear game for cellphones where Sony will also release a special MGS edition phone with the game pre-installed. Alot of announcements about MG products including figures, food, drink, clothing...everything! I'm kind of wondering what these are as they seem like the Medicom 12" figures but I don't recall MGS2 Snake and Raiden ever being released so hopefully this is a new line:

That's about it for the show.

Oh I also forget to mention that signups for the MGO Beta started today!

Sexninja Jul 24, 2007 09:02 AM

The video, 14 minutes of it will hit around midnight today or morning tommorow, depending upon timezone.

Slayer X Jul 24, 2007 09:21 AM

WOW! What an awesome surprise, Eva's back. That's gonna be COOL!

Thoes figures look sweet too. I goota catch 'em all ;)

Aardark Jul 24, 2007 11:27 AM

The gameplay demonstration is available, you can get it here: http://www.gamersyde.com/leech_4139_1_en.html (torrent and direct link)

Or try the streaming version here: http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/13378 (if you can get it to work while it's being hammered by thousands, that is)

Edit: Gametrailers is pretty much the best option at the moment

Gechmir Jul 24, 2007 11:37 AM

Holy shit. Eva??? I completely forgot about her possibly being in this... Heh. Very, very nice development =D

I'm also confused about using enemy weapons. I could've sworn a trailer mentioned ID-tagged weapons, meaning only the proper owner could use them. Did they scrap this idea? Or does Snake have some countermeasure on his outfit? Or can he only use the "guerilla" faction's "simpler" weapons upon disarming?

Aardark Jul 24, 2007 11:44 AM

Weapons being ID-tagged was a feature in Sons of Liberty, I don't think anything about that has been mentioned in regards to Guns of the Patriots.

Edit: okay, I must have missed that then.

Inhert Jul 24, 2007 11:50 AM

yes the first trailer they showed and even the 15min trailer of MGS4 mention about ID tag weapon...

eprox1 Jul 24, 2007 01:22 PM

Ugh. I can't figure out how to sign up for the beta :(.

http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/mgo_beta/

Do you need a Konami ID in addition to your PSN ID or something?

Pokey Jul 24, 2007 02:03 PM

If the grave in the trailer is the Boss', then Eva is most likely there to fill Old Snake in about SE and Big Boss/The Boss in general. Making her a walking plot device, or something. (Or maybe she was the willing host mother to the Snake children back in LET? Not that it would really matter since she gave no DNA)
