I can't believe you just tried to compare Lyn to a pot and a dodgily made Homer Simpson sprite.

FatsDomino Sep 11, 2007 05:01 PM

Excuse me, I was referring to ALL ASSIST TROPHY CHARACTERS and not Lyn specifically, smart ass. >:I

Also, what's this "tried" business? I totally went there. Didn't even break a sweat.

The Plane Is A Tiger Sep 11, 2007 05:09 PM

I was only a little disappointed because I'd read it wrong and thought she was marked as a new character. Honestly, she'll likely work much better as an assist trophy than she ever would have as a Marth replacement. I wonder how long she stays around to help, since her attack sounds like a much faster version of Scyther (and whatever his evolved form in Melee was).

I saw your post yesterday(today or whatever)I was supposed to be studying, but since i was not, and I was browsing GFF, I decided to pay a visit to this thread. I saw your post and I felt sooooooo happy, then I checked the official page, and it all ended in disappointment T_T

She would be awesome as a character, I mean, she is faster than any sword wielding character we already had in previous Smash Bros.( and almost one of the fastest lords in all FE), besides she is a girl, I insist , we need a girl with a sword in Smash, and not only as an assist trophy, but as a normal character.

And I agree with AcerBandit, most assist characters are a disappointment, characters like Knuckle Joe, Lyn and Goroh should be totally playable, they have enough move possibilities. But with assist trophies...just "heart-broken" fans everywhere T_T.

Lyn FTW! (even if she will be just 5 seconds in battle)

FatsDomino Sep 11, 2007 08:58 PM

I'm not sure you got the point of my post but okay.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 11, 2007 10:59 PM

I'm all for GBA Fire Emblem references and stuff, but Lyn's character model looks pretty crummy.

Oh well. Maybe tonight means Hector.

chaofan Sep 11, 2007 11:31 PM

While we're still on the topic of Fire Emblem, should they include another Fire Emblem character what would it be?

I've heard rumblings of Black Knight (from GCN Fire Emblem) but when you think about it, if Ike is supposed to replace Roy as the newer, slower FE character then the other series representation would most likely be the Lord from the 2nd FE (don't know the title names -_-'). New FE character, historic FE character.

Y'know what? The release dates for countries other than the US haven't been released. Sakurai! WHEN'S MY SSBB COMING HERE???

I got it, but I added my point of view.

I think Assists are a lazy way to add characters, most fans (including me) end up disappointed instead of excited or hyped. T_T

Yes, Lyn looks strange, but still Lyn is Lyn. At least now I can wait for Hector (but 2 blue haired guys and from FE, not likely), since Lyn is in :P. Oh and they should add a "historic" FE character. Ike is from the "new" generation, so please some blast from the past :P

But Assist Trophies are an outlet that allow you to see characters in Brawl who otherwise would not be in the game.

A lot of people are taking the stance that Assist Trophies are preventing their favorites from being playable, but in reality they wouldn't have even been in the game.

It's just another reason for people to piss and moan about something good.

FatsDomino Sep 12, 2007 07:52 AM

Yup, Black Mage gets it. =)

In other news, the Halberd is fucking awesome as usual. Of course its stage will be banned from tourneys b/c omg arm interferes with mah combos and FIRIN' MAH LZR makes me waaaah waaah waaaah.

RacinReaver Sep 12, 2007 09:16 AM

Can someone explain to me why FE has such a huge following anyway? I think I remember trying one out a long time ago and not really being that impressed.

Final Fantasy Phoneteen Sep 12, 2007 10:05 AM

They're usually pretty good Strategy-RPGs. They were better when they were really hard, though.

But I'm not sure why people go nuts for them over other good games in the genre as well. Might have something to do with its relation to Advance Wars.

The funniest thing ever would be if Brawl didn't have Final Destination or a similar stage. Amidst the cries of ten thousand tourney-fags, Nintendo would issue a press-release stating "We wanted to gear this game more towards the casual crowd." Laughs would be had. Tears would be shed.

Macksis Sep 12, 2007 03:16 PM

I never quite understood why levels were banned from tourneys. Seems kinda self defeating in a way.

chibilola Sep 12, 2007 05:45 PM

There's like no secrets to this game huh, everything has to be up front and known before it's even released. Don't get me wrong, it's most definitely going to be a top seller this year.

By the way did anyone play (or know about) the game demo that Nintendo allow at UCLA last year? I'm so confused, they were playing brawl at UCLA last year and it's just now being released? Why would they stretch out the release when the game was pretty much fully done last year?

So because they're showing info and features that are in fact not secrets (since they are revealed and have therefore no secrecy to them), that somehow means they're revealing everything there is?

Should the feature list read AND MUCH MUCH MORE so we can all go "Whew! Glad I'm told that's not all there is to it!"?

Cheezeman3000 Sep 12, 2007 11:55 PM

I would assume it's taking them so long because they need to balance out the characters just right. They could've had the game engine, extras, graphics, music, etc. done a while ago, but in order for the game to really be successful they need to strike the perfect balance between all the characters. I would assume that could take a while, even a year, to achieve, especially when considering all the testing that needs to be done. A game like this, in which someone can spend hours mastering a particular character, needs a perfect balance.

Kanzaki Sep 13, 2007 02:31 AM

The new update is nice, I mean a battle with infinite bunny hood, or metal box (we can assume they are coming back :P) and you can change the gravity, something I wanted to do after playing Multi-man melee.

Cheezeman3000 Sep 13, 2007 02:35 AM

Looks like a LOT of fun actually. I just wish there were more statuses (than just curry or reflect), but then again, I'm used to Final Fantasy having 50 bajillion so I guess that may be an unreasonable standard.

Sin Ansem Sep 13, 2007 07:01 AM

The only thing that sours me about this update is the fact that you still can't adjust HP in Stamina mode.

Oh, that and items can't be applied individually.

Other than that, nice update.

Chaotic Sep 13, 2007 10:42 AM

I've always wanted to have a Metal Battle with the specific battle music that went with it in Classic Mode in Melee. I like this update. :)

Elmoogle Sep 13, 2007 12:31 PM

I've always wanted to be able to apply things like giant and metal to one character only so that I could recreate event battles with actual people.

Cheezeman3000 Sep 13, 2007 01:39 PM

I've always wanted a mixture of metal and less gravity so that you can jump around easier, but that may just be me. Either way I get my wish now :).

Probably because item drops and dynamic levels introduces a level of randomness into the matches. The tourney crowd wants to focus entirely on personal gameplay skills, I'd imagine.

Which of course is completely missing the entire point of Super Smash Bros.
