Yes, this' for the PS2. Or, rather this' the last Final Fantasy chapter on PS2. This and Dirge of Cerberus would be the final chapters on the system. Which FFXIII and FF Versus XIII would be only for the PS3.

Jamma Jun 26, 2006 03:49 PM

Phew. I have no idea how 11 plays and what changes they've made compared to the previous games but as long as it sticks true to them still I'll be a happy chappy :)

Yes, PS2 exclusive.

And, by the way, FFXI was designed around the PS2. The PC version was a port that eventually became the prefered platform due to a much greater performance.

Jamma Jun 26, 2006 04:22 PM

Yeah, I heard that. Damn shame. I might have to check a review on 12 tomorrow when/if I get time.

(note to self, read all the new post before making a new post XD)

Jamma Jun 26, 2006 05:05 PM

Tell me about it! I've been living hermit-styley for the past 3 years! :D

Doesn't the PS2 need net capabilities for 11 though? Sorry I should've been more specific.

What. XI was for both PS2 and PC, and most recently the Xbox 360. Although I hear the PS2 version is the most expensive with the HDD and network adaptar, keyboard, and not to forget the game itself, and this is all before monthly charges, just like the 2 other counterparts.

EDIT: Actually I'm starting to think the Xbox 360 has pretty high start up costs as well, I'm just seeing if I can pin down a figure.

And to answer your question, yes, Final Fantasy XII will be released in North America for the PS2 this October, given the news/reports circulating so far.

B4-Hunter Jun 27, 2006 03:15 AM

I have to ask this question once again. Do any of you guys can scan me Japanese cover from FF XII?? I need 300 DPI scan with descanning filter on. I could only find 150 DPI scan. So anyone?

Oh and here is mine quick: » Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria Vs Final Fantasy XII~!!

For the extra $10, gamers will get a bonus DVD with developer interviews, featurettes about the series, Japanese and American promotional trailers, and an art gallery.

Shit, and I was actually going to take time off from October 2nd to play this. LOL vacation time just to play games LOL. Good thing nothing's booked.

As long as they don't change the release date of VP2, then I'm happy. If VP 2 comes on September 19th, it'll keep me busy for a month or so, and then some after.

Simo Jun 28, 2006 03:06 PM

Well at least we have a solid release date. EBgames is already offering the 'Collector's Edition' for preorder claiming "limited quantities" but I went ahead and preordered a copy anyway. :)

Spatula Jun 28, 2006 08:37 PM

1. It'd be hilariously awesome if someone dressed up as the Judge and picked up their pre-order the same day. Awesome timing with Hallowe'en.

2. I just called my local EB Games and they don't have a SKU for the CE yet, which sucks. I've got a bad premonition that FFXII in Canada will get shafted just like how the MGS3: Subsistence LE was released JUST in the US. I preordered this a week ago, and was afraid that the preorder was only for the regular edition, but the clerk put a note on it that if they have the CE, then I'm willing for paying more for it, obviously. This is one of the times where I'd actually not mind living south of the boarder. You Canadians heard it here first.

Motsy Jun 29, 2006 12:19 AM

Fucking sweet news. The best FF ever gets the first CE. Here's hoping they up the audio quality for the US version.

Soldier Jun 29, 2006 12:23 AM

What's wrong with the audio quality? If they're going to improve on the original, give us a damn widescreen format.

It's nice that they're finally doing special editions, and it's for a game that very much deserves a special edition (must be tons of pre concepts and stories). The date sucks though, because it'll likely be delayed by a couple of days, putting it in November.

Motsy Jun 29, 2006 12:24 AM

Music quality ingame isn't as good as on the OST. And yes, give me some widescreen, SE! >_<

Soldier Jun 29, 2006 12:37 AM

You mean it's compressed? Ugh, it's FFVII (and one winged angel) all over again. :(

As you could see on game rip there is a lot of tracks in game. If you will boost quality of all of them you will cross the DVD 5 limit for sure then game will be on DVD 9. Besides music quality isn't bad at all.

November 1st at the latest depending on where you are but there should be no problem getting this on October 31st.

Also the press release from Square Enix makes it sound like they added new cutscenes just for the NA version:
Quote:

Features
  • Completely new voiced cut-scenes added for the North American release
  • Gorgeous CG cinematics and cut-scenes in Dolby® Pro Logic II combined with real-time graphics rivaling those of next-gen titles
  • Shocking plot twists take players on an unforgettable journey
  • Active Dimension Battle (ADB) system, enables players to move seamlessly between exploration and combat
  • Highly customizable Gambit system allows complete control over character AI during battles
  • License board gives the player the ability to customize each character's skills and abilities

CuteChocobo Jun 29, 2006 11:42 AM

awww... I think I pre-ordered the standard version~ I think the limited one will be a good collection to have. Dunno if they will let me change the order *fingers crossed*

Wow, added CGs... that is sure worth the wait~~!

I said PC based. As in with all the prepherials you need to have with the PS2 you might as well have the bloody thing on there. So there. :)

Damn people, stop picking holes in my sentences! :cussing:

Spatula Jun 29, 2006 01:18 PM

Well, the way that you phrased it had me, as well as Inhert, interpreting that you were not too sure which platforms XI or XII were on. Don't worry about it.

Give them a call and see if they even have a SKU for the CE, then just ask (I'm assuming you're going with EB Games here), if they can put a note on your preorder that you'd like the CE.

Rei no Otaku Jun 29, 2006 07:31 PM

Just preordered the CE at EB. I don't want a repeat of what happened to me with the limited edition of Subsistance.

Please, do tell me about it, since Canada didn't get the LE of Subsistence. FFXII is the first game I've preordered, and while trying to reach for the CE, I've got a bad feeling about shit hitting the fan come Hallowe'en. I just want to get in, show them my receipt of the pre-order, have a nice long look at the CE in my hands, grab the walkthrough guide, whip out my CC and whatever gift certificates and even that $1 credit on my EB card, then GTFO.

Somehow, I doubt it'll be anywhere remotely this smooth in 4 months time.

Basically it was very limited. They stopped taking preorders on the Subsistance LE like a month, maybe less, after they announced it. Even then some people didn't get theirs. That's why I went right out and put my $5 down this time. I'm sure FFXII will be more popular than MGS3.

It should be smooth. I've preordered a lot of games, and never had a problem. Just have to make sure for things like special editions, you do it early enough. The only time I didn't have an easy time was with GTA: San Andreas. Only because it was a 3 hour wait in line for that game, and that was the preorder line! It was easy in the sense that I got my copy when I got to the front, but damn that was a long line.
