YouTube - Startropics (Wii) Letter Decoder sums up quite nicely the how what when where and why of the letter puzzle.

Hmmm, I had no idea such a thing existed. To reiterate: the original was quite fun...

Today's update:

Pac-Attack (SNES)
Riot Zone (TG-16)

So, Pac-Attack is the only one of these (two what the fuck why not more) that I've played; it's an OK puzzle game, but it's not that great, either. Riot Zone is a side-scrolling brawler. OK.

SuperSonic Jan 14, 2008 07:15 PM

Never played either of these games, but why only two games? There are so many games in the libraries of all the classic consoles that could be released, games that have already been rated by the ESRB.

RABicle Jan 14, 2008 07:31 PM

HAH! Still no Harvest Moon for North Americans.

Infernal Monkey Jan 14, 2008 07:41 PM

I still need to get some poooiiiints for Harvest Moon.

Oh man, Pac-Attack. One Christmas I had this gift card thing for Toys U Be. Pac-Attack and Plok were both within the magical price grasp of the cards power. Imagine if I'd chosen Pac-Attack instead of Plok. Society would have collapsed! THOSE DAMN FLEAS.

Also Cruis'n USA has been confirmed to hit the VC someplace, possibly the internet.

FatsDomino Jan 14, 2008 08:16 PM

We still don't have Harvest Moon and you guys still don't have StarTropics. Nintendo cancelled Goldeneye and other Rare N64 games from both appearing on VC and XBLA. What a load of jerks!

Infernal Monkey Jan 14, 2008 08:20 PM

We got StarTropics last week actually. :3: First time it's been released here! Stupid Nintendo, I want Blast Corps on the VC. ... Or.. on.. cartridge.. to the pawn shop!

FatsDomino Jan 14, 2008 08:30 PM

Oh, well then you guys just suck. >=I

Damn it, I'm still pissed about that. We were two months away from having some awesomeness on both the Wii and XBLA. What was the reason again, they couldn't figure out the royalties or something?

FatsDomino Jan 14, 2008 08:52 PM

No, Iwata just didn't want a game that Nintendo completely funded and made popular that was a game for their system on a competitor's system. That's it.

Honestly, if Nintendo and Microsoft (and in this case also Activision who currently holds the Bond license) would just split any sales of Rare N64 games on the VC or XBLA that of course aren't Donkey Kong 64 everyone would win. Nintendo could be making some money through this ordeal at best no matter what but now they're making zip. It's such a shame because Reggie was really trying to make this work. Japan didn't even care about Goldeneye so seriously fuck Iwata.

Nintendonomicon Feb 17, 2008 04:25 AM

We're gonna have quite a good monday next week as two great titles will see their VC release. I'm talking about Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (NES) and Phantasy Star II (GEN).

I don't know you, guys, but I think the third Ninja Gaiden is probably the damn hardest of the trilogy. As for PSII, I'm a SNES guy so I've never played it. I need to make a budget and purchase some Genesis games.

SuperSonic Feb 17, 2008 02:34 PM

I'm not horribly excited about Ninja Gaiden III, partly because it truly was the hardest out of the trilogy. They took away your shadow clones (and that was a damn useful technique in the 2nd one) and replaced it with your sword having a longer reach. Honestly, what good did that do? Plus, the story wasn't as good as the 2nd one either. I played the game on an emulator, so I save stated the hell out of that game...I couldn't imagine how hard it would've been for people who actually owned it unless they had a Game Genie.

wvlfpvp Feb 17, 2008 03:17 PM

PSII is sweet. Fuckin' sweet.

Levelgrinding liek whut.

Infernal Monkey Feb 22, 2008 01:27 AM

Fuck yeeeessss Street Gangs (River City Ransom) hit the PAL VC today. Also!

Later this year Wii owners will be able to download and play C64 games, beginning with International Karate and Uridium. Nintendo promises that these titles “will be bolstered by regular updates to the line-up from the Commodore 64 back catalogue”.

The C64 titles, which will be downloadable from the Wii Shop Channel for 500 Wii points each, are currently only slated for European release.
500 points? You stop serving breakfast at 10:30? Horse shit! I'd totally get California/Winter/Summer Games though, and Last Ninja 2 (greatiresticalest music in a game ever).

FatsDomino Feb 22, 2008 11:10 AM

River City Ransom!!!!!! Okay so what good NES games are left now? Can it be time for SNES hit catalog? =o

Clearly they aren't selling those C64 games at a high enough price. 2000 points would be the only fair way to do it.

nuttyturnip Feb 22, 2008 11:17 AM

I've got River City Ransom for GBA, but having a save state feature would be a welcome addition.

Where's my mother fucking Super Mario RPG.:mad::mad:

speculative Feb 22, 2008 12:32 PM

I've just picked up SMB3 on VC and noticed that in the first level there is a "cascading" effect on the right-hand side of the screen when you move forward. (Blocks of color appear/disappear, similar to artifacting in 3D games.) Is this normal, due to the secret warp whistle behind-the-graphics hidden feature of this level? I couldn't remember from the original game. Or, is it crummy emulation?

Jurassic Park Chocolate Raptor Feb 22, 2008 12:35 PM

It's always been like that.

I'd hold out more for the DS version of Super Mario RPG instead...but that doesn't look too likely either =/

What I want is my Earthbound! Even though I have the old cartridge (somewhere...) I'd love to see it on the VC. It would be awesome if we could get the versions unreleased in the states as well...but one step at a time.

505 Games owns the rights to it now? What? Really? Hahuauhauauhahuahua, this amuses me more than it should. 505 is my favorite Stupid Lisa Garbage Face publisher.

Step one: Super Smash Bros. Brawl invigorates the public's awareness of Mother.

Step two: Nintendo releases Mother or Earthbound or both on the Virtual Console.

Step three: Mother 3 is released as a stand-alone title or a bundle on the DS.

Step four: Dance! Or, if you can't dance, just stomp and clap until you get tired or lose feeling in your limbs.

Nintendonomicon Feb 24, 2008 01:07 AM

This february 25th, the VC will see Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (N64) and Psychosis (TG16).

Dammit, Nintendo, where is my Sunset Riders? I know Konami should have submitted that one months ago for approval and release!
