Thanks to what would be my grandfather from my mothers side's St Lucian-ness, I have a bit of a chin and moustace facial hair thing going on. Hardly any at all on the cheeks.

Also I dunno why, but I don't like it very much and pretty much shave every 2 days at least. :/ I'm probably one of the few who doesn't wish to grow a goatee just yet.

Also, on this note, remember when you were little? When you thought it'd be really cool to shave? Yeah, "I cn't wait 4 my beerd to start growing at will be awesoem" feeling? God, I am so gonna go back and punch the past me in the tits for thinking that.

When I was 15 my electric shaver broke, and as it turned out I could already grow the full beard. So I did, though I did later get another shaver to keep it shorter and to shave under my eyes. I haven't been clean-shaven in 7 years and I can't imagine going beardless now.

For the most part I prefer to go clean shaven. My tool of choice is a Mach 3 (regular), but I've been experimenting with the new Fusion razor with mixed feelings. I've occasional worn a small soul patch or a well trimmed and shaped goatee, but really like the feeling and look of a smooth face (or with very slight stubble).

This is the most I've ever worn on my face, and was a month and a half of growth:

I shaved today, but my beard was a little thicker than yours, Electric. Not by a ton. But it feels weird. I look like young tyke whenever I look in the mirror =( AND MY FACE IS COLD.

Fleshy Fun-Bridge Jun 22, 2006 01:02 PM

I might have kept growing it, but the job I have forbids facial hair (I was on disability leave for the duration of growth seen here). That and I lacked a facial hair trimmer to keep the thing looking even.

Once I can get past the first week--where the stuff itches like a mofo--I would have kept growing my beard provided I had a way of grooming it. But, since I have no trimmer I just took my clippers without guard, chopped it all off and finished it with a blade.

I have that same sweater lol. And I'm so fuzzy because I haven't shaved for like 2 weeks.

I've never been interested much in growing a mustache, I stick to stubble or clean shaven. Work at the office requires me to look fairly dressy for conferences and meeting bankers so I'm lucky that I can get away with stubble, since its an absolute bitch to have a proper close shave for me.

I only ever once grew a beard/mustache, when I was travelling over to the US for two weeks and it hadn't occurred to me power points were going to be different over there. I only had an electric razor at the time and there was no-where nearby to buy a regular one, so I couldn't shave for two weeks. My girlfriend actually drove past me at the airport when she came to pick me up when I got back, not realising it was me under the beard.

So no, beards are not my thing.

As a side note, girls with hair anywhere between short to shoulder length are A-OK, anything past that starts to get in the way.

Now, my girlfriend has read this thread and wishes to see what I look like with a goatee. I balance this against my dislike of facial hair. So I'm leaving it to you people to decide, because I'm deathly bored at work right now and it gives me something to do.

I spend $150 a month on waxing alone. Facial hair I probably spend anywhere in the neighborhood of $20~70 a month trying to keep my face less fuzzy. >.<

Because let's face it, when your eyebrows grow bushy from clean to outta whack in 7 days and grow the length of 1/5 of an inch in that matter of time, there's nothing more to say than "screw tweezing."

I'd like to try and grow a beard sometime. My father has a nice, full beard so there's a good chance that I can, but I've never tried. I think it would be all-or-nothing for me, though. I've asked friends before and they all say they just can't imagine me with a goatee or anything.

Angel Jun 29, 2006 03:44 PM

It depends... Some men look cool unshaved others just don't. I think it all depends on the "type" of person...

DarkLink2135 Jun 29, 2006 03:56 PM

I can grow an OK one, but it requires too much trimming and WAAAAAYY too much waiting for me to even put in the effort. Plus it itches like hell. I grow probably in 4 months what most people grow in about 3 weeks.

Bernard Black Jun 29, 2006 04:56 PM

Well I could grow a beard if you shot me full of testosterone... Don't think I'd suit it mind >.<

It's really subjective. I know a lot of guys with goatees (it's quite scary really) and it only seems to accentuate their looks. But then I know clean-shaven guys too and they completely suit it. I guess it's all up to face structure and the ability to grow facial hair well.

I've gotten as much Amish/HAYJESUSLOL comments as I have had random people go like "woah, that is a legendary beard".

I have heard many people complain (mostly older guys who confide in me thier inability to grow said beard) that they couldn't stand the itching while growing the beard. I honestly can't remember if that ever happened to me (I have atrocious memory). Someone once told me the big beard works for me cause I'm a big guy. Well, it doesn't really matter to me one way or the other. I just wish I could grow a better stache or something.

I'm new here and probably nobody gives two shits what I say, but I'm gonna say it anyway-- I very strongly approve of your beard, bro!

I've had a goatee going for about a year, myself (I trim it occasionally with about the 4th setting from the shortest on an electric trimmer) but I'm contemplating going full-on lumberjack full beard. This goes with my nice long heavy metal hair... if I had short hair the beard would just be weird as hell on me I think.

I have no frame of reference on whether or not this helps the lady situation (unless my ex gf counts, and I sure hope that isn't the case)... people have been telling me it's probably bogging me down, but you know what? I don't really care.

We have a guy on my floor & college that we nicknamed "Fidel" because of his legendary beard :p.

I have such a pathetic time with facial hair, I can go well over a month without shaving and it's probably equal to a week or so with anyone else (unless you're a girl because that'd be weird and pretty awesome). I basically have stubble for a zillion years. Back in school I had this cool goatee thing going, it took forever. THEN IT HAD TO GO AND IT'S NEVER BEEN BACK TO VISIT. So emotional!

wvlfpvp Jul 3, 2006 10:04 PM

The goatee was hawt.

knkwzrd Jul 3, 2006 10:13 PM

I had a full beard in grade 10. I grew it out for about a year and had a great just-escaped-from-the-asylum look going with an untamed beard and hair that went about halfway down my back. After I cut the hair, the beard needed trimming. I still have the full beard, but it's shaped some now.

Maybe it'll come back one day. ;__;

"WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN I WAS WORRIED SICK" I'll say. Then it'll punch me in the chin.

These days I just keep a tame mustache and trim it once a week. I shave the rest every three days. I shaved last night at midnight and already I have what looks like two days worth and it pisses me off. After about a week the damn thing starts to itch and the it seems to grow coarse on one side and fine on the other so it´ll be awhile before I ever bother growing it out again. I guess I only keep the mustache because I think it goes alright with my hair length.

Kalekkan Jul 5, 2006 01:09 PM

Odd to see this topic pop up. Just recently I've decided to grow a beard, but a well-managed well trimmed one. I need to add a few years to my look for upcoming job interviews months ahead and it seems like one obvious route to take. It does itch like crazy though and can't wait til I can finally get used to it.

DragoonKain Jul 6, 2006 12:44 AM

I grow facial hair rather quickly. If I don't shave for 2 weeks then I'll have a full beard. It only takes 24 hours for me to have a light shadow on my face. My beards grow in really gruffy, and they itch a lot.

I hate having to shave every 5 days.

gidget Jul 6, 2006 04:41 AM

I like looking at a guy with some scruff, but I prefer to touch a smooth face.

nabhan Jul 6, 2006 09:08 AM

Still being in the awkward stages of puberty myself, facial hair is a no-no. Besides, if I were to let my facial hair grow out, all I would up with is a trash-stache.

For this reason, I shave once it becomes noticeable. I doubt I'd look good in a beard/moustache at all, so I'll just ignore that route.

EmmDoubleEw Jul 6, 2006 03:44 PM

TBH, I don't think you can generalize anything women like.

So complicated -_-.
