That sounds great, Klondike. I know a custom format is best; I just can't do it all by myself. I think the first order of business would to make a database schema.

Kaleb.G Jul 24, 2006 05:05 PM

I haven't made any progress here. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing any more. In order to get a successful collection of rip info, a good amount of effort and planning will need to be put into developing a system for managing this information. With so many other projects I'm working on, I simply do not have the time to initiate the creation of such a system.

Sorry to get anyone's hopes up. However, anyone is free to take up the reigns here. Also, this doesn't mean I can't help out in some way.

Nevertheless, I am committed to assist with the GFA project, and being that we plan to have it catalog game rips, it may supercede anything that would come about as the result of this thread.

So does this mean that GFA is in active development again? Because that would be pretty good news.

We're trying to get the ball rolling on GFA again, but a large part of this hinges on bobo. Right now we're trying to make it so that staff can handle the development when bobo is not around.

As I said in your Lemmings PSP gamerip request, I'll have more free time, so I'll be able to continue to script for gamerips' stash website.

First I need update:
- Anonymous submission allowed ?
- Able to register freely ?
- Only me or Kaleb can add new users ?
- Gamerip submission: how to submit. Freestyle or cubed world old-fashioned way ? Or both ??

As far as anonymous submissions go, I say they should be allowed, but must be approved by one of us before appearing to the public.

For Gamerip submission, I think both is a good idea. You or I could probably create an easy way to switch between them in the database if we think about it.

As far as registration goes, I'm not really sure...

eriol33 Jul 25, 2006 01:23 PM

even better if you add the download source of the rip. I meant, we could refer to ftp directories here since they are very useful to keep gamerips. Galbadia Hotel hosts a lot of game rips too, though some are bizarre (like untitled, having no proper credit for the ripper, etc)

cubed Jul 25, 2006 05:38 PM

what we would need (for the download section) is dedicated mirrors FTP. Which would only host gamerips (with a separate login if they are currently offering FTP service for their own stuffs).

I think that could be done. I know there are some poeple who have dedicated rip accounts/servers as is. I might even be able to host some as well, both on kg13.com and my home PC.

cubed Oct 11, 2006 06:45 PM

I would like a "complete list" of game rippers (whether they are still active or not as a ripper).

Sorry if I'm missing anybody in this list ;_; (just tell me with a shovel)

B4-Hunter
Blue_Kirby2
Capcom Lord
crudelis
cubed
D-7
Darko
Dubble
DVDRick
godai
Grawl
Jay
Joe Bloggs
Joe Wiewel
JumboMaverick
k3nn3dy
Kairyu
Kaleb.G
Kuttlas
Killy
Lian_Kazairl
majario
neothe0ne
Parjay
Rimo
Rockman
Rune Walsh
Shadowlink56
Shuriken
SuperSonic
Tappy
Top Dollar

SuperSonic Oct 11, 2006 07:36 PM

How many rips must they have completed in order to be in this list?

neothe0ne Oct 11, 2006 07:38 PM

I'm guessing you'd really only need one to be considered a ripper..

SuperSonic Oct 11, 2006 07:44 PM

I'll add a few then:

Equinox
K3nn3dy
Pyocola
Raynor
Thalin
Unagi

Basil Oct 11, 2006 07:47 PM

bishop743
Citizen Solo aka Kureisama (where the fuck is he these days...)
Juno
Mike
Reichu
starerik

cubed Oct 11, 2006 08:21 PM

@Supersonic: k3nn3dy already in the list ;)

@neothe0ne: ..yeah. If there's only ONE ripper that did a certain rip, why not include them as well to avoid multiple request of that rip ?

@Blue_Kirby2: I knew I was missing them in the list.. ^^.... And I didn't know Joe changed his name again -_- thanks for the info.

EDIT:

Maybe I should keep both Darko and Joe Bloggs name, as some rips were done with the Darko name, some with Joe Bloggs (again to avoid multiple entries of the same rip if someone enters a Joe Bloggs rip with Darko name.. ?)

Basil Oct 11, 2006 11:12 PM

Actually, they aren't the same person. I had my facts wrong. Sorry for the confusion (I always thought they were...)

Kaleb.G Oct 12, 2006 03:00 AM

Darko and Joe Bloggs are indeed the same person. He has used several online names, and those are two of them. He's also Dogs on Acid (DOA). I've been in touch with him for over a year through IM and other mediums. He's a great guy!

Damn right he is. You would think that he hasn't ripped many games, with the different aliases and whatnot, but they add up to a whopping amount. He has contributed alot!

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. Haven't seen him for well over half a year.

Also, I think we can add Teioh to the list, he just ripped his first game last week.

message to neothe0ne: For the freestyle adding method, is any format ok ? Assuming you'd simply manually type the "composers", "gamerip name", "system", "ripped by" in others text fields, all you would need is to know the format for the tracklist and you can configure foobar to display the files as you wish, right?

[Disc-Track] [Track name] [Time]

... would result of...

[3-01] [Main Theme] [3:10]

... is that ok or I totally didn't get the point ?

What I meant is that after one types in [3-01] [track title] [time], the site will automatically format it into a table and put the items in the right places. But I guess if it just shows brackets, it could work.. it would be separated, just not as visually pleasing.

cubed Oct 13, 2006 08:54 PM

... that's exactly what I was talking about, just that I specified that for the moment it would only accept it the tracklisting, all other information will be entered in other text fields.

Code:

                  +-------------------------------------+
Name of the game : |                                    |
                  +-------------------------------------+

            +-------------------------------------+
Composer(s): |                                    |
            +-------------------------------------+

Tracklist:
+----------------------------------+--+
|                                  |/\|
|                                  +--+
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  |  |
|                                  +--+
|                                  |\/|
+----------------------------------+--+

... I'm somewhat proud of myself up there ^^..... just don't burst my bubble please

EDIT

OK... I think I got what you really mean.

A field for each track like my old website, but you just won't need to separate each column (disc, track number, title, time)...

and it would create dynamically the rip has you enter new tracks..

there, let's add track number 17 from disc 3 as I missed to include it from the beginning.... I feel a bit novice here.

cubed Oct 16, 2006 07:13 PM

@neo: ... so would you prefer separate field for each track, or a big field like my beautiful ascii schema ? One or the other doesn't matter. I just need a GO.

cubed Nov 30, 2006 12:00 AM

*bump*

yeah I'm ashamed to use a BUMP, but it's for a great cause !

I kinda NEED AN ANSWER HERE.

Kaleb.G Nov 30, 2006 12:24 AM

I, personally, prefer the big box with parsing goodness.

Rimo Nov 30, 2006 12:31 AM

A big field would make data input easier as copy & paste of a complete list would work, wouldn't it? If so, I'd also prefer that.
