Left 4 Dead sales in Russia spur mad rush for adrenaline high, brains.
-After playing some rounds on versus, I've decided that advanced is a lot easier than I thought at first. The dev commentary mentioned that versus mode was made basically to be biased in favor of the zombies, so it takes a really miraculous circumstance, or really inept infected team, to see survivors make it all together. -Shotgun remains my all time favorite, although playing through Death Toll made me appreciate the value of a good long-distance weapon. -somehow, I managed to get Mercy Killer even though I died literally right next to the helicopter. This did not make up for the fact that the game threw a total of three tanks at us in the Death Toll finale. I got stomped on my way to the boat, and it made me sad. |

Yeah, just noticed tonight that the gas cans/propane tanks are pick-up-able. With a little team coordination it is deliciously easy to create GLORIOUS FLAME MOAT.
Also, protip: The pistols, just like the Engie/Scout pistol in TF2, fire just as fast as you can press MOUSE1. Fan the hammer, boys (this doesn't work when you're downed, though). |

Why they don't just pop a Witch in there is beyond me. |
Melee is completely and utterly overpowered, and I love every single second of it.
Seriously, when you can melee a hunter down in versus mode and have the guy that you killed go off on the mic (all talk) it's priceless. I also lived for like 2 minutes after everyone had died on the roof of No Mercy by simply meleeing constantly and reloading everytime I got off a free shot. Unfortunately, I don't think I could ever melee a tank to death or a witch...By god I'll try though if I get desperate. |

Pang became the first human after the Zombie Apocalypse to attempt to fly, with the help of a Tank.
His courageous efforts will not be forgotten. |
I am some kind of goddamn magical tank magnet. I can only assume that Louis smells delicious.
|
Well he's black so he kinda stands out in a world full of white people.

But... but
it's night out |
RED TIE, HELLO

I see now. Louis is L4D's version of the redshirt :(

How's everyone's experiences been playing L4D with random people from the world? I'm generally on pretty late, even for my fellow west coasters, so I'd pretty much just have to play with random people most of the time.

So far, I am loving this game! :) I still haven't beat the campaigns because I've been playing the expert mode only with people online, and we always encountered Tank near the end of the maps. XD
As for the versus mode, I really like the way Infected are played out, as it has many ways to ambush the survivors and with the right cooperation, you can own them with a lot of laugh. I think the communication is the key to the success of the matches, as each side requires a careful coordination of the plans. I usually prefer playing the survivor side because it is much more intense and always love to kill those zombies. :p One problem with the game I am having is, the matchmaking system and the lack of game room with good pings. Sometimes, I encounter a good group of people, but usually I am stuck with people from Asia, which causes really bad lag. :( I can circumvent the problem by using the server window, but it's pain in the butt to do it every time. If anyone needs a co-op buddy, I am usually available in the afternoon on EST. My steam name is kyosuke_nanbu. |
Here's an early beta video of what's expected to be the first major custom map for Left 4 Dead, the mall from Dawn of the Dead.
I regret that I've never seen DotD but this map (in an early version) looks pretty promising. It's still pretty early since the release of L4D, but there is a site up concerning mods for L4D. Based on the relatively small amount of content in L4D I'm excited to see what will be made for it, but also concerned that nothing breaks the balanced, err, slightly uneven, gameplay. Any new boss or mini-boss zombies should definitely not throw that balance any further towards the zombies. As far as maps or campaigns go, not being a zombie-movie aficionado makes it hard for me to come up with any suggestions or ideas, outside of Shawn of the Dead. That would probably require a mod to inject a lot more funny into the game. |

As far as expert goes, it's intense, and everyone plays extremely seriously on that difficulty, but with everyone being so new to the game, they still don't understand the concept of 'don't shoot a zombie if it's right next to a teammate, let them take care of themselves'. Over half the incaps and deaths on expert are due to friendly fire. So if there are a huge mob of zombies on a player, don't shoot blindly into the crowd...run up, melee, shoot, melee, shoot and repeat until dead. Your bullets will kill faster than those zombies can. |

i was able to get some playtime from the demo a while ago and I fucking loved it. Might get the game when I know I can make some time to play it. I don't have a 360 though so I'll just get the pc version since my pc runs it perfect anyway.
And since we're sharing videos. I fucking love this one. Gametrailers.com - LEFT 4 DEAD PLAN GONE WRONG by Zerith65 |

Or there could be one level that finishes with a surprise-- like the whole time the survivors are trying to get to a military base for safety, but just as they try to close the last safehouse door, they find out the place is overrun. Or maybe just a panic event in a church, where you have to go up to the bell tower and ring the bells to let people know you're there, but of course it brings 8 million zombies down on your head. The noise of the bells drowns out audio cues for boss infected, and hilarity ensues. |
After like 2 hours of trying to beat the No Mercy Finale on expert last night, we finally gave up. We should have had it but we always end up losing 2 or so people to tank...they just take crazy long to drop. Closest we got was losing everyone by myself to the second to the tank. I got up the ramp to get to the chopper only to be thrown up on by a boomer. The horde wasted no time in getting to me, pushing me off the helipad before I could jump in the heli and I died. So close.
