I use a recording of an actual telephone, the kind that sits on an end table with the cord and receiver and plugs into the wall. The kind that used to be big, black and clunky, the type that could be used as a murder weapon if you wished.
Why? Because a fucking telephone should SOUND like a telephone. Nothing is more aggravating than hearing some shitty recording of "Lady Marmalade" come out of nowhere as everyone glances around, pretending they don't own a cellphone with "Lady Marmalade" set to it. Whereas with my phone, when it rings, it sounds like actual ringing. I can say to people "Hold on! I have an incoming telephone call. I can tell because it sounds like an incoming telephone call and not a low-bitrate recording of Kanye West being broadcast through an elephant's ass." |
You have a point, Crash. After all, you never hear of someone broadcasting an MP3 throughout their house whenever someone rings their doorbell.
|
Mine's is "Feel Good, Inc" by the Gorillaz and Pink Panther. I put it on all incoming calls that aren't in my phonebook. For family and friends, I use the generic rings that came with the phone.

i changed mine depending on who calls... theyre usually game ringstones... FFVII, mario (nes/snes), oh mostly ninja gaiden... -.^'
|
Mine's the loading sound from an old Spectrum 16k tape.
Old-school nerd is the new cool don't you know. |
A self-arranged rendition of the Babylon 5 Season 5 theme.
|
I'm using:
Blythe (from DjMax) for all my friends and Dream Walk (by Keiko Matsui) for all my family and business calls. |
Mine is Disturbed- Liberate
I had bloodhound gang- Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo for a while. |
Minuet in G is the only tone I use since I don't like the sound of the regular ringtones. Though I'd much prefer that my phone would just vibrate, but that won't work unless I turn the ring volume all the way up.
|
Mine is the FFIX Airship theme, or the Windmill song from Ocarina of Time depending on who calls. Most of the time it's on vibrate though, because people always seem to call when I'm in the middle of a class >_>
|
I have Ridge Racer 5's "RareHero2000" that I got the other day. It's now the new "unfamiliar calls" ringtone.

A 30-second clip from Scarface.
SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!! It's unique, and out of the ordinary. |
Some retarded T-Mobile shit. "And Then..." or something.
I really need a better phone than this Sidekick II bull. |
Final Boss from Sonic 3 and Knuckles (not Doomsday Zone).
Why? Beats the hell out of the space tune that came with my phone. |
I put some classical on mine. I think it makes it classy, I hope. Cropping a .mp3 into a ten second classical ringtone masterpiece. Yes.
|
"Hello, are we going to battle?"
My ringtone: |
Ringtone: Craig Safan's "Big Victory March" from The Last Starfighter
Text Message: Robert Preston saying "Greetings, Starfighter! You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada." Voicemail: Opening two notes to Elliot Goldenthal's "Zeus Canon" |
Zombie Autopilot by Unearth.
Makes a great ringtone. |
My main ringtone is "Look What You've Done" by Jet. When my husband calls, it's "Sugar, We're Going Down" by Fall Out Boy. =)
|
I just switched to that codec signal from the Metal Gear Solid games. Awesome :)
(finally got this phone which supports mp3 as a ringtone. BYE MIDIS!) |
I change mine now and then. The two I liked best were Yoko Kanno's Inner Universe, the bit that goes "I am calling, calling, in the depth of longing!" (not only my fav song, but totally appropriate!) and the victory jingle from FFVII which I made immediately after watching FFVII Advent Children :)
One I heard on someone's phone which raised a smile, was the ring tone that all the phones in CTU have in 24 (toot, toot, toooduut!). I was in the computer lab at the time, so with all the computers around and the tone which was so carved into me from watching the series, for a brief moment there I thought I was in CTU! :-S |
At the moment, it's the G1 Transformers theme ^o^ (of course, since my phone doesn't have polyphonics, it's a rendition that I had to enter from scratch :p ... I need a new phone :p)
|
I have different ones for my friends, but my main one is "Cold" by Crossfade.
