I'm soooo getting a Freeloader! I just found out Naruto Shippuden EX2 works! I don't want to get the US version 'cause of the English voices and 'cause they took out lots of characters :P

Time to get a Freeloader in April! sweet :3

Krelian Mar 12, 2008 07:25 AM

So it's confirmed that US Brawl + Freeloader + PAL Wii = joy.

Now I just need to wait to get online somewhere that doesn't block game-related sites so I can order the necessary materials. EVIL GAMES, GAMES ARE EVIL, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT THEM

Infernal Monkey Mar 13, 2008 09:37 PM

At work the only game related site they had blocked was GameFAQS, I lol'd (IN MY HEAD, it was like an inside sneeze)

My copy of Braughlw should be here early next week. As for the Freeloader, which I ordered elsewhere.. *Shrugs shoulders* I hope the instruction manual is entertaining!

aesop Mar 14, 2008 08:52 AM

Err, the Freeloader doesn't have a manual so much as a piece of card. I'll scan it for you shortly. Brace yourself.

Unless you meant the Brawl manual?

So I heard Nintendo already released an update that stops Freeloader from working. They could have put the effort into, oh I dunno, maybe releasing Brawl here a bit earlier or whatever, just a thought :(

Or they could quickly disable the freeloader, and force all you Euros to buy the PAL copy of the game when it comes out. Actually nailing a bunch of you twice because you bought the US copy when freeloader first came out. Just a thought.

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 23, 2008 03:57 PM

I haven't imported a US Brawl because this whole thing about bypassing updates reeked of "it's never going to actually work". It's just that the delays in Europe are getting quite ridiculous and you'd think they'd stopped doing this, oh, about ten years ago. If someone wants a PAL game in German or French, they can wait for a fucking extra six months for all I care, I'd be perfectly happy with an english-only release.

I was mostly just taking the piss to bother you, mate. But yeah, I agree... PAL releases are stupid slow. But you got Terranigma, and we didn't, so, you know. We're even.

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 23, 2008 04:16 PM

So you were, in effect, trolling me. Tisk.

No one actually got Terranigma since they released like three copies of it here. But we (at least I) did get Forbidden Siren 2 and Shinobido, so that was nice.

No. Hard Pass. Mar 23, 2008 04:19 PM

You had -access- to Terranigma. One of the single greatest games ever released. I'm STILL mad about no NTSC release, and this is how many years later?

Also, when do I do anything outside of trolling you?

map car man words telling me to do things Mar 23, 2008 04:28 PM

Yeah, I constantly wonder why I keep you around.

I didn't have access to the game. It wasn't sold at a single store around where I lived. Not that it would have occurred to me to buy it at the time anyway. Now Suikoden II and Panzer Dragoon Saga, there's games I had access to, and opted not to buy out of foolishness. Slightly regretted that, later on.

You keep me around for my rugged good looks and for being a stunning conversationalist.

Suikoden II you can still track down for only mildly ridiculous sums of money, but PDS is fucking LAUGHABLE to buy. Man, they absolutely throttle you for that one.

Soluzar Mar 23, 2008 05:05 PM

Even if you purchased a PAL copy of Suikoden II, you would still be unable to buy a compatible copy of Suikoden III, since it was never released over here. When I get to that point I'm interested in transferring my save data for whatever bonus fun is on offer, which is why I'm sticking to the imported NTSC-U/C release of Suikoden I and II.

You can't transfer PAL saves to NTSC sequels? I'd never considered that as a problem. That's decidedly unfortunate.

I don't have certain knowledge that you can't. However, the save files are identified by the Sony product code. Licensed third-party titles released in America have product codes in the form of SLUS_xx.xxx whereas European titles have codes in the form of SLES_xx.xxx instead. Call it an educated guess that it will only be looking for a specific product code.

I don't know for sure that it won't accept a PAL save, but since I can play American PS1 games, it seems like I might as well play safe. If it will only accept the product code from the American game, I'm covered.

From Suikoden IV onwards I'll go back to the PAL releases because I was able to pick them up locally.

Confirmed.

Sounds like it can be possible... perhaps you need to find a way to edit the save on your memory card, something like that. I think I'm better off just playing these games using my Breaker Pro bootdisc. I know loading your old save data isn't that important, but since there's no disadvantage to me by playing the American versions, I may as well.

They did? Was it the most recent update because I downloaded it and the Freeloader still works fine.

Buizel Mar 23, 2008 10:22 PM

IOS37 - WiiBrew - This should have all the info about the latest update.

Infernal Monkey Jun 17, 2008 01:11 AM

R.I.P HALF PRICE GAMES

Freeloader's dead. Latest (PAL) firmware update renders it useless. Nintendo twists the knife once it's in, this update will also automatically DELETE any non-PAL save files from the system. Twilight Princess Hack is gone, too.

Thanks Nintendo, you cunts. =D Man I'm going to shake my fist when I'm eventually forced to update and lose my US Brawl save game. AGAIN.

I'm surprised it took them this long to be honest.

Buizel Jun 17, 2008 04:52 AM

Er, from what I read it DOESN'T delete foreign savegame... just the Twilight Princess hack.

And yes Freeloader doesn't work anymore because Datel is stupid enough to use the "Trucha Signer" bug that Nintendo could patch it with firmware update.

So hopefully an alternative way will come around or mod your Wii.

Infernal Monkey Jun 17, 2008 05:07 AM

Yeah I've been reading mixxxeedd internets about the whole save game thing. Some people are losing them, others aren't.

I'm not going to see what happens any time soon. :]

Advice to Freeloader users!

Install the Homebrew Channel before upgrading and use the regionfree loader app. Apparently though the Zelda exploit is patched over, it doesn't affect anything you've already installed.

Of course I haven't any practical experience with this as my Wii's been in a box somewhere in the Southwest for a few months, so what do I know.

NovaX Jun 17, 2008 05:53 AM

My Freeloader (or my Brawl or my Wii) stopped working anyway. Although it's not like I've thought about playing Brawl at all after Mario Kart.

Good advice... however, the regionfree loader application has very very very limited success, as the handful of games that work with it... hmm.

There's a group already trying find a workaround.

Just don't download the update for now, I guess.

kensuke Jun 22, 2008 07:58 AM

Well, the twilight hack has been updated and works with 3.3 now. I've been told GeckOS works with SSBB, so everyone's happy! Although I thought that the update also deleted wrong region saves, does anyone know for sure?

chaofan Jun 23, 2008 03:42 AM

But the newly hacked 3.3 still blocks out Freeloader, does it not?

In any case, not updating might just be the best solution. Even Regionfree is pretty limited...
