First of all, there is NO WAY you can follow your child around 24 hours a day and monitor everything they see, hear and read. It's just not possible. Period. Especially once they get older than, say, 12 and start doing things without constant parental supervision.
Secondly, unless some of you completely skipped over a very important developmental phase, you need to realize that there comes a time when almost all children rebel against authority. A lot of kids will do and believe the extreme opposite from whatever their parents have tried to teach them, because suddenly parents are idiots and everything they say must be challenged. Telling your daughter she's beautiful and that she doesn't have to be anorexic to be beautiful only works for a certain amount of time. After kids hit a certain age, they're going to be much more heavily influenced by their friends and the media than they are by anything their parents say. It's a sad day when that happens, so you really have to take advantage of every opportunity when they're small, because once they hit that magic 14, you're the village idiot in their minds. Also, this misconception about the way a woman's body is "supposed" to look is everywhere. You turn on the TV and everyone you see is a size 2. You stand in line at the grocery store and there on the covers of all the magazines are women with perfect faces and bodies. It's everywhere. Your kids are going to see it and be affected by it, unless you lock them up in the cellar. And that's a fact. Our society's unrealistic expectations with regard to women's bodies and shitty parenting are two entirely different subjects. |
So why doesn't everyone bow to the wills of society, Alice? What part of one's development protects from that?
|
And here I thought that cocaine and/or heroin addiction was primarily responsible for that chick's staggering weight loss!
I saw someone mention Rachel Leigh Cook. If she played Wonder Woman, I would not hesitate to go see it. Because Rachel Leigh Cook is extremely hot. Like it would even matter if she fit the role perfectly or if the movie stayed relatively true to the source materials. |
I think that if you went to a high school and interviewed all the girls, 97% of them would say that they view themselves as overweight and/or ugly.
Fortunately, many women (and maybe men - I don't really know since I'm not one) begin to accept their bodies and generally like themselves more as they mature. But almost all teenage girls carry in their hearts a self-loathing that can only come from the unattainable expectations set for them by the media. |

If you had to blame someone, blame the people that photoshop out Lohan's freckles or backhair or frownlines or slightly-smaller-tits. Be realistic instead of simply acting like Donald Sutherland in Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and pointing and screaming at something you don't like. Quote:
Or is that a misconception about men? Quote:

I invite anyone who is arguing with me to raise a girl, then come back and tell me how much good their talks and constant encouragement did once their daughter hit 14.
And I never said you should stop trying. No matter what obstacles you face as a parent, it's your job in life to never stop encouraging them and trying to counteract the damage done to them by the media. But expecting any other outcome just isn't realistic. These are impressionable children, not mature adults. You can call these girls "stupid", but it's kinder and more accurate to call them "immature." The best you can do is try to comfort yourself in the knowledge that you tried your best to instill values and self-esteem in your child, and that as she grows and matures, the poison will work itself out of her system. |
So like, I'm gone for 4 hours and this thread turns from good ol' celebrity bashing to "How To Raise a Teenager Without Turning Them Emo. DON'T ARGUE WITH ME YOU PRETZ CUNT! I AM LEHAH"?
Only on Gamingforce. :/ |

People who whine and bitch that its so hard raising kids need to remember that a lot of people raise kids in worse enviroments than you. Homeless kids, kids born in the middle of civil wars, kids born into serious third world poverty. "Oh no, my girl is vomiting every night" is pretty lowball shit against running from your life from rape gangs and not getting blown the fuck up. Raising children does not make you special. People did it before you and people will do it after you. Quote:

In any case, it will be interesting to see how this movie comes out. Hopefully, they won't ruin the idea of Wonder Woman with too much Hollywood. |
I hold to parenting. You don't read back into the Shakespearean era about daughters going off and being the town tarts just to get a rise out of their parents. This rebellion phase is often just poorly handled parenting and is a strictly modern issue >_> I mean hell. I'm the third (and last) son in my family. Not a one of us ever exactly "rebelled" against our parents. Too busy working and getting money stowed up for college and things. Or helping out our parents.
One child of the three of us turning out okay? Fluke maybe. But all three? C'mon. There are other folks I went to high school with that had big families and multiple children. They, too, never did the whole "ZOMG I HATE U" thing. Poor parenting is a huge problem. Bear in mind that the common conception in this day and age is to drop your kid off at a nursery and let them stare at a TV all day. That hammers them with all kinds'a problems, thanks to how a kiddo's brain can be like a sponge. The whole rebellion phase is a sign of being spoiled. The child isn't getting things the way they want, they find out it won't happen, and often set off to piss off their parents as a result. Or some cockamamy thing like that. Catherine Zeta Jones for Wonder Woman <3 She was gorgeous in Ocean's Twelve. |
Oh, god. This is almost as terrifying as Paris Hilton wanting to be Mother Teresa.

Jennifer Connelly as Wonder Woman.
Confirmed. |

Because I would have PAID to see Mother Theresa sucking off Rick Solomon. OK... Maybe I wouldn't. But the sheer thought is pretty fucking amusing. |
Lindsey Lohan lived in my town. Her brother (I think it might be her cousin) is in my gym class. But she's a bitch and would disgrace the name of wonder woman.

i used to like lynsay lohan, specially in mean girls, she used to be so, so , so hot, she was a total knock out, red head and big jugs, (remember when she is that sexy christmas suit singing jingle bell rock) i dont why the hell she had to destroy that cute and sexy image that she had, now as blonde is like any other girl, like shakira, loose their distintion when change the color of the hair(shakira used to have more meat on her, and really nice ass and tights)

So, is she a bitch because she wouldn't fuck you when you asked her cousin if she would? Just curious. I really only liked Lohan from a "Hey, she's good to look at, and if she jumps, even better" perspective, but that perspective was lost a year ago, and slowly, slowly is coming back. Other than that, let her be wonder woman...it's not like there are much of any good movies out nowadays. |
I like Lindsay Lohan , always had, always will.
She is a little mislead on things, but overall she is cool. Would i watch her as wonder woman, i guess so. I gather they are using her for the young version, because she wouldnt work as a older woman. Double Post: Quote:
