It just hit me how bloody much I hate the american names in Dragonball. Ugh.

As for that trailer... I'm going to see it, because I think it looks cheesy. Those effects? What is this, Hallmark?

Mirei Dec 12, 2008 06:55 PM

I haven't seen Dragon Ball Z, in years, and don't wish to see it. I think it has become over rated.

The movie for DBZ looks horrible. It makes the anime look bad.

Diversion Dec 13, 2008 03:17 AM

I never remember any point in DB or DBZ where Goku ever had the attitude "I'm not ready for this". He was always doing shit that made Roshi surprised. His character is always looking for the next challenge no matter how hard. And way to change the origin of the Dragon Balls, 7 mystics? WTF.

Vemp Dec 13, 2008 11:47 PM

I'm gonna watch this movie and wait for the scene were some character will shout "OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAAAND!!" And then I'll laugh and run around the cinema and laugh and point at nerds and laugh and god this movie will suck.

But I do like the cheesy trailer for it's cheesy action scenes and lulz.

There is a hint of hope after all.

Jessykins Dec 14, 2008 12:19 AM

I bet this will be awesome to see high. Not like Speed Racer awesome, but awesome enough.

Slash Dec 14, 2008 01:41 AM

I have this sick feeling in my stomach that this movie will end on one Kamehameha and that will be it.

If it doesn't end that way, I will be surprised.

The guys at Wired just posted some horrifying pictures of the tie-in game for this.

Anyone else getting flashbacks of Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game?

I was actually a little surprised when I realized that this is actually happening, for real.

Although personally I think it will be bad, even cringe worthy bad, but it can't be all that bad. >.>

I mean, I seen both Hong Kong Version and Taiwanese version of "Live action dragonball", those were bad, but this? Meh.

And as a kid I thought those were freaking awesome. I am sure some people (kids, maybe) might be just as entertained.

Slash Jan 21, 2009 01:16 AM

And yet not one single picture of Piccolo...

and needs more Akuma.

More like if Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game and DBZ Budokai had a baby together, will the fanboys who buy these games and movies on DVD ever get some standards? :(

The way I see this movie is: This movie is like a big piece of chocolate cake for a person who is on a diet. It looks good from a distance and you treat it as a guilty pleasure. Deep down you know its bad for you and your going to feel guilty for even looking at it. Nothing good is going to come out of it.

Will I see it; more than likely.
Will I enjoy it; highly doubtful

To even strengthen the argument that this movie will probably suck, there have been a whole bunch of scenes released from the movie. I guess they need anything to try to build any kind of hype for this movie.

Wow. Really?

I wouldn't even say it looked good from a distance.

I compare it to a poorly baked chocolate cake using a good recipe.

It looks like a great idea when its on paper. But then you eventually put everything together. After you bake it it winds up looking like shit.

UltimaIchijouji Mar 12, 2009 01:30 AM

Where is Krillin. There can't be a Dragon Ball movie without Krillin. Are they saving him as a secret or something?

Heisho-Ryuu Mar 12, 2009 01:41 AM

It's a stupid question by this far but...

It's Akira Toriyama aware of this horrible piece of (insert your worst curse) ?

I mean, OK, you have a franchise make as much money and business and turn it famous...BUT THIS??!!

IMO there's a difference between a parody and an insult, and this is obviously an insult. I'm not that diehard fan but Hollywood please...respect what might be sacred to some for once.

I'm over 9,000% sure that in my country (where DB, DBZ and DBGT was an astounding success) and maybe the rest of the globe that this is going to be a Legendary Epical Fail and I didn't use a scouter for this calculation...

All thumbs down for this, not even worth a laugh.

Your percentage...Its...Its....

ITS OVER NINE THOUSSSAAANNNNDDDDDDDDDD!

But I agree that this movie is a complete insult. I'm wondering if this movie is even YARRRR-able. Well...worth it I mean.

I mean someone mentioned it already, but In the trailers...it looks as though goku is a total puss in that he says "I don't think I'm ready"

If I remember right...didn't Goku ALWAYS think he was ready? Even when he was laid out in the hospital.

FatsDomino Mar 12, 2009 10:24 AM

Hmmm from those clips it looks like an interesting take on Dragonball. It doesn't look completely horrible. Put aside obvious biases and it could be fairly enjoyable.

Well from this take, this is supposed to be Dragon Ball, and not Dragon Ball Z.

But then again, I'm not sure they could cast an 8 year old and have him pull off everything the younger goku could.

I used to watch Dragonball and DBZ back in the days of me being a teen, and while I enjoyed the show for what it was (nothing but fighting and grunts), I don't think this movie will shine on the series in a negative way.

I mean, if you think DBZ was a massive spectacle of animation and storytelling, you need to get your head checked.

My only qualm (if you can even call it that) is that Roshi won't be perverted in anyway in this movie, and is Mr. Super Serious...but I could be pleasantly surprised...Chow Yun Fat hasn't failed me yet.

Gechmir Mar 12, 2009 06:59 PM

Is Jason Statham playing Krillen :0

Grail Mar 12, 2009 07:06 PM

Well, if they can make people look like hobbits, anything is possible.

Have you seen the second clip posted above labeled "goku vs roshi".
Roshi might the only character thats portrayed closest to the anime. Shows perverted-ness, thinks highly of himself, acts like an energetic old man.

Grail Mar 12, 2009 07:23 PM

Well, there we go. Chow Yun Fat doesn't fail me >.>.

I'll more than likely enjoy this movie due to the fact they did at least try to capture the spirit of the show, instead of making it a carbon copy. It's just going to be a light hearted martial arts movie, that's it.

Other than Chow Yun Fat, the woman who plays Bulma seems to portray her pretty well, although I can see at times she's -way- too serious about it.

Bradylama Mar 13, 2009 12:34 PM

This movie is gonna rule and there's nothing you crybaby nerds can do about it

The unmovable stubborn Mar 13, 2009 02:37 PM

Dunno man it might ruin the quality of a highly prestigious comic book

Bradylama Mar 13, 2009 02:57 PM

oh no they might take out all the parts where Master Roshi molests a teenager
