A lot of rpgs tend to follow the same formula over and over and ooovverrr again. Back in the snes/psx era it was pretty new for the most part so it didn't feel like rinse, wash, repeat. I don't think zomg everything must be totally original!11!1 but I do feel like a lot of rpgs these days just aren't even trying anymore.
I love rpgs and I'll play just about any of them, but most are just the same cookie cutter formula and I wish the people who make them would branch out. Not even new things, but the same ol' stuff in a different way. It doesn't have to be anything major, just the little things would be nice. I don't really think all of the classic rpgs have gotten better with age... maybe it just seems that way since most rpgs aren't on par with them now a days. They are also a bit nostalgic for a lot of us, which creates lots of bias. =P |
