Couldn't be because I like the Sens and chose the name based on something completely unrelated, could it? Not my fault that this season they chose my name for their slogan. I've had this name for years.

Sens ftw. Craptacular goals from Buffalo but what are you gonna do? As much as I'm enjoying winning all the time, I'm seriously hating all the media hype around it. People are talking about playoff spots and Finals match-ups and it's only bloody November. Look at the standings last season, Ottawa was doing terribly and we were the Eastern conference Champs.

Couldn't make it onto irc though ;_; Mom wanted to watch TV together.

Boston wins the Cup, based on the Awww-c'mon-they're-trying-their-best rule.

Borg1982 Nov 16, 2007 04:05 AM

Ottawa will run out of gas for playoffs. You have a huge target on your jersey and since #1 seeds or pres. trophy winners never win championships, its time to say goodbye. #2 seems to be the magic number for winning it all.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 16, 2007 04:08 AM

Now, if only everyone stuck to Borg's theories of the numbers decide what happens, we wouldn't even HAVE to play the season! Saves time for everybody!

Fire On Ice Nov 16, 2007 04:12 AM

Way to completely miss my point, Borg. I was just talking about why the playoffs are not something to concern ourselves with yet. I'm gonna pick a team at total random and stick to my guns about how they'll win the cup until it becomes relevant. Toronto :tpg: Ok that doesn't count. Dallas. Dallas will win. Just go with me on this one, I got a good feeling about them Stars, they've got it figured out.

Although I'm slightly inclined to agree with Deni here. Poor, poor Boston.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 16, 2007 04:14 AM

Goddamn rights. Look at us. With our 40 year old awesome goalie. We're like the plucky underdog with the floppy ears and the big huge brown eyes. Sure, we might not be a purebred greyhound or anything, but damnit, people like us. And we're loyal. And hey, Lucic.

Fire On Ice Nov 16, 2007 04:18 AM

Maybe we should just let Boston hold the cup for us for a while. I'm sure that'll remind them of the glory days and give them at least one season of for-old-times-sake energy, right?

Well that or drugs.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 16, 2007 04:22 AM

The Dropkick Murphys are our anti-drug.

Also, the only thing that will bring back Boston's glory is the complete overhaul of the front office, maybe a brand spanking new owner. At least we have a good coach.

Fire On Ice Nov 16, 2007 04:26 AM

That's right, staying positive'll do the trick. That's how you'll bring it home again. BELIEVE.

Just don't fuck with the uniforms, there's enough ugly going around this season we don't need to lose the Bruins too.

No. Hard Pass. Nov 16, 2007 04:31 AM

God no. That jersey will never change. Black and Gold never quits. (Not entirely true... but still, the jerseys are pretty.)

Fire On Ice Nov 18, 2007 12:32 AM

3-0 loss to Toronto.

Ow, my pride :(

FreeHooker Dec 31, 2007 08:58 PM

Hi folks...

It's been a while...

Sorry I ditched for the remainder of the playoffs, I would have liked to continue our contest. Who ended up winning, anyways?

Can we get the ol' NHL thread going again? You know, since FH has nowhere else to post...

Little Brenty Brent Brent Jan 1, 2008 03:56 AM

I won, and I think it was by a single point. =D

Crash "Long-Winded Wrong Answer" Landon Jan 1, 2008 04:17 AM

I thought gyorgy cziffra won by a point or two.

Dopefish Jan 1, 2008 09:39 AM

All I know is I barely lost. :(

Wojo Jan 1, 2008 12:02 PM

Winter classic today folks. I really like the retro look of both teams I really can't wait to watch this game today.

Lets go Pens!

Little Shithead Jan 1, 2008 12:45 PM

I'm still pissed at my friend who managed to get tickets to the Winter Classic, yet I absolutely love how he basically swiped them from Pittsburgh fans.

Finally something worth watching at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Dopefish Jan 1, 2008 01:48 PM

Anyone know of an online feed for the game?

No. Hard Pass. Jan 1, 2008 01:52 PM

The Pens blue jerseys are ugly. Not Canucks ugly, but ugly. And no, Dope, I don't. I know it's an NBC feed, so you might try nbc.com?

Also, this game is going to take forever because of the ice maintenance.

FreeHooker Jan 1, 2008 02:24 PM

You know, the Canucks jerseys aren't as bad as they first appear. After a few games, I was able to swallow them...and after a few more, I actually started liking them. They sure do look purdy in game action.

And plus, I guess it doesn't matter if we keep winning... :D

I just slept through the first period of the winter classic, I'm gonna watch the last two. I don't really see how this is much more attractive than any other NHL game, though...

The outdoor thing has been done before, although it is pretty cool to watch...

Maybe that's just coming from a Canadian? I'm more watching for m'boys Vanek and Malkin...

Man, I wish I knew an online video feed of the game. I'd try and check the SomethingAwful thread on it (like I did for the Giants-Pats NFL game,) but they disabled guest threadviewing privileges (this is what I get for waiting too fucking long to buy an account.) I would encourage anyone who does happen to have an SA account to take a look in the NHL Gameday thread for today.

So far, I've turned up nothing. I'll keep on trying, though.

2:50 ish update: LOL GOALTENDER ICING

4:10 ish update: OVERTIME is this game epic or what. Sabres have a powerplay to start, so let's see if that hurts the Pens or not.

4:27 ish update: Now it's into a shootout.

4:35 ish update: goes 2-1 to Pittsburgh in shootout.

Great game, seriously. Aside from the end result of the game, I think it went the way it should have, taking all available time in a hockey game.

Dopefish Jan 1, 2008 04:51 PM

The game was great, the length was not. It went over 3 hours. What is this, a baseball game?

I loved the Penguins blues. Totally need more of that action.

Dopefish Jan 5, 2008 10:45 PM

Man, the Penguins are playing out of their minds right now. Ty :gonk:lin can't lose for once in his life.

Borg1982 Jan 6, 2008 06:09 AM

That would be pretty insane if this one issue of an NHL magazine of some sort that I saw last summer that said "2008 FINALS PREDICTION: Detroit Versus Pittsburgh" ended up coming true!

At this point the Pens are playing great.

The Sens have very strange weaknesses (giving up 8 goals to the crappy caps and then 6 more the next day!!!!), the Canes have more goals against than for, and the Devils always choke.

That would be cool if the Pens went to the finals. And to think I laughed at that summer issue of the hockey magazine. Now it seems feasible!

Fire On Ice Jan 6, 2008 12:51 PM

Wow, I thought this was abandoned for sure. Figured you guys were tired of Sens Update 07.

I much preferred the Montreal-Edmonton Game a while ago. That, to me at least, was actually less about getting media attention then about watching the old guys play again only to be followed up by the current generation of players. The Pittsburgh game just seemed like more "hey other NHL franchises, we've got fucking Crosby. IN UR FAYZ" again and I am just not a fan of that guy in any way.

lol@:gonk:lin
